Omar Minaya turned a terrible farm system into a solid average farm system during his six years for which he certainly deserves credit as it is something that can´t be done over night. Just like he deserves credit for building the 2006 team that not only won because of his costly high-profile signings but also because of several useful lower scale pieces added like Endy Chavez, Jose Valentin, John Maine, Chad Bradford, Darren Oliver and others.

Unfortunately, the major league magic deserted him eventually and he also did serious damage to the major league payroll and left behind an expensive .500 team with several holes and high longterm obligations. Of course, he could not foresee the Madoff fiasco, so it´s not entirely his fault. Still, he didn´t exactly spend the money he had wisely and bought shortterm success based on future credit card bills - and it turns out that they were too high eventually.

Aww did I hurt your wittle Sandy?

Tell me something (both you and CBuster)

WHAT is the greatest need on this team?
How many have been signed to play in the MLB so far for us?

Do we need IFs?
Then pray tell why are we wasting money on getting them?

I wonder how much money the O's paid for Quintanilla last year? Was it enough to cover his pay from the Mets? Now we sign him to another minor league contract. Now this is a Sandy value move. How much will Sandy sell him for this time?

Hi Andy,

Glad to know there are more original new breeders among us.

My first Met game was an April, 1962 doubleheader at the Polo Grounds and saw two firsts - Al Jackson pitching the first shutout in Mets history as they beat Philly 8-0 and that becoming the first Mets winning streak ever - at two. Didn't last too long as Philly creamed us in the night cap. LOL

Got Breslin's book and a few baseball magazines from the time which helps relive those great times.

Would also recommend another book published last year "Tales From The 1962 New York Mets Dugout; by Janet Paskin. It it full of quotes from so many from that team as they recollect about those moments and it's a fascinating read. . OK, will admit I'm a little biased about the book. The foreword was written by a friend of mine and I was shocked as I got a copy in the mail in which was a handwritten note thanking me for helping him to inspire the foreword ("my friend Joe" if anyone does have the book). :)

Hi Taskmaster,

Don't forget we wouldn't have our outfield problems had Sandy at least tried to keep the two from Omar he didn't ship off. We would only have to think in terms of right field with Beltran probably out of it after this season if Duda gets his bat back enough to compensate for his glove and if Angel Pagan is good enough for the world champion Giants the next four seasons, perhaps he might be good enough for us as well. :)

I'm glad we're not they Yankees who still try to buy old marquee player for most positions but then don't want us to be the anti-Yankee to the point that we virtually have prospects at most positions as well.

You whine about guys not being traded and then you whine when they are. You are just a complainer who is mad because nobody listened to you throughout your life. Even online your seething anger is obvious. But I can understand why the world treats you that way because in reading all your posts, it is amazing and actually almost a statistical impossibility, but you are wrong nearly 100% of the time. Of course that is what happen when you subscribe to an absurd philosophy even in the face of mountains of evidence to the contrary. You hold onto you inane beliefs while the adults fix the Mets. Whine about no money being spend and missing out on those game changing players like Cody Ross etc.... Dream about the days of Omar spending like a 18 year old with dads credit card and signing ridiculous contracts for guys who left their careers in previous cities. Or better yet, since you claim that 35 year old players are better than 25 year old players, go root for the Yankees. Then you will be on boards with like minded, spend no matter what people and you all then can complain about Hal not spending either.

You have a nice day.

Whine about no money being spend and missing out on those game changing players like Cody Ross etc….
