Hi Joe,

The disbelief is still there, to this day. We happen to put on CBS-880 after midnight, not knowing anything. They were playing “Imagine” and there was the sick feeling in my stomach sensing something had to be terribly wrong.

Yes, he was only a human being and so he had his faults like everyone else (including not being a father to Julian) but he was also such an advocate for all that was good in us and it is truly a shame that during his lifetime so many saw him as a dangerous political threat, the complete opposite of what he really was.

John, you are still missed today by all.

The Better Half and I just walked by Strawberry Fields in Central Park and as always, there were hundreds of people there singing Beatles songs and John’s songs as a solo artist. I can “IMAGINE” that in fifty or sixty years, it will be the same, even if no one there would have been alive on that fateful night of Dec. 8, 1980. That’s what a true legend he was.

I wasn’t around when the Beatles played Shea Stadium, but through old video of the concert, I know how John and his bandmates made the place rock as if it was a Mets World Series game.

Even after all these years his loss still saddens me whenever I hear one of his songs.

Has it really been 32 years? I will never forget that night. I was at the dakota the next night and the central park memorial that sunday. John, we miss you. The best christmas song ever is his happy xmas (war is over) if you want it.

Hi Joe

Thanks for taking the time and doing a piece on the remembrance of this incredible man. I’m sure a lot of posters here are too young to remember him. The nightmare of that evening will forever play in my head. I remember watching the Monday night football game and just becoming frozen in utter disbelief when the news bulletin broke into the game broadcast. We all lost more than just a great man that evening. We lost the great spirit that he so successfully passed onto all of us through his music and got us through some very tough times. Thanks again Joe and may he RIP.
