Some of your assumptions on Wright though are based on what we fans know right now. We’ve got no idea what they did or did not tell Wright about the state of the team and the plans going forward. And likely we’ll never know.

Wright does not look like he likes being the Center of attention.

However making it a point to be the highest paid player in franchise history completely flies in the face of that.

Saying you want to play on a winner…saying that money is not the most important thing…then signing a max contract with a team that does not have a bullpen, or an outfield, or a catcher…in a division with the Phils, Braves, and Nats flies in the face of that…

David Wright has completely contradicted himself this off-season.

The Wilpons have been consistent.

They make moves to sell tickets, not win games.

this is why they trade for Johan Santana in 2008….then cry broke when it comes to building a bull pen for the 2008 team

then when the worst bullpen in team history blows almost 30 games….( heavy criticism )

they respond by getting K-Rod and Putz

the wilpons have always been RESPONSIVE to issues, rarely proactive

I refuse to put this on Sandy as I dont think he would’ve resigned Wright..
Anyone still trying to blame Sandy for this is not being objective

Sandy does suck in other ways, I think he is and HAS ALWAYS BEEN more COO than GM, depending on the crew he has under him to make the smart baseball moves….but making financial decisions like this isnt one of the things he sucks at

Yes I do know what it takes to be a captain. As I wrote, Wright has acted like the captain of this team while not being officially titled as captain. He speaks for the team and he doesn’t talk trash, etc. Thats what has gotten him the upmost respect from the rest of the ball-club. If that doesn’t qualify him as “Captain”, then IDK why does.

NEWSFLASH!!! Wright was here this year the year before and so on and so on and we have nothing to show for it.

The fan base has completely blown this signing out of proportion because David Wright is a good guy, and likeable. I wouldn’t be surprised if the same people hailing this as the greatest day in Mets history is looking back in two years asking themselves what the heck were we thinking?

I will root for David Wright, and I don’t think the signing was horrible – I think the way the fans are reacting to the signing is horrible – Applauding the signing as if it guarantees future success, which it doesn’t. It’s what the organization does from this point on that will determine that.

If not – then stop acting like you have any idea what happens behind closed doors.

Derrek Lee was the captain of the cubs. Explain to me why that was because by your description of a captain – he shouldn’t have been – yet he was.

All this talk of captain is so ridiculous. If the players think he’s a captain – then he’s the captain. If not, then he’s not. They know – we don’t.

And dont act like Sandy ruined the franchise by paying him that amount of money. first of all read the contract details as published so far . second of all , dude lets be honest right here , just for a second. If sandy would have let wright go next year , or for some prospects instantly…. who do you think would have been the very first person to complain here that sandy doesnt spend the whole money he saved on wright contract ???? What has Wright done to earn the title captain? What has he done in his entire Mets career to earn being named Captain? Tell me? A few big hits last year when all the other team’s stars are gone? That’ it?

You know when he had a the opportunity to be respected by his peers as a go to guy? From 06-08 and it did not happen. Other players were the ones that were responsible for the most defining moments of those Mets campaigns. Not Wright. Sure he was part of the arsenal but tell me one of his most defining moments in his Mets career that justifies elevating me to Captain level?

He has no defining moments. He has a couple of big hits in games that meant nothing, that’s it. And he has the longest tenure of the team, that’s it. You want to name him captain because he’s a nice guy? Is that it?

Mets history is wrought with plenty of other players who have contributed to whatever success the Mets have enjoyed in their past and they were never named captains. Wright is a supporting player and the only reason he’s in the forefront now is because everybody else is gone and that’s not a good enough reason to be named Captain.

Knock it off with this silliness already.

The “C” is really more for the fans in my opinion.
