The only thing you can conclude that Wright may have known was that Dickey wasn’t going to sign an extention unless Wright did which is why he would know that there was no point in mentioning Dickey’s status until his own status was secured.

While Wright is probably sad to see Dickey go, like most people (except Davidoff!) he also realizes the trade filled a big hole and set up the Mets well to compete in 2014 and beyond.

The Phils in 2011 won 100 games. 2012, they had to have a hot finish to get back to .500. T2013? could be in the 70s, could push 100 again.

Braves and nats have some good young talent. Which eventually gets old, moves on, flames out or gets hurt.

all you can do is get the best prjection of talen you can (the “on paper” part), and see how it plays out. More talent = better odds any year, but no guarantee.

I think the Mets are now well-positioned to make a sustained run starting in 2014, if not this year, especially with the added wildcard. The only team in their division that seems to be entrenched as winner is the Nats. I’m not sold on the Braves, especially with the changes in their starting pitching. And, tell me, who on the Phillies scares you anymore, with the possible exception of Halladay. So it’s not like the NL East is imposing anymore. It’s not.

One big caveat is the bullpen. If they don’t significantly improve that, the Mets might be fighting for the Marlins for last place. But if they can fix it, then I don’t see why the Mets can’t be competitive this year.

In fact, since becoming the Nationals in ’05 they never had a winning season until last year including a 103 lose season 4 year ago. Teams can and do rebuild. Happens all the time. And I like the course we are on.

How anyone can look at the young talent we are amassing and not be optimistic about the direction of the is franchise is a mystery to me.

Why do you take every comment that is not praising the Mets personal?

The fact is the Odds are not in the Mets favor….The Nats are built for the long haul they have both Zimmermans,Harper,Strasburg,Gio,Desmond even Werth locked up for a long while

so after an off-season that saw our team get worse, you think the results will be better?

Our management wouldnt even consider changing the pitching coach, after 4 out of the past 5 seasons have been horrific for the bullpen.

At this rate, We are going to be LUCKY if we sniff 3rd place
