If the prospect offers are sub par and Dickeys price tag is too high(which I highly doubt) then I hold onto Dickey til Mid season then re-enter trade-ville mid season. Teams in the playoff hunt put less value on prospects then…theyre not gonna punt a playoff birth due to a prospect ortwo…I cant imagine anyone not being able to move Dickey for a decent return that will help us in the near future.

To be honest Ellsburys injury history scares me….also the Boston to Mets jinx…Bayfever

Not really, but as much as I like Ellsbury, he is injury prone and had one great year, so Boras will work from that point.
How do you like proposed Dodger deal with Gordon and pitcher? We could use him in CF or then trade him for an outfielder.

I think the Mets shouldve went aggressively after Geovanny Soto. I saw him as a steal for what Texas gave him…due to his upside of course he reminds me of when the Yankees outbid us for Russel Martin a couple yrs ago…Good catcher coming off down years

Well BBL, 5 at 13M a year puts you awfully close to that 5/75.

I agree that it would be short term with Ellsbury and Salty, I guess my point is what if the Mets don’t like the prospect offers nor the price for Dickey?

The only reason I wouldnt do that deal is because Ellsbury is a free agent after this year w/Scott Boras as his agent. And he would want to test the open market and Team Sandy doesnt do bidding.

FYI If someone pays Bourne 5yrs $75M I’ll eat my hat that would be nuts…IMO BJ Upton is a better player because he provides some power…I think Bourne will get a deal similar to Victorino but more years…SMH@Victorinos deal didnt see that coming….with all the saving the mets have been doing I and other Mets fans are far removed from what players are worth these days

I am guessing that was in response to my trade for Ellsbury. I was going on the premise that the Mets don’t like A or B that I mentioned earlier. Would they then be better off trying to fill 2 holes with Dickey and then let the chips fall for the next year?

Why because in trade the demands appear to be WAY too high. Seriously, look at JP’s stats. He’s worth Dickey? Heck even some mentioning him for Niese? That D’A is basically untouchable and would take Niese +++, that Salty is even going to require top pieces? The catching market is way skewed and that is why I think they are better off just getting a veteran backup and develop their own. I think there is more opportunity to find a good deal for an OF right now than a C.

Why would you be terrified to overpay for a catcher…….we already are. Get one with some pop and move the one we are overpaying with the pitcher he catches (IMO the only reason he wasn’t DFA). You hear teams are weary of RA because they don’t have a catcher for him. If RA goes Thole goes with him as a throw in.

Ellsbury would be a one year deal because If he does well Boras WILL take him to Free Agency. I don’t think we have what Boston wants anyway.

Good point, I am not sure why they acquired him or why the Marlins gave him up if they didn’t want him to start with though. I am just terrified they are going to overpay for a catcher. Especially JP.

Well if he is slightly higher and than Bourne and Bourne is seeking 5/75ish++ then how much is Ellsbury worth?

I read where E. Bonafacio is available. If we are trading with Toronto for a catcher, I would want to try and have him included in the trade. CF and leadoff spot would be taken care of.

As far as Ellsbury goes he is a good player but over-rated IMO….He skillset is similar to Michael Bourne’s although I’d rank him a couple notches above Bourne, if only he could just stay healthy.

Ellsbury has only hit over 9HR’s “ONCE IN HIS ENTIRE CAREER”….. and thats INCLUDING his 5 years in the minors

With that said he is a top notch CF/leadoff man if only he could stay healthy….That 1 season clouds peoples brain when his name comes up

Ludwick was on the Mets’ radar, since they desperately need righty-hitting outfield bats. So why did the Mets not go to that level of bidding?

One team insider said that PRICE IS TOO STEEP for that caliber of player, and it’s almost FORTUNATE the Mets DO NOT HAVE MONEY TO SPEND IF that’s the MARKET PRICE. Another team insider said that was Ludwick’s price to remain in Cincinnati and it would have been higher to head to New York.

Ellsbury is very interesting, but he had a poor last 2-months after coming offthe DL. i think it’ll take more than Jacoby to get RA.
