This trade is nothing like the Seaver trade at all. This isn't about comments made at a party, the talks of trading him have been going on for quite some time.

Sorry, but you have have the opportunity to trade a 38 year old pitcher who has had 3 good years his whole career for top of the line prospect in a position the team desperately needs to you do it. It's good baseball, not just business.

So am I to believe that everything you write about the organization is not negative? Is not rediculed? And yes, they are your opinions and there's nothing wrong with that. So why is it a problem if I view it as negative? That my opinion for whatever its worth. Call it my counter point. Look, isn't what this blogging is all about? Everyone comes here to express their opinions and if anyone doesn't expect counter points they don't belopng here.

That is what I felt when responding to Peter. It's all business now and those who don't remember what it was like when not having to be prompted by a public address system to chant "lets go mets" might not understand what we are speaking about - having something that allows us to hang onto a childish innocence - which was what going to a met game used to be all about.

Hi Peter,

Glad to know I am not alone with those feelings.

Decency doesn't stand for anything today. Those who want to look at baseball as a business are right, but it doesn't have to sink to such lows.

It's not just the R.A. trade but what the trade is representative of that makes this is a sad day in Met history for even if the trade does work out in our favor (good chance it will in the long term) the manner in which this organization has severed all ties to what was once a glorious and wonderful franchise. There was a heart back then and for some of us, it is how that "business" is conducted which still means something.

BBLB......Thanks for the history lesson on the Mets, but I don't think I needed you to tell me about the history of blunders, failures and embarrassments this organization has subjected us to. I've been around probably as long as you if not longer, and all of us, you, I and Joe D are all victims of the disgraceful ownership that has run this organization for many years. We even have scars that have cut very deep from previous owners too.

As far as my post is concerned, I never intended it to be confrontational, nor did I try to take away anyone's right to have an opinion. I don't know where you saw that. You must have read into that one. I thought my message was very straight forward and simple; I find it very sad that the track record of this club has left some of us with such negative feelings towards EVERYTHING that the organization now does. It has turned some fans into extremists. And if you know anything about history, extremism is not a good thing. It strips away ones ability to clearly evaluate, assess and be objective on issues. This is because the negative conclusion is already decided based alone on where the move is coming from, and not a thourough assessment of the move itself.

I work hard at not becoming an extremist and try to carefully evaluate each move for what it is. I have no expectations of changing anyone's views or opinions on anything. We are what we are, and it is what it is.

I love Jerry Grote and met him a few times. What a classy person as well as one of the best defensive catcher I think we ever had. Had it not been for Johnny Bench, Grote would have a dozen gold gloves. I wasn't intending to belittle Grote's achievements as much as I was trying to say Seaver would have been a Hall of Famer no matter where he played and who caught him. I'd go as far as saying that in his career the Mets probably cost him an extra 30-40 wins. But as for Grote, I'll take a dozen of him right now on this team. Sorry if my short comment gave the wrong message.

What negativity? Do you have things you can cite? I think you are overreacting in my opinion. Opposing viewpoints do not equal negativity. They are just opinions that you happen to disagree with. From my point of view had I taken your stance, I might consider you negative. But I don't because I do believe we each have the rights to our own views and an obligation to respect those who disagree.

"This organization cannot do a thing right by you.---MetsWatchman"

LOL! Apparently they cant do anything right by the WHOLE FAN BASE...lol....have you seen there win-loss record the past couple years....have you seen the empty seats at the stadium as well??? Ever heard of the Madoff ponzi scheme, or how about the slandering of beloved Mets players....its so much more

So it seems Joe D. shouldnt have his "OWN OPINION"...He should follow the herd who blindly praises every move Sandy makes good or bad....
.
.
"I find the negativity very disturbing, especially at a time when it appears they’ve taken a bold move (albeit risky) with this trade.---MetsWatchman"

One question why should Joe D. or any Mets fan for that matter give this organization the benefit of the doubt for anything

This franchise hasnt been successful in a long time Bro-ski...hard to give failures benefit of the doubt when in regards to success...

NEWS FLASH!!!!! Mets fans no longer follow the.... "YA GOTTA BELIEVE" mantra they want follow the "WE GOTTA SEE IT TO BELIEVE IT" mantra...and all we've seen is terrible teams setup for failure and an organization that doesnt show it wants to win.

After reading your latest articles and posts today I find it sad learning just how much of a contrarian you really are with EVERY move this organization makes. Whether its payroll decisions, player personnel moves, on field, off field, it makes no difference. This organization cannot do a thing right by you. If someone in the FO farted and it smelled like perfume, you'd say why was it so loud. I find the negativity very disturbing, especially at a time when it appears they've taken a bold move (albeit risky) with this trade. Remember, just as signing Wright didn't improve the team, neither would extending Dickey. Sometimes I wonder if you have another agenda.

"As I said in the post, it’s all business now and keeping ownership not only entrenched but in the black and turning a profit."

Maybe I'm crazy but isn't that what every business should strive for......to turn a profit and be in the black? But yet you say it like you're mocking or rediculing them. Do you really believe that slashing payroll is the only thing they're working on? Isn't this trade an indication that they're working on putting a competetive team on the field moving forward? Don't you think they know the only way they'll really start turning profits is by winning in this town and are working toward that goal?

Then I have to say that this trade is a good one, but Raj Davis who could be had for nothing should have easily found his way into the deal. It makes complete sense for both teams since Davis won't see half the playing time in Toronto as he would in Queens.

If the Mets have 25 mill to spend on free agents does that really mean they should use it all? If they can get some guys on one year deals yes, if not no way. I would prefer it to go to next years team when they will be much more flexible and ready to blow up. If they can get a piece that fits long term now, fine. Some bullpen pieces like Howell for 3 years cool. I want to start a campaign for Howell to be honest.
Yes they should add a right fielder and bullpen help, but in the end it probably don't matter and they should not sacrifice 2014 roster spots cause they have cash now. Looking at whats out there there is nothing worth it. They are probably better off trying to trade for an outfielder, and he has to fit for a while and be fairly young. Oakland had a gluten of outfielders, maybe they can get an upside guy like Taylor, Id rather that than Ross to be honest. We do not know whats gonna happen yet. What I do know is this trade was very good for the Met's.

I am not saying not to spend the 25 mill, I am just saying I would rather see them spend half of it wisely than the whole thing. J.P Howell movement starting, lets go Met's
