Signs Indicating R.A. Dickey Will Be Dealt

Screenshot_2According to Ken Rosenthal, signs are pointing towards R.A. Dickey being traded, he reports via twitter. The Mets and Dickey’s inability to come to an agreement on a contract extension and that 1-year, $5 million deal for 2013 is beginning to look a lot more attractive to teams who missed out on the likes of Zack Greinke, James Shields and now Anibal Sanchez.

The Mets are currently at a standstill with R.A. Dickey on contract talks. Dickey is looking for two-years and $26 million while the Mets camp seems to be fixed on two years at $10 million per year.

Buster Olney of ESPN reported earlier today that a general manager told him that if the Mets could extend Dickey’s contract, his trade value would increase.

We’ll keep you posted as more news comes in on this new development….

  • Yet another sad, sad F*&^ing chapter in Mets history. How disgusting to treat this kind of player this way. Sorry, I just hate it.

    • I hate the way they’ve treated R A. they said the same thing about him that they were spewing about Ike during the summer. The Wilpons are just a disgrace.
I love R A and I hope he goes to a team who wants him and treats him in that manner. I hate this organization, screw you Bud Selig for allowing this mess to continue.

  • Its crazy they they are offering Dickey 10 mil per year…when they are paying Frank Francisco 6 mil per year

    LMAOOOO

    • Not even 10 Mil per , when you come right down to it they are only offerring him 2.3 Mil more than they gave Francisco….

      Suck is worth 6 Mil
Cy Young just 2.3 Mil more!

  • Sandy Alderson’s ego is so far up his own you know what, now he has become more hated then the Wilpons. Omar as much as he sucked was never this big of an ego control freak.

  • If Dickey is traded it had better be because the return offer was more than worth it…not b/c the two couldn’t reach an agreement so the Mets will just take whatever they can get for him.

Could be those stories are true that Mets ownership has ‘personal’ issues with Dickey.
Only the Wilpons could have a problem with Dickey. You just can’t make this stuff up.

    • Could be those stories are true that Mets ownership has ‘personal’ issues with Dickey.
Only the Wilpons could have a problem with Dickey. You just can’t make this stuff up”

You know what’s funny… Everyday you come up here with the same BS about the wilpons and your leader never says sh** to you like he does to us when we blame alderson for the sh**** job he’s doing. Everyday you with your “Blame the wilpons” and not a word from the king of the desert… SMH..

      • Damn, I do have an occasional life. But so be it.

        Bad, SRT. Bad.

        • Damn, I do have an occasional life. But so be it”

Do you?? Now that we’re talking about one of your precious desert member you have a life? Yet you’re here 24/7 trying to debate with us and always on our cases about your america-n idol SA. yet when she does on and on and on about blaming the wilpons then it’s “I have a life” No wonder your site is pathetic and deserted

          • LOL, poor guy you are so incredibly jealous of so many things and desperate that you call out people when they are not around for being here too much.

It’s basketball season, I don’t have time to do our same pointless arguments everyday. Just every other.

          • Jealous? Poor? Lol, ohhh man… You’d be in for a surprise. Also, what do you mean it’s basketball season? For a guy whose team rarely makes the playoffs you should be getting ready for baseball season since you’re not winning anything anytime soon…

            • Made it every year I have been here and I am the only coach in school history over .500 for a career. Got a hot start at 6-1 this year but tonight’s game will be tough. School we play has twice as many students as us. Thanks for asking though.

              • Good luck… I hope you lose! :-D

                • Well if that’s the case I am just staying home then.

                • Well, if that’s the case, they have a chance to win. otherwise is a beat down tonight..

                  • Man, I hope not. They play hard despite my incompetence. LOL.

          • So what?
So I believe it’s the Wilpons and the money and nothing but and you want to just blame the FO.

So what? Why does this infuriate you so much? Inquiring minds want to know.

            • I don’t give a f*** who you blame… Problem i have is that your leader always comes at whoever tries to blame the FO, and we too have the right to express our opinion, yet if we do it every day he has a beef with us. Meanwhile every day you not only express your opinion on how much you hate the wilpon, but you THIS whoever takes a shot at them every day and yet your leader says nothing to you… That’s part of the reason why some of the desert members are treated the way they are here… It starts at the top..
People respect Joe D, i can’t find anyone who respect TRS to be honest…

              • I don’t have a leader.

You’re far too angry over a baseball team with fans who have opposing views to yours.

              • Right… Is that why you THIS most of the comments pertaining the wilpons? While some of us blame everyone here you only point your finger at them as if they’re the ones bringing in the carrascos, franciscos of the world to play for the mets.. Give me a break. The moneyball phylosophy of sandy is causing this team to suffer as well. We have money now, yet he chooses to not spend it on anything, doesn’t that tell you ALL you need to know about the man and his tactics?

                • What I know right now about this Dickey situation is what’s been reported. And that’s SA would prefer to extend him and ownership has ‘issues’ with him.
Also reported in that same vein was SA would have preferred to trade Wright, the Wilpons wanted him signed for life as their ambassador.

                  Shooting the messenger….

              • LOL, well ask Joe D and I am willing to bet you find one right there. Boy oh boy are you one confused innocent little soul aren’t you?

        • Wrong again. I do not now or ever will have an account on Facebook.
          But nice try.

          • It was a joke since all you preach is The Wilpons are the devil…..which I dont necessarily disagree with but I spread the blame to where it belongs I dont dwell on how bad they are….I also criticize those whom they hire to run the day to day business

            • That’s fine.
I believe in putting the blame where I believe it belongs – instead of shooting the messenger, which is always convenient.

      • LOL…..what?

    • SRT, absolutely 100% correct. Those who do not learn from history are condemned to repeat. Though the “Midnight Massacre” happened on another ownership/management watch (clearly), have the Mets in their history learned nothing by treating players who are actually PROUD to wear the laundry wrong is not a GOOD thing?? This story has me infuriated.

    • Sorry to say this SRT but thats exactly what is going to happen here….
They will hold out as long as they can and then take the best offer they have regardless of it actually being worth it as an even exchange.

      They want more kids….
they don’t care how good the player is and what he can do for the team his greatness is only being measured by how many kids he can get back in trade.

If they could have gotten enough kids for Wright he would be gone already but because he was going to command a much higher salary they couldn’t get a lot back because of that cost.

  • “Signs Indicating Dickey Will Be Dealt”

Lmao….I tell my woman this all the time

hehehehe Dickey jokes never get old

    • LMMFAOL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The schlockmeister Wilpons Uncle Saul and their stooge SA can’t handle a class act like RA Dickey. If he’s traded I hope it’s to a NL team, That he’s the starting NL All Star pitcher in some other teams uniform, that he has another 20 win or better season and pitches a perfect game at an empty CitiField. That’s my fantasy of schadenfreude and just what these clowns deserve.
    .
The suckage and ineptitude of this organization is more than fans can handle. I’m really beginning to think there’s a curse on this organization in particular and Met fans in general. We can never have anything nice. Way to go momzers!!!

    • You know how Forbes(I think its Forbes) does that 100 or 500 best companies to work for in the country, based on the employees view point.

I would love to see the MLB version or even the American sports franchise version. I can guarantee the Mets would be at the bottom of that list with the Marlins.

  • Only the NY MESS! can make a man who selflessly risked losing $4.25Million attempting to climb Kilamanjaro in an effort to raise money and awareness to FIGHT human sex trafficking….KIDS,TEENAGERS being sold for SEX….

The Mets called that Dickey being an attention seeker LMAO!!!!

    COMICAL!

Now the are trying to paint him as the bad guy because he is pushing to stay with the Mets. With a reasonable offer….You just payed David Wright way more than the current going rate, a guy who is coming off 4 down years. Yet Dickey who is coming off 3 good to great years you low ball him trash him with un-named sources publicly state you want to trade him because his value is high…..BUT, IF you dont get what you want you’ll consider re-signing him to an extension….

BUT he cant talk about the contract negotiations only you can put your spin on it….you have a monopoly on speaking to the media….

Didnt the Mets PISS of David Wright with this same tactic in their contract negotiations leaking crap to the media????

Reyes was smart enough to sign thte 1st solid deal he received which prevented the Mets from further bashing him to the media

    • There we go again with Reyes.

Reyes signed the first deal that came along that was $20M more than the Mets, or anyone else would pay. Notice how 28 other teams were not rushing out to acquire his services like other FAs. Hell, Hairston has more teams interested in him than Reyes did. That should tell you something.

And Dickey is being stalled until all trade avenues are exhausted which is the smart thing to do. If Dickey has a problem with it tough; welcome to the big leagues. The Mets are doing what is in their best interest as is Dickey. Dickey does not want to go into next season without a deal….he puts too much money at risk if he gets hurt or has a crap year.

      • No hesigned the second deal that came along and that first deal was 96Mil more than the Mets offerred because they never offerred ANYTHING!

He didn’t take that first 96 Mil deal he took the second 106Mil deal once other teams had called his agent about setting up a meeting and the Marlins raised thier bid and added a take it or leave it condition to it.

reyes and his agent decided they liked Miami more than the possibility of more money someplace else and took the SECOND Miami offer….

Nice try at revisionist history though…You should get a job with Oliver Stone he needs good history rewriters all the time.

      • Dumb response. Reyes only had one offer that we know of….and it wasn’t from the Mets. He wanted to getting taken care of as did his agents who were under ernormous pressure to get something done after Jose stayed loyal to them and told Boras to get lost. He could have got more if he waited ala Fielder but opted not to. Mets had no intention of retaining him at a market cost. They gave in on Wright only to make people like you happy. Totally inconsistent with the Alderson way.
Dickey is on the cover of SI telling of his child abused past. He also pitched half the year with a serious abdominal injury never complaining about it. For that we offer him an extension in the Frank Francisco range. It’s pathetic and so are you to suggest he needs to get tough because he is in the big leagues. Your a joke and need to grow up. The way you treat good people is important and when you treat them like crap , you are crap

        • Thats plain bull….
          Reyes got two offers….
One for 96 Mil and another for 106 Mil that he took!

Any attempt to say otherwise is an outright lie!

His agents were not under any pressure until the 106 Mil offer was made with a take it or leave it note at the Winter Meetings.
And he got that because Mil and Washington both talked to his agent about setting up a visit.
Marlins heard that and said we can’t wait either sign or we move on and added 10 Mil to the original offer.

Yes he could have gotten more if he waited….But he got enough to placate him which is proof Reyes wasn’t all about the money!

    • Hi BBLB,

      You are so right.

The only disagreement I have was when you wrote: “Reyes was smart enough to sign thte 1st solid deal he received which prevented the Mets from further bashing him to the media”.

Where have you been the past year? :) The Mets have continued their Jose bashing to the media to make him appear as a selfish ballplayer with no loyalty to his former club as one of a series of attempts to draw attention away from how the organization is conducting business.

There was no way Jose was going to escape being used as a whipping boy by the Mets. All we hear from the organization is that Jose walked, nothing about the front office having never talked.

  • This is funny. Whatever the Mets end up doing, they will be blasted.
Even in the event of a totally unrealistic package of elite prospects, pretty sure some will find sth negative about it.

Let’s see what happens and what the return is.

BTW, if this is really an “anti- RA” conspiracy because ownership and / or SA have a personal problem

  • We all love RA, that said the Mets have a real need for at least one power hitting outfielder do they not? The idea is to get one who will be a part of the future when this team is a contender every year, correct? there is no help coming from the minors, true? There is no FA outfielder out there who fits that bill. they are all on the wrong side of 30. Nobody wants to see Niese dealt so what other option do the mets have at this point? I eagerly await a realistic answer and please dont give me move wright to the outfield. Its not happening. realisticly, what other options are out there.

    • No one is criticizing the Mets for wanting to trade Dickey..

We are criticizing the way they are handling this whole process. Un-named mets executives sources grumbling personal issues with Dickey etc.

The Mets always do this when negotiating with players.

You dont bad mouth a player like Dickey ESPECIALLY if you are trying to trade him for the best package available.

We’ve never heard anyone badmouth or any bad reports on Dickey until NOW…and its no coincidence

      • ‘You dont bad mouth a player like Dickey ESPECIALLY if you are trying to trade him for the best package available.’

        This.
        Kind of telling, isn’t it?

      • what badmouthing? they werent happy that he told the mets about his grievances? is that what you are talking about?

        • Included before that was the Mets ownership expressing ‘concern’ that Dickey’s new found notoriety and his off field activities could interfere with his concentration and pitching.

Yeah, we sawso much evidence of that last year after he climbed Mt. K., his book came out and he pitched all but 2 starts with a torn stomach muscle and not going on the DL. SMH…..

          • Hi Srt,

A class act like R.A. deserves better than the classless act he works for. Whereas Sandy shows his concerns are not about people but money, R.A. shows that his primary concern is for others – hence he climbed the mountain knowing it put his contract and career at risk and he pitched with a torn stomach muscle all season long.

Regarding Sandy and money, nobody is coming down on the profit motive. It’s just that there is room to be a financial success without having to piss down on everybody.

R.A. did absolutely nothing wrong when answering those questions which he did not raise but were brought up by the television network that is also partially owned by the team. I am glad Kevin Burkhardt gave him that opportunity to speak to the fans.

  • If there’s anything Dickey is a victim of here it is being signed to an existing legal contract that has him, the reigning Cy Young award winner being paid only $5 mil next year. Can someone tell me why the organization, needs to sign him so quickly without exploring every option. They are in a win win situation and have all the leverage here. They are truly approaching this as prudently as possible. Why shouldn’t they explore every trade option possible, last month, this month or next month if necessary. If no good trade package comes along they can still always give Dickey the $26 mil 2 year extension. Does anyone really believe Dickey will turn it down if the offer doesn’t come by spring training. Or are fans worries for Dickey’s feelings that he may be hurt by the delay. Are fans worried that he may feel dissed and not perform if they delay his signing. Give me a break. Dickey will eventually either be traded or sign to an extension thats agreeable to both parties. But for now the Mets are doing exactly what they should be doing. Hey this FO and owners give us enough to bash them for, but lets call this one for what it is.

    • Agree.

    • Right, Dickey at any point could pull a 180 and say if it isn’t done by Jan 1 I am not talking extension. However, if he does that he better hope he doesn’t have a bad year or get injured.

      • Dickey’s a smart enough man NOT to put a gun to their heads…….he’ll take the extension even if it comes the day pitchers and catchers report!!

  • I think the mets ar epissed that Dickey sandbagged them with the press at a Christmas party. Certain venues should be off limits. People are funny about somethings. I like Dickey but he is a microphone hound. Having said that, I think the businesslike approach is best, and that they need to trade him.

    • The Mets also need to grow up and not take things personally. I have a feeling it is Jeff who has his nose out of joint. So what that Dickey opened his mouth. Fine it wasnt the classiest move. But so what. It has should have no bearing on the future decision of what to do with him. Nor should the fact that he climbed a mountain against their wishes. If a trade offer comes in that improves the Mets, they need to pull the trigger. If not, then sign him and have him locked up for the next 3 years.

    • The Mets are pissed because Dicey told the truth about how they negotiate with players and have since Sandy got here!

Thats all, they are pissed he told the truth, because they know the truth will kill them.

    • Hi jdon,

A microphone hound? Who approached him and asked him those questions?

I think it is refreshing when we see one in the public eye amiable to talking honestly with the media. I think a media-hound is more representative by the likes of a Reggie Jackson or any politician making looking to take advantage of a situation for a photo opportunity.

      • Cmon Joey, I said I like Dickey I like him a lot. But he loooves the mike.

        • Hi jdon,

Please realize that we were discussing the flack caused by the interview and with comments about him being a microphone hound and the Mets being angry that he aired his feelings at what was an inappropriate time wrongly infers that it was R.A. who was responsible for creating the flack which was completely wrong.

On Sports Night, Kevin Burkhardt said he wanted to set the record straight – R.A. was in New York for another reason, unaware there was a children’s Christmas party that day. At the last minute he was asked by the Mets if he would attend it. Despite it being a last minute request and R.A. was in New York to attend to other personal business, he said yes and took time out from his schedule to be there.. The Mets had invited both the press and R.A. to the event and Kevin said it was his job when interviewing Dickey to ask those questions of him and then added what else could the Mets have expected the media to do.

It was not R.A. who used the party as a forum to voice his feelings. He wasn’t even scheduled to be there and he was approached by the media to talk about. Burkhardt wanted to know his opinions and R.A. was being honest and open. He was also being gracious to the organization, saying there was also the owner’s side to the issue and they too have valid reasons to consider what is in the best interest of the team, reasons he said even he was probably unaware of.

How much fairer could one be? R.A. certainly does not deserve to be subjected to such second guessing.

  • OK, so nobody here disagrees that it in the mets best interest to wait until they get a good return for dickey. That signing him prematurely would mean they just wasted thier best chance to upgrade the TEAM? good to see we could all agree on something :D

    • It certainly is in their best interest to see what they can get. Dickey is one of the few valuable pieces they have.

  • “Buster Olney of ESPN reported earlier today that a general manager told him that if the Mets could extend Dickey’s contract, his trade value would increase.”

I been saying this for weeks now only to be shot down and ridiculed by the SAND PEOPLE….

If you sign this guy you might just get the kids you want because they don’t have to worry about extending him to more than he is asking for now and they don’t have to worry about giving him a qualifying offer (that could be more than he is asking for) just to get the comp picks back for him after the option expires.

The one thing that always scares off teams on trades is how much UNKNOWN are they trading for?
The performance can never be accuratly quantified so it comes down to either make a trade at rental prices or wait till we extend him and then trade for him when the payroll question on him is settled for the next 3 years.

Anyone who thinks they would rather negotiate on thier own should understand they can do that anyway next season without having to give up a single prospect.

    • Adam Rubin also reported that Dickey’s agent said they would be open to negotiating a longer deal with the team whom he is traded:

“Bo McKinnis, Dickey’s agent, has said he would be willing to negotiate an extension with a suitor before a trade is completed. So, perhaps, it’s a moot point as long as the Mets are willing to give a pursuing team a window to extend Dickey as a contingency of a trade.”

      http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/mets/post/_/id/59397/gm-extending-dickey-would-up-trade-value

      • Right, and why wouldn’t he be open to negotiating with them? Regardless of where, Dickey wants to play baseball no matter what….

The issue is a TIMING issue…
They would not enter into negotiations until after the trade package was set.
So the value of return will be based on having to negotiate with Dickey not set and known.

In essence you get no more than your getting now and the Mets have LESS leverage because those negotiations are under Dickey’s control as much as anyone else’s and he could ask for more and enough to make that deal not worth it to them.

But if he is signed BEFORE the deal is made then that cost is already a known, the Value set and the return on kids is based on what a Cy Young guy signed for 3 years is worth as opposed to what he might be worth after the negotiations.

For the same reason why Niese is worth more in trade than Dickey due to his long control, the value on Dickey would also go up based on control for the next three years.

We know what price he is willing to sign for….It’s pretty damn cheap you have to admit.
So sign him and then try and trade him and get that extra pick you won’t get now because you don’t know how much he wants when at the time you agreed to the give package.

        • good reasoni ng, metsie but sign and trades are not done in MLB. If this is the way it has to be done so be it.

          • Sure they are the rules ionly apply to NEW contracts to players you don’t already own not extentions of old ones!

Dickey is already a Met and any signing is an extention of the old contract meaning we can trade him because he already served a year on our roster nullifying the rules of the sign and trade limitations….

The only difference is that Dickey can demand a trade from his new team or ask for free agency once he is there.

  • I hate seeing Dickey treated like this,it’s unfair and is not justified. Personally,I believe it’s more SA’s fault then anything, because if the Wilpon’s didn’t take charge of the D-Wright extension talks,he would’ve never signed that deal. This isn’t San Diego or Oakland Mr.Alderson, this is New York City.
