Mets See Kirk Nieuwenhuis As A Stopgap

kirk nieuwenhuis

Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, fielded some questions in his mailbag piece this morning. I thought his reply to a question about Kirk Nieuwenhuis was worth sharing. Will the Mets give Kirk Nieuwenhuis another chance at center field, or do you think they will pick up some reject from another team? Now that Andres Torres is back with the Giants and Anthony Gose was not included in the Dickey trade, it is becoming increasingly unlikely that [...]

Will Mets Challenge Marlins For Last Place?

giancarlo stanton

Hi everyone, I’ve been laying low since the season ended and mostly because we’ve had no moves to talk about. But things are certainly getting interesting now. I saw this post by Adam Rubin of ESPN that I thought I would share. He basically asks if the Mets now challenge the Marlins for last place with the loss of Dickey who won more than 25% of the Mets’ games last season. The R.A. Dickey trade obviously brightens [...]

Cy Gone: Reactions To Dickey Trade From The Locals

r.a. dickey

I’ll be posting reactions from the major media outlets as they begin to weigh in on the trade between the Mets and Blue Jays I tired making some calls to get some information on who the unknown prospect is that that the Mets are also including in the trade, but mum’s the word. But although all the pieces have yet to be confirmed, here are a few excerpts from this morning’s edition’s of the major papers. [...]

Sickels: Mets Top 20 Prospects, D’Arnaud Goes To The Head Of The Class

darnaud_travis640_640

John Sickels of Minor League Ball, has updated his Mets Top 20 Prospects for 2013, and assuming the trade goes through, look who jumps to the head of the class. Travis D’Arnaud, C, Grade A-:  Should be acquired from Jays in the R.A. Dickey trade. He’s not perfect, but D’Arnaud is either the best catching prospect in baseball or the second-best behind Mike Zunino. Could use a bit more polish with his throwing and his plate [...]

Twins Sign Mike Pelfrey

Washington Nationals v New York Mets

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the Twins have agreed to a one-year deal with right-hander Mike Pelfrey worth $4 million with the chance to earn $1.5 million more in incentives. So much for that theory… Pelfrey, 28, went 50-54 with a 4.36 ERA in parts of seven seasons with the Mets, but missed most of 2012 after undergoing Tommy John surgery in April. He is reportedly throwing well and is expected to be ready [...]

Mejia Will Most Likely Replace Dickey In Rotation

Phillies Mets Baseball

With the trade of R.A. Dickey just a day or two from becoming official, the Mets now have a significant vacancy in their rotation. Unless something changes, and it probably wont, Johan Santana and Jon Niese are the Mets best options for the number one spot in the rotation. But both have some concerns. The pressure will be on for both Matt Harvey and Dillon Gee to carry a bigger share of the load in [...]

Thoughts On The Trade, Emotions, Expectations…

dickey

The Mets and Blue Jays have agreed in principle to a trade which will send R.A. Dickey and Josh Thole to Toronto for their top prospect C Travis d’Arnaud, C John Buck and RHP Noah Syndergaard, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. Both teams will also include another minor leaguer, or the Blue Jays could reportedly add cash to the deal instead. Rosenthal says that Dickey and the Blue Jays now have until Tuesday at 2:00 pm ET to agree to a contract [...]

dickey tips cap

Updated by Joe D. at 12:30 PM Good news for anyone concerned about Travis d’Arnaud’s knee which he injured last June and resulted in missing the rest of the season. According to Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports, club sources have told him that the team have reviewed the medical records and are not concerned about the knee, saying “it’s fine”. Meanwhile, no new updates on the progress or what the hold-up is. Original post by Joe D. [...]

Mets Magic Moments: Mano A Mano Edition

robin ventura grand slam single

Earlier this morning, during a twitter exchange with my friend Michael Baron of MetsBlog, the name of Matt Franco came up, and of course you can’t mention Matty without recalling one of the most memorable at-bats in franchise history. With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Mariano Rivera on the mound, and two strikes on him, Franco lined a walk off single to right field to score Rickey Henderson and Edgardo Alfonzo and give the Mets a [...]

How The Mets Seduced And Swayed The Fanbase

A Marked Man: Dickey at the Mets Holiday Party.

The Mets haven’t done many things right in the last half decade, and God knows they’ve paid the price with plenty of bad press and a sorely tarnished image. Have no fear… I’m not about to resurrect all the bad memories of the last five years and point out every single thing that has gone horribly wrong. On the contrary, this post is about what the Wilpons have always been very good at… Whisper Campaigns – The [...]
