In terms of not willing to go down to the minors, Perez was a pawn in the Boras vs NYM game that year…

if u recall Boras and the Mets were beefing ALL year over Beltran’s knee, they tried ripping up his contract over that issue.

Then Boras tried getting the Mets to DL Perez on a mental health issue and have him see his psychologist ( that Pelf was using too )

The mets said NO

Then Boras had Perez decline the minor league assignment

They were in a pissing match all year…

thats why a month later, Perez gets outed by Jeff Wilpon for not showing up to the Walter Reed hospital

The year that the mets had the highest attendance, 4 people did not go, Castillo, Perez, Beltran and Gee. Jeff decides to leak out that he is raging mad that the first 3 did not go…and Gee was excused because he had to pitch later that day….

Was Jeff mad in 2009 when LESS people went? nope
in 2008? nope
2007? nope

Its clear as day to see what was going on b/w the mets and perez

this is why u never heard a peep about perez in SD, or Pitt or now in Seattle…but when he plays in NY he is the anti-christ

same with beltran

same with castillo

all these guys had good quiet careers before they came here…

I had actually wanted the Mets to go after him after his first monster year w/Pirates, but he became such a prima donna nightmare after we inked him.

Its not very common that you hear of a player/pitcher that has basically lost the plate the way he did, and refuse to take a stint down to the minors because he thought he was above it. What a joke…I loved what we did though…he thought we would release him so he didnt take up a spot on the bullpen bench, but instead we let him rot for 2(?) months out there before putting him in a mop up game at the end of the season….who were the manager & pitching coach then?
