For the record, here are the 10 names I checked: Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Mike Piazza, Craig Biggio, Curt Schilling, Sammy Sosa, Jeff Bagwell, Tim Raines, Jack Morris, Dale Murphy. Now let’s talk about how I got there.

Mike Piazza

What am I missing here? Mike Piazza was the greatest offensive catcher in baseball history. Period.

Highest OPS (.922). Best slugging percentage (.545). Most homers (427). Best adjusted OPS-plus (143). Tied with the great Yogi Berra in wins above replacement. No one even close in offensive WAR.

So what’s the reason not to vote for Piazza again? Because he couldn’t throw? Because he was a 62nd-round pick who rose to greatness? Because some people kind of think he must have done something fishy sometime, even though a Mets clubhouse guy was one of the Mitchell report’s biggest sources and never accused him?

Sorry. I’m not conspiratorial enough, I guess. But it makes no sense to have a Hall of Fame that doesn’t include the greatest-hitting catcher who ever played baseball. Not to me.

Many of the trainers were the enablers for a lot of the guys that KNEW what they were doing and I bet a lot of guys got treated by those same trainers not knowing what the hell he was using on them at the time.

And Davidoff’s ballot (and any others like it) was the worst. Absolute trash.

If you can damage your body like that and still produce HOF numbers I say you get in quicker

I am really surprised considering the press has the vote that they didn’t go for that storyline and ensure a weeks worth of easy work for themselves.

It would be quite a story if Biggio and Bagwell make it in the same HOF class. Cooperstown would be overridden with Astros fans!

I wonder how much Bagwell and Biggio both being on the same Ballot hurt them.
I’m sure some writers picked one but not the other (despite the shortsightedness of just how great of a story the induction of the pair would be).

I did however get a kick out of the fact that the bottom vote getters were all Part of the Yankees Dynasty….
Lofton was only there a year and did the majority of his HOF resume elsewhere but anything that the Yankees could claim as one of thier own in the hall not getting there is a good thing to me! LOL

And Satish you reminded me I forgot to include that in my post! I didn’t know you could write-in names until I saw that. If so someone needs to vote for Eddie Gaedel!

Same will probably go for Piazza. Once he isn’t a first ballot candidate, him and Bagwell will probably see similar voting numbers.
