Problem Child: Valdespin Suspended For Insubordination

Jordany Valdespin had a two-week absence from playing for his winter-ball club in the Dominican Republic because of a team-imposed suspension for insubordination, two sources told ESPN New York.
The discipline issue was comparable to the maturity problems the Mets have experienced with Valdespin over the years, one source said.
Adam Rubin adds that it’s not beyond the realm of possibility for him to get traded this offseason, but that the problem is other teams are well aware of Valdespin’s behavioral track record.

If I read the reports right he was injured this past Sunday. The reported 2-week suspension occurred between the dates of Nov. 14 and Dec. 1.
You would be correct Mr. North Jersey. The injury does not explain the 14 games he missed before he hurt his ankle. But some people only see what they want to see and believe what they want to believe regardless of the facts.
Licey has yet to report Jordany Valdespin being suspended
as of right now we dont have any reason to believe Adam Rubin’s unnamed source isnt just an imaginary friend that always seems to target Met players for gossip.

This is just embarrassing.. Insoburdination???? My team is el licey, and i follow all the news regarding the team, i have not heard of such a thing at all.. Problem child??? Can you craig be less bias and specify why he’s a problem child? Has he been arrested? Has he hit women or something? Has he shown up a manager in from of everyone???
You guys need to be more proffesional at least when writing stuff, we all know you’re not and you’re doing this for the hell of it, but come on. Behavioral past record? Can you at least tell us what he’s done? This is why some of us use the race card etc in some of the arguments we have.

I Read the article and i too thought it was a joke, my point is how quickly something like this get posted without getting actual facts, laziness overall in part of the writer, who is known to be one the biggest flip floppers and bias sabermetricians in this blog. if you do not the history of the blog and some of us please don’t butt in, i suggest you keep your distance in terms of defending people here because you might look foolish!
What more facts do you want? Was he suspended or not? Has it not been reported in the past that JV has had issues in the minors because of discipline? What you want it overlooked because of his race?

Alex, I dont believe you understand after all these years how it works. Craig passed along what one of the top sports media outlets in the country, ESPN, reported on their site. If you want to lodge a protest do so with them. But stop calling out our writers who are only doing what I ask them to do which is to share any MLB or Mets related news that our readership would find useful. I also urge you to not harass other people who choose to comment here for what they choose to believe. This is not a blog, it’s a fan site, and all opinions are welcome. Nobody needs a membership card to post here. I already had to ban Bayonne last night for going postal on our writers and readers. I’m hoping to avoid that with you. Alex, again, I’m not picking on you or Bayonne. I don’t take sides. Not that it’s any of your business, but last night when I finally had access to internet, I deleted 8 comments from Donal and even one from Jessep.
I love the Mets and I love writing about them and commenting about them in the threads with all our readers. Now that my health only allows me a limited amount of time to do what I love, it sucks that 50% of that time has to be responding to emails from our readers who are offended by comments mostly made by you, Damaja and Bayonne. It sucks that instead of weighing in on some of these baseball rumors, I’m instead responding to you because you somehow think I am unfair.
I wish you could just stick to baseball at a baseball level. It’s when you attack everyone that gets all of you in trouble. You and Bayonne do nothing but attack. At one time you at least brought something to the table, but now it’s deteriorated to constant attacks on our friends at TRDM, our writers, and people who comment here.
You have lost your way and now seem incapable of have having a good dialog with anyone about anything related to the team.

Come on man, you know that won’t work right. It just makes you look bad. You guys do bring something to the table. However, it gets tired. I am realllllly bored with the Alderson debate, most of us know why he is here and are absolutely ready to talk about something else. But every comment section gets taken up by this same argument. Sometimes people need fresh perspective. Maybe it would be best just to take a break. Then when you come back maybe you’ll be more inclined to discuss other subjects and not feel that you are being personally baited. People have different opinions and they may like to discuss different aspects of the game. Alot of us have been on one board or another since the internet really got going. The Wilpons alone use to get most of the flak for bad signings and lack of spending. Now Alderson has taken the reigns. Debating about how bad someone is doesn’t help educate the younger fans. It has its place but things have become increasingly polarized here and I think it should be our job as even minded experienced fans to help bring things back into perspective and get back to having relevant discussions about more things than how much of a tool Alderson is. On the other hand I see your point Alex. I watch it all the time. People make inflamatory remarks towards you guys all the time. I think it is because they know you guys will hammer back. The trolls are making you guys trolls. Don’t stoop to their level. You guys are baseball smart and good debaters lets get back to discussing stuff about the game rather than each other.

Regardless of how much of JV’s reputation is earned or not, the bottom line is that at this stage of his career, coming into his age 25 season, he clearly lacks discipline in his game, specifically plate discipline. Baseball-wise, the bottom line is that he needs to be more selective at the plate in order to get both get better pitchers to hit and raise his OBP to best take advantage of his skills. It is amazing how tolerable someone’s attitude is when he has some speed, some pop, and he gets on base 38% of the time.
A lazy bum, who had to be disciplined twice in front of cameras during games last season. He has no control of his emotions and started jawing with Kirk Nieuwenhuis caught a fly in center that he thought was his ball. Hey ROOK anything the CF can get to is his. Know your place, Rook! Punch in the face? You are a drama queen, or just a bold face liar (Cole Hamels said David Wright is a choker), it wasn’t even close to that, you know it, but you want to make drama about Wright because of your blatant bias against the guy.

Go ahead and defend a guy that has had multiple reports about discipline issues in the minors and rookie season, while TRYING to dig dirt up on a 6 time All Star.

I get you like the guy and I do do too (I just don’t see the upside you do.) But he’s been tabbed with this in the past. Wally Backman has gone on record about him and wasn’t he the one who suspended (or hit him with an extended benching, really! What difference does it make?) Didn’t his teammates take offense to his attitude and not wearing the proper attire? I know that incident may seem petty to us but there is a team building concept to it. TC has called him out on more than one occasion. There are many things a player could do to become a problem child or undisciplined it doesn’t have to be as vile as hitting a woman or showing up a coach/manager in public. I thought the incident with Evan Langoria was hysterical but it may point out that he at times may overstep his bounds.
If it walks like a duck and quacks like duck…..it usually IS a duck. The pattern has been established here and the problem doesn’t seem to diminish as he gets older.

I get that you want to defend JV, a player you like but you loose ALL credibility when you make comments like that. Putting aside the fact you don’t like Wright, even putting JV in the same scope as him is a joke. But what is more important is the FACT that we all saw the incident you are speaking about and that could not have been further from the truth.
Alex,Since you brought it up, I have a completely hypothetical question for you. Whould you like a player who put up the exact same numbers as Wright and represented his team the same way as Wright if his name was say, Diego Fernandez, or David Ramirez?
Check Aramis Ramirez and get back at me… Sloat, one thing i’ll say is this, Carlos Beltran was a better player, citizen and role model than wright. yet fans in here killed beltran for all kinds of reason, Wright does the same and less than beltran has and somehow he gets praised. Again – what facts, you can’t tell the difference between fact and opinion, the other day you said Cole Hamels called David Wright a choke artist, and that never happened, he was actually the one baited on a radio program and said the TEAM, not David Wright, but TEAM that included your boys Beltran, Delgado, Reyes as well as Wright (and well as the rest of the roster) chocked the season.
You want to discuss Wright’s flaws, and there certainly are some, discuss, but stop with the lies and people will stop calling you a hater.
What an interesting string of comments. I’m kinda sad to see that Bay is gone. He was always good for a laugh. Alex, we aren’t in the clubhouse so who knows about anybody really. However, I do prefer that information be fact checked. If he hasn’t been suspended and the report is false then it does point to JV being pigeon holed. He has a reputation among the fanbase here for being a trouble maker, so did Lastings. Sometimes these reports are false and some times they only scratch the surface of a real issue. Oh, comparing the behavior of Valdespin and Wright was silly. Wright is a veteran who lost his cool with the manager JV is a kid who has yet to earn the right to be mouthy.
You can get away with just about anything in MLB attitude wise if you have the game to back it up. Spin however doesn’t have enough to overcome maturity/attitude/whatever issues.
And even if he was the next Joe Mc, he still would not bring enough to the table now to deserve a big role.

I agree with you that Beltran was a better player than Wright. It can’t be proven that he was a better “citizen” or “role model” as you put it. How do you even measure that? How do YOU personally know that? I measure them as players not as people. Your point about if Valdi did what Wright did he would have been killed. Correctly so in my book! Wright is a vet, Valdi is a rookie. Also I have to believe that acknowledging your dislike for Wright, even you have to agree that Wright has a bit more equity with management, the organization, the league, and the fans than Jordany Valdespin does, just a little, no?

but…Beltran’s a player who has modeled himself after Roberto Clemente in many ways..
