Nathan, again, i get the whole pick your fights, but why is it that people get in fight with us never are brought to light as we do? Instead of going to joe d to bother him, we usually decide to fight back and i have NOW realized that's been a mistake, because when we do those people go to him and complain about it and guess who end up getting called out and at times ban from here? Yep, you guess it, US!

Problem i have is why joe d doesn't ban you for your behavior when it's obvious you bring 0 baseball knowledge of baseball nor any conversation about it, yet all you do is come in here to bait people, and then someone like bayonne who at times do crosses the line but it's very good to talk baseball with gets ban.

Joe D, your problem was to send jesseP to say anything to anybody here let alone bayonne you knowing the history of problem jesseP has created for everyone here. He's nothing but a liar, a snake and somebody not trustworthy. Was there a need to actually reach out to you just to ask a question about something that might or might've not happen 3 years ago? Again, i get you don't like bayonne and has a history, but i wonder when will be the day others start getting the same treatment in here. or that doesn't apply if you become a "Writer" for the blog? Seriously, this was a conversation about metro and bay, and of course, the snake seized the opp to butt in because he knew exactly where this was gonna lead to, and god knows what he said to you, but as usual, you believe in him just like when you somehow appointed him to be the clean up guy in the shoutbox when he was the biggest instigator and baiter in the chat room.

Metro12, first of all, the reason you would never find anything on this subject or any quotes from me is because I never wrote any such thing.

About three years ago when we had the chat room on our site, I happened to pass along some info from a college buddy who now works as Media Relations Director for another MLB team on the west coast.

It was just a rumor that he heard concerning Wright, but he himself was basically asking me if I knew anything about it, and I told him I didn't.

A day or two later, during a late night chat in our ShoutBox, I mentioned the exchange I had during a discussion that was about how trim and toned Wright looked when he reported to spring training. That was that.

To see this brought up after three years and inn the context that I reported this as news, is far from accurate. I do not post things on the site based solely on the strength of a flimsy rumor. I hear rumors from my friends who work in MLB all the time. Sometimes it's credible and I run with it, but 90% of the time if I cant find a second source to confirm, I file it under useless information.

When Jessep emailed me while I was at the hospital, I told him to post what he did because I was unable to reply myself.

I hope that clears things up.

Mitch, from what I know, HGH is not a way to build muscle mass. Only anabolic steroids (with or without HGH) can do that in conjunction with weight training. And since MLB has had stringent steroids testing since around 2005, I doubt anyone is on that for any significant period of time without getting caught. Therefore, this idle speculation that a supposed drop in weight in the Spring of 2009 is indicative of having come off of PEDs I find highly specious. It just doesn't hold water given that Wright was tested for steroids in prior years ... and HGH alone doesn't build muscle mass. So if he did lose weight (and frankly I didn't notice it) then it was due to something else.

And forget about getting sued. It would simply make someone look pretty stupid (like Murray Chass) to go around pointing fingers at players based on such flimsy evidence as weight loss and back acne. Even a big and sudden bump in stats isn't enough -- unless it comes when a player is way over the hill. You need more than that ... much more ... to accuse someone.

Are there MLB players doing steroids today? I would say if so, it is exceedingly rare, and that player is knowingly taking a huge risk and probably jumping through hoops in attempting to evade the testers. Wright is not the type of person who would take this type of risk. Especially given his family background. He built his reputation on being a straight arrow and goody two shoes, So he more than most would look like the biggest hypocrite in the world if he ever got caught doing PEDs. I'd say he is no more likely to have done PEDs than Jeter or Mariano Rivera.

I don't know where all the talk about Joe D or anyone accusing David Wright about using HGH started, and I have never witnessed anyone talk about David Wright and any type of PED on this site...but I do have to say I remember that there was some speculation when David Wright came into spring training very slimmed down a few years ago questioning why he seemed to slim down so drastically. It was more like a oh crap, I hope the reason he didn't lose all that weight was because he was on something and stopped using. Some people want to take it a step further and question why his power numbers have seemed to dip the past few years - they forget it was because citi field was the place where home runs went to die and the fact that he has nobody hitting behind him of the lineup that brings a serious threat allowing pitchers to pitch around him. You put a legit cleanup hitter behind David Wright, and he probably goes back to hitting 30hr per year (no Ike Davis is not a legit cleanup hitter). You won't find any published articles about it because nobody wants to lose their jobs or get sued for linking his weight loss to any type of PED usage when there isn't an ounce of evidence pointing to it. I don't think anyone is crazy enough to do anything like that. The problem we face in baseball these days is a form of paranoia created from the steroid era - unfortunately any time a player loses muscle mass quickly, or gains muscle mass quickly, there will be doubts about how and why it happened. It's just the nature of the beast now. It's not fair to the players who work hard, but it seems like even the players today are still feeling the effects for the mistakes of players in the past - and it doesn't help that players still test positive these days for stuff.

It’s not fair to the players who work hard, but it seems like even the players today are still feeling the effects for the mistakes of players in the past – and it doesn’t help that players still test positive these days for stuff.

"Personally I feel Wright has more tools than Reyes"

I do too...
Power trumps speed and OBP in my book everyday!

Reyes may score 100 Runs for you but he doesn't score any if the guy behind him doesn't have those 100RBI to drive him in.

Which is why I also make the argument about OBP and RS....
Only 23% of OB actually scores but the guy who drives him in can make that percentage go up much faster than the guy who gets on more often. 100 RBI guys not only drive in 100 Runs but how much extra do you get when they get on and someone else drives them in?

It's nice to have both though....

Power Hitters don't usually lose thier power. You don't get weaker as you get near the age of 40 what happens is you stop seeing the ball as good or they figure out the hole by then but if they can stay sharp and in decent MLB shape, avoid getting hurt they can keep on hitting dingers until they retire....

In this regard yourt correct that you can't say that about Reyes or any speedster.

Personally I feel Wright has more tools than Reyes, so his regression will be less of an impact. Reyes was doing things that I haven't seen since Rickey Henderson. When he got on base in that first AB, we all knew he was going to steal and get that run. Those moments immediately brought the momentum to the Mets side. When you start taking those things awaydue to speed regression, Reyes's value can be obtained for a much smaller cost else where. With Tejada, I didn't think he was going to be that serviceable, it was a nice surprise and we will see where he is next year (relly impressed with his attitude as well). And you are correct, there is no one to replace Wright any where in the organization. So when you take his defense into account (Reyes was fine here as well) his ability to hit to right field so comfortably, his base running along with all the other Mets ambassador blah blah blah, to me it made more sense to sign him then Reyes.

I never said he was worth it but thats mostly because I feel NO player when you come right down to it is worth that kind of money...

No player can ever contribute the same percentage that his salary represents on total payroll unless your payroll is sky high to start with....

And in the end you don't get more all you get is the highest you can get a WS win and then it's all about can you get it again.

But when considering it...
Is a loss of Speed from Reyes really any worse than a loss of power or BA from Wright at the end of the day?

A guy who is REALLY fast once declined has average speed compared to younger players because what he lost makes him merely mortal.
And by the time of the end of that contract you will find that those average speed players are all making about what the now average declined speedster does on a per year basis....

So while you might risk not getting everything you think your paying for now in the end it all evens out because prices only go up and you pay the same for less than what you pay for more now.

In Reyes' case you can at least argue you kept the Reyes BA and lost the speed for a discount in Tejada....

If we had someone who could do something similar for Wright and Dickey ready to go as Tejada was then I might be more inclined to have traded instead of signed.

But we don't have even close to that ready and waiting in the wings. Flores comes close but he isn't ready and Wheeler and Harvey have a lot to prove before you can start thinking either will be a 20 game winner in the next 3 years.
