Mets Re-Sign Pedro Feliciano To Minors Deal
The New York Mets announced this morning that they have signed former Met Pedro Feliciano to a minor league contract with an invitation to Spring Training. Here on MMO last week, we brought up the idea of the Mets bringing back Feliciano.
The 36-year old Feliciano led the majors in games pitched from 2008-2010 making 266 appearances all as a Met. He has held lefties to a career .214 mark, leading the Yankees to sign him following the 2010 season to a two-year $8 million deal. Feliciano, riddled with injuries, failed to throw a single pitch for the cross-town rival Yankees over the span of that contract.
After pitching to the tune of a 1.23 ERA in seven relief games in the Puerto Rican Winter League this season, Sandy Alderson and the front office apparently have seen enough to believe that he is healthy and could make an impact on the 2013 bullpen.

Pedro Dos Parte Deux?
part 3 technically…
Welcome home Pedro.
Sigh……………
I can see Sandy Alderson donning his Marine gear and flying in on a Black Hawk chopper on the deck of the USS Citi Field under a banner that reads “Mission Accomplished”.
At some point, we just need to conceide victory to the moneyballers and the sabergooners and wait till the era of this man is over with… It makes no sense in getting all worked up over the same sh**, because, as you’ve seen and been a victim of, we’ll be the ones who get ban because Joe D always needs to make an example out of us, i mean, how on earth you can tell me that losing bay and rid yourself of torres while not brining noone here is an improvement? comments like that is what makes us the real fans of the team lose it, which then prompt the fights and arguments, which of course we will lose because we cannot go against an immortal here, we’ll always lose that battle

I’ve been following MMO for a little over a year and I enjoy it ver much but have never posted before. Alex, you’ve compelled me to do just that. I have to ask you, how old are you? You are either very young, which would explain your obnoxiously stupid and repetitive comment or you’re a very old, miserable and angry, which would explain your obnoxiously stupid and repetitive comments.
We get it, you hate Alderson and anyone who has ever associated with him and have a similar disdain for David Wright (he of the super hot fiancé). Great move on! Go back to rooting for your Yanks, or Phils, or Braves, just please stop polluting this site with your stupidity!!!
Black Hawk Down anyone?
I’m shocked he decided to come back. I hope Warthen wont be stupid enough to tax his arm again if he makes it back to the majors?
If he gets back, it will be as a LOOGY. by definition, those guys pitch a lot (well, frequently but very few batters faced). It is the nature of the role, and if he can’t do it, he won’t be pitching.
Maybe, but I don’t expect a LOOGY to make 92 appearances in a season like Warthen stupidly had him do in the first place.
blame the manager for that. I never recall hearing Warthen had autonomy to make pitching changes!
That was Jerry Man-u-smell that killed Pedro not Warthen. Not only did he overuse him he had him get up in the pen 2 or 3 times on nights he didn’t use him. Not that Collins is any better. He gets his share of bullpen hard-ons too.
Cashman has got to have some pictures. $8 million dollars and not a single appearance and he still has a job.
Why not bring him in. He’s two years removed from shoulder surgery and was on a rehab path with the Yankees before spraining an ankle. Worth a low risk look.
He never threw hard and now he will throw with even less velocity. Bombs away!
never was about the FB. his primary job was to make Howard look foolish on a big breaking slider.
He never needed mid-90′s fastball to be successful. His arm angle, pitch selection location and K’s, made him extremely difficult on lefties. I doubt the Mets would have signed him with spring training invite if his velocity has significantly dropped. If it has, it means they signed him with belief it will increase and that his spring training presence is good for the youngsters to help their development.
That is because he threw the pitch from the first base dugout. Talk about lefties bailing.
Nasty stuff in his day. Hopefully there is some life still left in that arm.
Good signing. Plenty young players will benefit learning from him and if he makes the team, we will have someone who is proven competitor from the left side, and someone besides David Wright who was here in 2006 and 2007 and experienced the disappointment.
He was the best pitcher in the mess the Mets call a BP for 3 of the past 5 years.
A good signing, no risk and, if he is healthy, he can help out the club a great deal. If not, easy to cast him aside.
Keep collecting BP options to fight for jobs in ST. Though i do want to see at least 2 lefites, they better not both be LOOGYs or terry will burn through the pen even faster than he normally does.
one specialist, at the most, with another lefty that can pitch full innings (or more, if the long man)
Edgin showed some ability to pitch to righties and be more than just a lefty specialist.
As for going with a number of lefties, that worked well for the Phillies when they revamped their BP midseason last year.
I was oping that would be the case, the Edgin becomes a “real” RP (whatever you call a non-oogy). If not a set up man, someone that can pitch full innings, whenever they are needed.
This is GREAT NEWS.
If hes healthy again, this will be a great addition, plus rub a lil salt in the Yanks wounds.
Now all we need to do is bring in Pavano and have him win us 15-18 games !!
If Pavano wins 15 games this year, anywhere, it will means that the Mayans were probably right!
funny
Clayton, so you have a direct line to the Mets FO?
I give them a few pointers from time to time.
I also help the Wilpons with business investments on occasion
So you were the guy who suggested they consider investing with a guy they affectionately on the Street called Uncle Bernie. LOL
You know Bernie too? He’s got quite a talent. Turned a nice profit for me, haven’t heard from him in some time though. Hmmm
I hear he changed addresses but the post office isnt forwarding his mail there for some reason. It appears all mail gets redirected to SEC headquarters.
haha – put a bug in their ear that it’s in their best interests to sell the team.
Big deal
ST is going to be quite crowded with all these minor league deals they signed with an invite to ST.
Hey who knows maybe this will be the start of a new trend and Sandy will bring back:
Beltran
Reyes
Pagan
K-Rod
Dickey
and then retire so we can all say none of what we think was the last two years actually happened….It was all just a bad dream!
Bringing back K-Rod will make me puke.
AARP and NOW would be picketing Citi Field.
Yes and then we could win 79 games and you and Joey will be happy.
I was going to argue that they would certainly win more than 79 adding all those guys, until I realized that they already had them all together, and managed to win exactly that. Which I am sure is why you picked that magic number!
Yep we would be happy as they would have won more games than this crap Your hero Sandy has put together….
Now YOU will be happy when we win 69 instead….
And you call yourself a Met Fan.
Oh and stop capitalizing every other word. You look like an idiot. Nobody thinks what you say has any more meaning just because you decide to capitalize a couple words.
Trust me on this one.
Is it next to your picture of Sandy Alderson?
thought he hates warthen
he is 36, and just missed the last 2 years.
I imaging he hates not getting a big paycheck more than Teflon Dan.
and thee can’t possibly be any more “disposable” player in MLB than and old, broken down OOGY!
Yeah but they also can pitch forever. Look at Oliver…still going strong at 40.
I wouldnt count Byrdak out of making a comback.
Depending on how healthy he is, this is the best signing of the off season.
That’s the good news.
The bad news?
This is the best signing of the off season.
I love this move! Pedro starts in AAA and does not get added to the roster until players start going on the DL. Sandy will not want to expose any of the young players to the waver wire. Laffey you have seen your competition.
I am pleased at this signing and hope that Pedro can come back and play a role. . .with him and Edgin sharing the duties the team could be really solid with lefties in the pen. .
The bullpen is still lacking, however and is my biggest concern, more than the outfield.
