And then again his year last year was not as a closer and coming here with the lousy competition he would be against he could easily win the closer role he desperatly wants and that might just be the incentive that makes him re-ignite and re-discover his career…

Sometimes a guy who has a down year can bounce back with the right encouragment and dedication.
He has something he can WIN BACK here…No way he had that chance last year and probably played for his check instead.

you also have to have some concerns about his #s from last year. put them side by side, and Rauch pretty much outperformed him across the board. About the only thing krod did at a better rate, was K people, but not that big of a difference. And in K/BB, Rauch blew him away.

WHIP: 1.33 vs. .988 (yes, rauch had a whip below one). Old Jon even had more wins!

Beltran and Dickey seemed like nice guys and performed very well for the Mets. That said, KRod merits consideration at the right price. While his latest arrest was troublesome in light of his 2010 issues, the charges were dropped so he was never proven guilty of anything. However, there are different kinds of checkers in a checkered past. I am for second chances, but repeatedly beating up family members and women is a pretty strong reason to shop elsewhere, so hopefully KRod has gotten his act together, whether he lands with the Mets or not.

They say they are going to sign one player to a multi year contract this offseason. I dont see it being on a relief pitcher. I wouldnt mind seeing one or 2 one year contracts for BP help but keep openings for the Kids to fill.

However, I said it jokingly, perhaps there is something there, but he hasn’t been very good in a while (compared to what I know)

who cares about nice guys, i want productive players.

the wilpons put personality above production and we end up with neither as the media usually finds every lil piece of dirt on when a player is going through a slump.

Barry Bonds in 1992 would never be on the mets radar….

not because he wasnt good enough on the field…

he wasnt good enough off the field…( with the media )

Keith Hernandez was a coke-head and had more baggage than Zsa Zsa Gabor.

Get K-Rod…let him perform well as a closer….trade him for a mid-level prospect in July ( not 2 dishwashers like we did the last time )

Anyone we sign should be automatic trade bait…this is all about 2015 and beyond…no sense signing someone to appear competitive….or try to “change perceptions” as the lord and savior sandy alderson likes to say…

Francisco had chips removed at the end of the year, but he may have been pitching in pain for months. I dont want to load the bullpen with FAs because there are some pitchers in our system who need to show what they can do like Familia. Edgin came out of nowhere and did a nice job.
I also would like to see Parnell get another shot a closer based on what he showed last september.

I would prefer “Papa Grande” Jose Valverde. He was a dominating closer in 2011 and then struggled late in 2012. However, he´s been better than Capps or Rauch have ever been and could be a nice upgrade over FF and also have value at the trade deadline if the Mets are in a position to sell.

Pretty sure he can be had for a 1-year, “make-good” deal in the 6 million $ range.

Otherwise, I´d like to see the Mets add another lefty to get Robert Carson more time at AAA. Maybe a return of Pedro Feliciano on a minor league deal ?

Otherwise, I´d like to see Jeurys Familia be in the Mets bullpen fulltime to groom him as a late inning reliever longterm. After 550+ pro innings in the minors, I doubt there´s a good chance for him to improve his command and off-speed pitch in a way that makes him an acceptable SP. However, as a reliever who can blow batters away with upper 90s fastball and a vicious slider he could be a dominating force in time and be another piece to the longterm pitching puzzle here at low cost. And having a well-liked and respected veteran like Valverde around for a while wouldn´t hurt in that regard either.
