D071808032.JPG

The Philadelphia Phillies have acquired centerfielder and leadoff man Ben Revere from the Minnesota Twins according to Todd Zolecki of MLB.com. Danny Knobler of CBS Sports says that the Twins are getting right-hander Vance Worley in return. Revere gives the Phillies a big stolen base threat as well as a tremendous defender with outstanding range in center. The 24 year old has some nice upside and could develop into a quality addition for the Phillies in the years to come. He [...]

Winter Meetings Come To A Close, Alderson Heads Back To Flushing

"I asked for Wil Myers, Salvatore Perez and Alex Gordon for the Royals for Dickey, and they said no" "I'm not sure why, it seemed like a fair offer to me"

The 2012 Winter Meetings at Nashville, Tennessee have come to a close and with that Sandy Alderson and the Mets’ entourage are heading back to New York. Two months of the offseason are now gone, with just two months left to go before Mets Spring Training Camp opens in Port St. Lucie. Those significant and marked changes that we were told to expect this offseason have yet to materialize, but maybe the Mets have some things in [...]

Rule 5 Draft: Mets Select LHP Kyle Lobstein

rule 5 draft

Surprise, surprise, the Mets did select someone in the first round and passed in the second and third rounds… A total of 15 players were selected in the major league phase of the draft. Here are my thoughts I shared on Twitter… David Groveman says that the Mets may have selected this player for the Miami Marlins. So there might be a small trade coming involving Lobstein. Jonathan Mayo also says he could be moved [...]

Another View Of Why The Mets Are Unlikely To Trade R.A. Dickey

dickey

Readers of this blog and all of the other Mets-related sites have been speculating on what kind of return would make it worthwhile for the Mets to trade RA Dickey at the peak of his value. Some suggest one “super-prospect”.  Others suggest a package. I had my own thoughts that Dickey should bring back the kind of almost-major-leaguers-but still-prospects such as the Padres got for Mat Latos. But the more I think about it, I’m [...]

Rubin: Teams Asking For Zack Wheeler In Trade Discussions

zack wheeler

According to Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com, teams have been asking for Zack Wheeler virtually every time the Mets try to engage in any trade discussions. Rubin says that even when the Mets are discussing platoon or back up catchers, Wheeler’s name has come up. Are you Kidding me? These teams can’t be serious. If general managers are being that delusional, it’s no wonder why the Mets have been unable to make a trade so far [...]

Jason Bay Signs With Mariners

jason bay

The Mariners have agreed to terms with free-agent outfielder Jason Bay on a major-league contract and are close to finalizing, reports CBS Sports’s Jon Heyman. The deal is for one year and is expected to be worth less than $1MM, according to Greg Johns of MLB.com. Bay was released early last month by the Mets with $21 million remaining on his contract. His Seattle salary will be deducted from the Mets’ obligation to him. Seattle is as close to Canada as you [...]

Quotes From David Wright’s Press Conference

wright presser

“I knew this was where I wanted to be. It made the decision pretty easy. I think that my friends and family knew that putting this uniform on was important to me, start to finish.” “I never wanted to put a doubt in anyone’s mind that this is where I wanted to be. I never wanted to put another uniform on, and I’m happy I’m wearing this one. To me there was no thought of [...]

Jeff Wilpon Says Dickey And Mets Far Apart On Dollars

dickey tips cap

Updated Post 1:00 PM Jeff Wilpon told reporters today that R.A. Dickey and the Mets are still far apart on the overall value of a possible contract extension, and it’s possible they could go into next season with no new agreement. Dickey later told ESPN.com that he is hopeful a new deal can be worked out, but he understands that Sandy Alderson is paid to make the Mets better. Alderson later told MLB Network that he has [...]

Is Mets Financial Situation Better Than What’s Been Reported?

fred wilpon finger

Does the $138 million dollar Wright contract change your opinion on the Mets financial situation? Is it a sign that things are better than what is being reported? Ed Leyro – Things might be better, but until I see the Mets sign a big-time free agent instead of giving their money to players who were already here, I will have a modicum of doubt. XtreemIcon - No, that remains unchanged. I think after the Mets got off [...]

The Age Factor: Reason Mets Are Reluctant To Sign Dickey, Is Why Teams Are Reluctant To Trade For Him

ra dickey

If GM Sandy Alderson spent as much energy trying to sign R. A. Dickey as he has trying to trade him, the contract would be done by now. Alderson told reporters in Nashville he’s seeking a “difference maker,” for Dickey, which means a power-hitting outfielder, preferably from the right side. A difference maker, by definition, would mean a proven commodity, as Alderson said he’s seeking immediate help, not somebody the team will “hope” be a [...]
