howell is an interesting option if he is really in that price range. wonder why he is still around? Just overlooked, or GMs worried about the shoulder holding up?

The reimold guy (and there are probably quite a few similar players) could be a good example of why I don’t like giving a ross or Hairston a big, longer term deal. Better to get the next one cheap than get stuck with the last one paying for a career year they won’t have again.

I do think the Mets should go after Howell because he is a piece that fits over the next three years. Of course if his price gets to high then no.Reimold would be a nice player to take a shot on.

I don’t want someone like Bourn or any other Philly/Yankee/Brave’s free agent / cast-off. I think his agent is the scourge of baseball and would never settle for what he’s truly worth.

Nolan Reimold is the kind of guy I was hoping to hear mentioned in terms of blocked or off the scrap heap. Someone mentioned the Cuban, Dariel Alvarez, and he seems interesting enough to give a shot, even with the crazy contract demands they require for an unproven player.

Thanks for the analysis Jesse. I welcome any other level-headed folks (as in NOT “pie-in-the-sky” let’s get a superstar for C-level prospects) to address the scrap heap/blocked AAA outfielder discussion. Judging his more recent actions, I think SA is looking at alternatives to the regular FAs.
