Angels Likely To Trade An Outfielder, Mets May Be A Fit
Danny Knobbler of CBSSports.com is reporting via Twitter that the Angels are “very likely” to trade one of their outfielders now that Hamilton is in the fold. Here is Knobbler’s Tweet below. The Angels signing of Hamilton leaves them with a surplus of outfielders in Trout, Bourjos, Morales and Trumbo. That is five potential starters for just four spots if you include the DH spot. The Angels still would like to add another front-line starting pitcher due [...]

Dickey Now Top Pitcher Available On The Market, Rangers Still Interested
With Anibal Sanchez now agreeing to return to the Tigers, James Shields a member of the Royals, and Zack Greinke joining the Dodgers, Dickey is now the best available pitcher remaining. The top free agent pitchers still available are Shaun Marcum, Kyle Lohse and Edwin Jackson. Lohse is the best of the three, and has had a great run over the past few seasons. He is coming off his best season pitching to a 2.86 ERA and [...]

Signs Indicating R.A. Dickey Will Be Dealt
According to Ken Rosenthal, signs are pointing towards R.A. Dickey being traded, he reports via twitter. The Mets and Dickey’s inability to come to an agreement on a contract extension and that 1-year, $5 million deal for 2013 is beginning to look a lot more attractive to teams who missed out on the likes of Zack Greinke, James Shields and now Anibal Sanchez. The Mets are currently at a standstill with R.A. Dickey on contract talks. Dickey [...]

An Undervalued Superstar
The baseball market is an interesting place, poisoned by the once outlandish claims of the Yankees and the overall change in player value these days. We fear giving players contracts for the short term in their old age, yet we will gladly sign stars well into their late thirties at ridiculous salaries to get them in their prime. I could go on about my issues with the way players are valued these days, but I [...]

Acosta-lypse Now Playing For Japan
According to his agent Gene Mato, former Mets reliever Manny Acosta has signed a one-year, $1.65 million contract with the Yomiuri Giants in Japan. The deal includes $500K in performance bonuses. The righthander was non-tendered by the Mets following a season that saw him post a 6.46 ERA and a 1.54 WHIP over 45 relief appearances. Acosta, 31, pitched parts of three seasons with the Mets totaling a 4.37 ERA in 131 appearances all in relief. Sayonara, Manny.

Angels Not Interested In Dickey, Not Looking To Deal Trumbo
Update 3:20 PM In fact have been told #Angels aren/t 1 of teams currently trying to obtain Dickey. So guess we could stop Bourjos or Trumbo thoughts. #Mets — Joel Sherman (@Joelsherman1) December 13, 2012 Other teams asked about Mark Trumbo, and been told that he’s not available; the Angels have said they are keeping him. — Buster Olney (@Buster_ESPN) December 13, 2012 Well then… It should also be known that the Red Sox have [...]

Sandy Alderson Is The Great Pretender
I’m so fed up with this lingering R.A. Dickey situation. Make a decision one way or the other and move on already. Sandy Alderson says a lot of things, most of which end up ringing hollow or untrue. You just never know what to believe with him, and he never answers any questions directly. He speaks with an eloquent vagueness that is mesmerizing to the masses. That said, I sincerely hope he was dead serious [...]

Andres Torres Agrees To Deal With Giants
Andrew Baggarly of CSN Bay Area is reporting that Andres Torres is heading back to the San Francisco Giants and that the two sides have agreed on a one-year deal pending a physical. Torres rejoins the Giants as a fourth outfielder after starting in centerfield for them from 2009-11 before they traded him to the Mets for Angel Pagan last offseason. Torres posted a slash of .230/.327/.337 for the Mets in 2012 and was non-tendered last month.

From Left Field: Why All The Hype About Mike Olt?
Just in case you haven’t noticed, the Mets signed David Wright to an eight-year contract extension. Also a friendly reminder, David Wright is a third baseman. The Mets also have a guy named Ike Davis, who despite a slow start in 2012 managed to club 32 home runs. Davis plays first base and is just 25 years old just so you know. Of course, as Mets fan, you know all this information through and through. [...]

Talk Of Mets Dealing Niese Absurd
Anybody who believes the Mets are serious about trading Jon Niese is either: a) nuts, b) misinformed, c) clueless, or d) all of the above. I’ve heard reports the Mets will trade either R.A. Dickey or Niese in their effort to acquire a power-hitting outfielder. They seem almost desperate in their attempts to trade Dickey, but Niese isn’t going anywhere for a multitude of reasons. Although Niese’s career high is 13 victories, he’s more potential [...]

Where’s The Fun In Fiscal Restraint?
I take no credit for that title… In truth I swiped it from a post I read on ESPN last week. No biggie, they won’t even know it’s gone, plus it’s the season of giving (and taking). So… You know, the Dodgers had their own Annual Holiday Party yesterday at Dodger Stadium – only it was a whole lot different than the bash the Mets held on Tuesday. The only things GM Ned Colletti could [...]
