As a Cubs fan, I would hate to see Campana go.. but playing elsewhere would get him more playing time and that’s what he needs to improve on batting. He’s a good bunter. He’s so fast, it’s exciting to watch. Everytime he gets on base, he makes things happen. Just Campana being on base and such as threat to steal throws the pitcher and the other team’s defense off their game. He may not hit for power, but he has been known to hit inside-the-park home runs and where other guys gets doubles, he gets triples. The Cubs have plenty of options in the outfield; I’m sure they would entertain a legitimate offer, especially if the trade involved a pitcher..

The Cubs actually are pretty deep with RHP in their system but lack LHP depth and catching prospects are virtually non-existent in their system. They could benefit from a Plawecki type if some sort of deal could be worked out to nab one of their outfield prospects. I’m not so sure Campana helps the Mets though.

I would do it in a heart beat. . .I don’t care if he ever hits a home run so long as he averages .290 or better, draws a fair amount of walks and steals 30 bases or more. .

Campana would be the ultimate pinch runner. Possessed of blazing speed–probably one of the very fastest men in MLB–and smart base running skills. He’s not everyday material.

He’d probably make a great bunter in PH situations, too. If I coached him, it would be all bunting all the time.

If Sandy is unable to bring in Bourn which seems unlikely given Boras’ demands for at least a pillow contract and the Mets most likely losing their 1st round draft pick. I certainly wouldn’t mind a platoon of this guy and Cowgill in CF. In fact, I think it’s a good idea. I think Sandy and Depo are still working the phones to try and trade for a cheaper and don’t lose 1st round pick OF option. And Sandy does have a couple of upper level SP prospects – Mejia and Gorski he can try to trade.

He’s got some pretty impressive on base numbers in the minors, the kid can take a walk — which is huge considering his freakish speed. I’d try and rotate him into my fantasy team every time he was in the lineup because it seemed for a while like whenever he’d play he’d get a couple of steals. The Cub’s signed this Cuban kid Soler for RF so they’re stacked in the OF, Campana is a spare part. Yes, no power, bit he’s a bit more than a slap hitter, he can drive the ball just doesn’t get a lot of elevation.

it is good to have some balance. And not neccessarily that he needs to hit a lot of HRs, but at least have gap (2B/3B) power, especially to take advantage of citifield.

an extreme case like Castillo at the end, where they can barely get the ball past the infield, is hard to carry.

and if the guy is all glove no bat, we can use Dekker for that. at least when he makes contact, he can hit the ball pretty far!

Always the focus on power. Who cares if this guy can hit for power if he is a productive CF? Your best leadoff hitters often do not hit a lot of HRs (Henderson aside).

Personally, with the names mentioned, I see no reason why this trade would not happen on the Mets end. I can agree the Cubs might not want to make it because of the depth issue. But a speedy CF who gets on and can steal bases at the top of the order is just what the Mets need. I do not know if this guy is the answer but he is certainly an interesting option.

I know we already traded with them (Toronto) but E. Bonafacio is who I would go after. He can play CF and steal bases. He is a utility player there.
