Second of all, baseball is a game played by humans and ump’d by humans. If you’d like to negate everything that ever happened due to a bad call then why even bother watching the games? Has a team ever won on a blown strike call? A blown call at first base?

You think the Marlins fans devalue their World Series because of Steve bartman in 03? Or the Yankee fan because of Maier? How about in 09 with Mauer’s double called foul? Or of course the Royals World Series? Gallarraga’s blown perfect game?

I can think of countless moments where a mistake could be viewed as negating the result, but guess what? Real life doesn’t work that way.

If you want to live life thinking you can change the result of blown calls then be my guest – but it’s not reality. Reality is that Johan Santana threw a no hitter, the Royals won the World Series, the Yankees beat the Orioles, the Cubs didn’t win the pennant and Gallarraga did not throw a perfect game

It’s always one or the other, I’d prefer them both to play great, as well as 23 other players, to me that’s a win win, but whatever………

However the philosophy of a bad fair or foul call has a balanced or warning label. Accept it but do not cross the line and advertise it. You don’t look a gift horse in the mouth but don’t mislabel it as something deep down you know is tainted. .Yes it was a no hitter in name only but not the real thing. Take another look.

The umpire’s decisions are as much a part of the game as balls and strikes. It may tick you off at times (as well as me) but the only thing that makes a game official is the scorecard.

Countless games have been won or lost, world series have been won or lost, because of bad calls. Doesn’t matter. We had that guy get robbed of a perfect game on a bad call at first. That meant no perfect game.Doesn’t matter. That pitcher was man enough to shake the umps hand the next day. Classy move – still not a perfect game.

Santana pitched the Mets first and only no-hitter. That is a fact.

You calling it bogus is an opinion which you are rightly entitled to. But the fact is he did throw the Mets first no-hitter.

10 years from now, you’re not going to remember where you were the day Wright signed, or the day Matt Harvey had a nice start or even when Dickey was traded probably.

You’re going to remember Santana’s no hitter for as long as you live. Baseball is a game of “moments” for fans. And Johan Santana gave Mets fans the most positive & meaningful “moment” since Endy Chavez’s catch probably.

I mean you gotta be kidding me with some of these comments “Johan’s no hitter was bogus.” because of a foul ball call? Was Beltran called out on that play or did he have another chance to get a hit? Give me a break.

And to say Johan’s deal was a bad one, I’m sorry but that is the ultimate hindsight 20/20. First of all they acquired him for almost nothing. He finished 3rd in cy young in 2008 and did his job to keep the Mets in the playoff hunt.

It’s not his fault the team failed in past years. I’d still make that trade any day of the week and still would sign him to the exact same deal if it was the only way to get him in a Mets uniform.

Did they really? Tejada is a nice singles hitter. He did better than I thought he would. He’s ok in the field. But he has no speed to speak of and no power at all. It would have been nice to have tejada at second while keeping Reyes. I think Reyes is too unique a player to be replaced. Who’s going to lead off next year?

Agree with pretty much everything you wrote with small exception that you should have given equal billing to how bad Ike hit in the first half of the year (.200 for first half of the year) as to his 32 homers.

He never really did get back on track hitting .228 in September.

Interesting to see which Ike shows up next year. I would settle for 20 dingers, a .280 BA and 100 RBI. He needs to close that hole in his swing.

I predict Ike will be above average in defense, hit a boatload of HRs, but not hit for average. As he said near end of last season: ‘they pay me to hit HRs, I’m not doing much else right now’.
I’ll be thrilled if his plate discipline improves enough to hit for average and scatter some singles and doubles in there with his HRs.

And LOL I cannot even imagine thecrap Wright would get if he turned in a season like “face of the franchise” Ike just did. If it was Wright nobody would give a crap about the HRs, they’d be flipping out about the low average. And you’d all kill him for doing most of his damage after the Mets were out of it.

I havent seriously watched the NBA since they banned playing defense but The Mets are gonna make me seriously contemplate it.

No way Harvey…the guy only has 10 starts to his credit.

As for the worst contract, FA or otherwise, Johan isnt even close. Do you remember the first three years where he gave 200+ innings and kept the Mets in most games he pitched. His record wasnt great but then the Mets never seemed to score for him and rarely fielded.

Contracts that were worse than Johan’s:

Glavine, Coleman, Bay, R. Cedeno, Pedro, Alou, and Bonilla.
