Quotes From David Wright’s Press Conference

“I knew this was where I wanted to be. It made the decision pretty easy. I think that my friends and family knew that putting this uniform on was important to me, start to finish.”

“I never wanted to put a doubt in anyone’s mind that this is where I wanted to be. I never wanted to put another uniform on, and I’m happy I’m wearing this one. To me there was no thought of putting on another uniform.”

“I want to win. I want to be remembered like those ’86 guys are, like the ’69 guys. That’s how I want to be remembered. Ultimately you want to be a winner. That’s my goal.”

“I didn’t sign back here to lose. I think that with the plan that Sandy and his staff have moving forward with the commitment from ownership that not only are we going to get this thing turned around, but we’re going to win. After I heard the conviction, the plan moving forward, I was all in.”

Okay, okay.. First of all, WHAT PLAN? Second of all, can anybody actually agreed with him that the contract was what sealed the deal for him on being a met? Specially after it was worked out for him to make more than Johan? Let’s be real here, the mets have no plan whatsoever and it’s obvious by what’s going on, this was a get wright sign, defered the contract to apeace mets fans and continue to get POS’s to fill the roster and we’ll put fannies in the seat..

    • You think just because they haven’t come right out and told the public what their plan is, that they don’t have one?

Excuse me, I didn’t know about the requirement for all GM’s to tell the public everything.

waaah waaaah. quit your friggin whining.

Seems pretty obvious to me that the plan is the same now that is has been since they took over. To let bad contracts run out, let young players develop, and go for it in 2014 and beyond.
Unless you have a crystal ball and know for a fact that they’re going to have a payroll of 30 million in 2014, shut the hell up.

      • Exactly! Santana will be gone; Bay’s $ will be mainly available; Harvey, Wheeler, and Niese (and maybe Dickey) will provide very good starting pitching. Then free agents and trades (and some young guys) will boost the outfield, catching, bench, and bullpen.

    • Duuuuuuuuuuuh Santan’s deal was 137.5 for 6 and Wright’s is 138 for 8. Who makes more again? Johan 23 per and Wright 17.25 yeah Wright makes more. lol

  • LEnnon:
“Wright’s contract not backloaded. Bulk is in middle 5 years. Only $8 M in ’13, then lowers some for final two”

Kudos to wright in trying to help the team, problem is, once again, just like reyes and beltran and krod’s money won’t be use to help the team but the wilpon’s pocket and sandy’s christmas bonus..

    • SMH….Sandy to Francessa when asked about improving….Have our hitters get back to our APPROACH and stick to the PLAN….

      APPROACH…………… PLAN……………….

      HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP!!!!

      • Did you put your fingers in your ears every time he said they need more power, how much it helped playoff teams etc……..

Yeah he ONLY said they have to get back to their plan

You little boys club really are becoming a bore………..go start your own site

        WEHATESOMUCHWE’LLLIEABOUTWHATISREALLYBEINGSAIDTOPERPETUATEOURIGNORANCE.COM

        • Im being told to start a new site by you?!?!?!?

          WTF are YOU!

And I wasnt gonna quoting EVERYTHING he said I focused on what he has been saying ever since he JOINED the Mets sticking to the PLAN and APPROACH….

Would you like me to go through the whole freaking transcript of the interview????Idiot!

And what did I lie about???? Didnt he say PLAN & APPROACH as the Main things they need to stick to????? HUH??? smh…Numbskulls

    • you honestly are sitting there telling us you think the payroll is going to be 30 million in 2014?

      this is what you’re saying?

  • Man, those dimples look extra sparkly!

Good deal, Happy we have our Met for lift who, if he stays healthy, should own about every offensive Met record.

    • Man, those dimples look extra sparkly!”

      SRThoughts:

      THSI^^^^

      • Like chum in the water, the sharks come out. Forgot the sarcasm font. But it is funny to see what the focus is on… SRT, stay strong, my friend!

      • “i don’t go at HER because she’s a female or anything like that, i am very tired of your sh** of always pinning the arguments and issues i have with her because somehow she’s a female or making it out to be like i somehow don’t like women on this site” – Alex68

        • Alex, if you want people to stop accusing you of having issues with female users because maybe that is something you take great offense to (with respect) – then perhaps using a female users name as a mocking tool with regards to a baseball players dimples is not the best way to go?

I am somebody who has been falsely accused of similar accusations and it ticks me off too but I know it’s not true as does my family and friends. If you want people to think you don’t have a problem with SRT – then don’t use her name when she didn’t even comment

          • Look at this exchange right here:

            Alex68 December 5, 2012 at 1:45 pm

Leroy, you know what really sucks? SRT can say the same sh** over, and over, and over about the wilpons being broke and blame the wilpons for everything mets, yet her and her leader gets on us whenever we blame alderson and want us to move on once and for all.. go figure!

            srt December 5, 2012 at 1:51 pm

Move along, Alex. This article was about the Wilpons finances. I commented on that. I think the entire MMO community here knows how you feel about my opinions.

            Alex68 December 5, 2012 at 1:57 pm

Are you leroy???? Don’t tell me to move along, i don’t tell you to move along ok, i find that very disrespectful coming from someone who often cries wolf about how some people mistreat you.. Same thing your leader says to us is the same we say to you.. Don’t blame the wilpons on this one, BLAME trs

This is a grown man, not a teenager. I wouldn’t even expect this from a teenager. This is just out of control. Grow the eff up.

            • I don’t think we or anybody needs evidence of anybody else’s poor behavior. I think we get it. All I’m merely trying to do is show Alex that if he has a problem being called a sexist then saying things like “SRThoughts: THSI^^^^” probably isn’t the best way to go about it.

      • JesseB try to attacks again… I feel real sorry for you.. at some point you’ll realize your attempt to make me look like some sort of bad guy in front of Joe D to get me ban in here are futile. I do the same thing TRS does, plain and simple. I attack Craig for being a homer and bias towards sandy, sabermetrics and DW, yet you never came to his defense, but in the SRT case you come to her defense becasue you can hang on the female card and make it seem i am attacking her (Which i don’t) for being a female. You are a very pathetic and sad human being, but i get the reason as to why you are so no need to get there. at this point the only person who doesn’t see you as the little B**** you are somehow is Joe D because he feels you’re a writer or some sort of in the site. It’s getting sad watching trying to get us ban here trying to use every little mean available to you. now you’re copy and paste things i said about SRT to pretend i am some sort of feminist? Yet you cry foul when i call you a r*acist? And i did it and have done it with real prove, from your attacks to reyes, the article about not wanting black players like upton on the team how you and fonzie feel about l*atinos etc.. If you don’t want me to call you that, i suggest you leave this one alone and move on from trying to accuse me of something i’m not, whoever defends alderson is getting the CORE’s wrath.. and that’s a fact.. Whether is the people from the desert, or R*acistSnakes like you and others everyone who defend the guy will feel it..

        • See Alex, here’s where you’re missing the big picture. I haven’t said anything negative toward you today during your whole srt/fem issues. I’ve tried to help you see that while you feel you are being unfairly portrayed as something deplorable – you do the exact same thing to others (me included). So perhaps as an adult you’d think “wow i’m not a sexist, this feels kinda cra ppy being accused of such a thing” and think maybe just maybe accusing others of similar things isn’t really the best way to go?

Saying things like “the article about not wanting black players like upton on the team” when what I really have a big problem with his Upton’s home/road splits is just a perfect example of why nobody should feel bad for you when you are called a sexist because nothing I’ve ever said in my life about Justin Upton being a met has anything to do with the color of his skin. If you choose to make it about that, then you’re the one with issues – not me.

          • Jessep don’t waste your time trying to reason with a classless imature lowlife. He’s too dumb to realize what he is.

    • “Man, those dimples look extra sparkly!”

      O_o

  • The mets did a great job of stretching this re-signing of David Wright out for “TWO WEEKS” to distract the fanbase.

While other teams add NEW talent we are still where we were during the season minus some players

    • Giants haven’t done a thing.
      Yankees haven’t done a thing.
      Rangers haven’t done a thing.
      Phillies haven’t done a thing.
      Cardinals haven’t done a thing.

      I’ll stop there.

If he hasn’t done anything and its April 1, then we’ll talk.

      • Technically…

        Giants reupped Pagan and Affeldt.
        Yanks reupped Kuroda
        Rangers just signed Soria

        Offseason’s far from over, folks.

        • I assume they meant in terms of “new talent”

Right now on December 5th you can say the Nationals got better with Haren, the Red Sox got better by default, Pirates got better with Martin and that’s about it.

I can’t say Texas got better with Soria yet because Hamilton is still in doubt. I can’t say Atlanta got better because I think Bourn was better than Upton will be, plus the loss of Chipper and losing Hanson.

I just get this sneaking suspicion that Hamilton is going to end up in the NL East. If he does, I’m still not worried because I think if he goes anywhere but Texas it’s going to be a bad deal for the team. Atlanta to me seems like the sneaky team (put Hamilton in LF) though Philly gets off on that sorta thing.

          • correct. NEW talent. Pagan and Affeldt were already on the Giants. Kuroda was already on the Yankees. Rangers are plus Soria, but for the time being minus Hamilton.

          • well, based on how the performed and the risk with injuries, Haran is really just replacing Jackson.

As with payroll, you can’t just focus on what came in new, you have to also look at what was lost.

        • HITMAN,

Every team he mentioned made the playoffs last year with the one exception being the Phillies whom missed it due to injuries.

We have too many holes and there arent a lot of uality guys out there and I dont see how Sandy fills all these openings with trades….He’s no wheeler and dealer like a Steve Phillips who would trade anything moving.

      • ALL OF THOSE TEAMS YOU MENTIONED MADE THE PLAYOFFS LAST YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!

LMAO….They dont have holes like us there is no urgency to fill any certain spot on there team!!!

        OMG…comical lol

        • only exception Phils whom missed out due to injuries

        • See I totally disagree with you. Teams that made the playoffs having holes is an issue… if you want to repeat you need to fill those holes, you don’t just rely on the past

The Yankees need a 3B now, they probably need another SP and they need a C
The Rangers are currently without 43HR 128 RBI
The Braves CF overall production is declined, plus 3B, plus they lost their 3rd best starter

Those 3 teams right now snuck into the playoffs. The Yanks by 2 games, the Rangers and Braves had to play in a playoff… to be “worse” right now than they were in 2012 is not a good thing for them.

The point is, nobody has really started to make big urgent moves yet

          • thank you Jessep. now I don’t have to write it.

          • When did I ever state having holes wasnt an issue???

What I said was we have MANY holes at numerous positions we should have more of an urgency to fill them…

We dont have any type of Core…There is David Wright then question marks all around the infield and Outfield….The rotation is the only set group that needs minor tinkering….. those playoff teams have core players already locked in all they need to do is add complimentary players…

Players whom they sign as complimentary would be the nucleus of our team.

All this patient talk will lead up to is Sandy saying for the 3rd straight year. That free agents this year were too expensive and they got payed more than we thought they were worth and we werent willing to invest that much. And i would be super surprised if he could fill all these holes with trades…

Who is he gonna trade Dickey, a young Niese and prospects???? I thought we were rebuilding with prospects?

          • Jessep, You are a true Sandy apologist

They snuck in the playoffs lol hogwash we didnt even sniff the playoffs….we couldnt barely sneak over .500 now youre telling me there in as bad a spot as us???

            Ha!

            • In order- tell me who has the most to least pressure to win a title in 2013?

              Yankees/Mets/Rangers/Braves

If you put the Mets anywhere on the list but 4th you’re lost

  • Metsblog is saying Mets are “working on a number of deals for RA Dickey, but also working on a trade for an outfielder that doesn’t include dealing Dickey”…this from Lennon of Newsday. And “Lennon says that with the added payroll flexibility…” (Wright / Bay)…”the Mets feel they can add pieces and be around 105 – 110mm in 2013.”

  • Technically…

    Giants reupped Pagan and Affeldt.
    Yanks reupped Kuroda
    Rangers just signed Soria

    Offseason’s far from over, folks.

To be perfectly honest, judging by what some of these guys got, I would rather the Mets not go after the “Top Tier” free agents this season. Believe me I want improve this roster more than anyone but guys like Napoli getting $39 mill for 3 years, Victorino $39 mil for 3 years and Angel 4 years $40 mil is insane!!! At that rate Hambone is worth $100 mil per year.

I’m sorry but this crop of FA’s is weak and EXTREMELY overpaid

    • “like”.

But this is New York. shouldn’t we overspend on everybody? ya know, because this is New York.

      • Apparently thats what the Mets are telling Mets fans with Ticket prices, food and parking…..

This is NEW YORK you have to OVERPAY to watch Triple A baseball in Citi Field….lol….and spend $10 inside Citi Field for a meatball subway sandwich that costs $5 right outside the building across the Street smh,…

    • The price will never come down it will only go up year to year

      • Exactly. This is only going one direction. You will overpay of you won’t sign free agents.

  • Do you guys think there actually is a “plan”?

    • There might be a plan. It’s not like every other team broadasts exactly what they want to do (except the royals)

      • Well, the only reason the Royals are vocal is because they’re under pressure to be relevant this season.

  • I think that Sandy has a plan and I’d bet it’s a good one. It’s probably not rocket science to figure out either. Here’s to making the play-offs in 2014! The Mets will likely have the best pitching staff in the league by then. I’ve been a fan for a long time and I can wait.

    • Of course he has a plan. If people would take their heads outta their asses they would realize that there is a plan and he’s not going to send out a memo to the public about it. It’s pretty obvious what the plan is. I’ll give a hint. Expiring contracts on the horizon, player developement. Actually that’s 2.

  • The plan=Selling high for top shelf guys that will make an impact and surround guys like Davis, Wright, and Tejada. Hence, the talks for Myers.

  • Cool uniform. Although I’d like it better without the white lacing on the cap.

    • I was thinking the same thing…that hat is incredibly hot even with the raised embroidery and white trim.

No clue why it took them so long to come out with a color scheme like this

      • I love them. Also, I still don’t get the branding. In some places, “Mets” still has a shadow but in others it doesn’t. Take a look at the background behind Wright.

  • Well… Wilpon has stated in 2014,the payroll is increasing,so this “plan” is true. What will it come to? Who honestly knows.

  • Poor David Wright(RICH bank wise)…….

Wilpons will be using him as a Shield for the Debris when fans start going ape shhhh…feces next year

In this pic it looks like the propped him up there like the “Manchurian Candidate”

  • And this article/post was about what now?
It got lost in the personal recriminations, insults, get lost posts, personal attacks!

What does this have to do with Wrights press conference today?

I think the Mets getting power in OF or C was mentioned but watching what Giants did to win 2 of 3 last WS they won it with hitters that put the ball in play while all the other teams are trying to hit the ball out of the park.
Look at what happened to Yanks against Detroit and then to Detroit against Giants.

The winning WS team put the ball in play while hitting for power if possible but I can’t remember the last team to lead league or baseball in HR won the WS?

As we all know the pitching gets better in playoffs so each team has a choice to try and get a hit while cutting down on swing or continue to swing for the fences and swing and miss a lot, as shown in the playoffs this year, Yanks, Detroit, Rangers, Orioles, etc.

I hope Mets FO takes into account that finding a power is important for OF, RH especially but to check to see if player is a contact hitter, high avg of batted balls in play.

Not being able to play small ball hurt a lot of playoff teams so I hope Mets can find the balance in whomever they either trade for or sign because as great a signing/trade that might happen if that player flops in playoffs then the wolves will be out to blame all. :)

Glad to have you retire as a Met David, thanks for structuring your contract to allow Mets to add payroll to win, now lets just pray that this FO can take advantage of this opportunity.

    Yeah David!
