Mets Leave Dickey Out Of 2012 Highlights Video

dickey

R.A. Dickey’s Cy Young Award and 20 wins don’t count as  highlights as far as the official Mets 2012 Highlights video is concerned. That is how Andy Martino of the Daily News puts it

In a video posted this week on the Mets official website, and emailed to fans, the team sent along holiday wishes, and presented a brief montage of highlights from the 2012 season.

It was all there, from Johan Santana’s June 1 no-hitter, to Ike Davis’ career-high 32 home runs, to David Wright passing Ed Kranepool for the team lead in career hits. That about covered it, right? Nothing else of note happened this year at Citi Field, after all.

Wait, what? Somebody won 20 games, and became the first Met to capture a Cy Young Award since Frank Viola? In 2012? And then he was traded to Toronto for top prospects? Are you sure?

This is a cheap shot and a 2012 Mets Highlights video that doesn’t include any of Dickey’s many thrilling moments doesn’t just insult Dickey, it insults all of us. It’s like reading a great book with all the best chapters torn out. It belongs in the trash.

Terrible job by the Mets…

  • I’m not sure they are allowed to use him for marketing purposes because he is no longer on the team.

    • Reyes was in last year’s highlights video. And Hairston is in this one.

  • Who cares? He had a good season. He got traded. We got everything we could have gotten out of him. He isn’t a god. He plays baseball. Boo hoo if he got left out of a highlight video that most people aren’t going to see.

    • I’ll never understand how some of you still support Wilpon after all we’ve been through. I just don’t get you Wilpon lovers, I never will. And where’s your fandom? Enjoy your bogus highlight video. What else can I say.

      • I hardly LOVE the Wilpons. I wish every plane and every car they get a ride in would crash and explode. I just could care less about a trivial highlight video.

        • You wish death on people because of a bunch of grown men playing with a ball?

    • Yes, he plays baseball. And the team he played for this year put a highlight video of their guys playing baseball. You do know what a highlight video is, right?

  • See no Dickey.

    Hear not of Dickey.

    Speak not of Dickey.

  • Anyone Alderson exiles is hated, any crap he signs is loved. He has 90% of the fans brainwashed.

    • I see right though Sandy Auctioneer. Rebuilding or not, fans should demand a better team than this for $60 tickets.

  • Wow, that’s pretty low even by Mets standards. They wont see me at any games next season, the main attraction is gone. I’ll root from my living room.

    • WHOA!!!!! WHAT???? WHEN???? When did the Mets EVER have STANDARDS?!?!??!!?

  • So if you’re right and the Mets never wanted Dickey back, why was Reyes in last year’s video, someone who to this day fans swear was never wanted back? There’s something else to it.

    • Because the Wilpons hate Dickey. He was outspoken, refused to cancel climb to Kilimanjaro, said non action at trade deadline was like cutting out the team’s heart, called Beltran trade a punch in the gut and that front office wasnt interested in winning, etc.

      • Fair enough. But Dickey himself said that his chats with Alderson convinced him the Mets had a plan he endorsed. Isn’t it hypocritical of him supposing that the front office wasn’t interested in winning?

        • The Beltran comment was in 2011, and the cut team’s heart out comment was at trade deadline in 2012 right after Alderson announced they were not buyers. The only reason they shared a plan with Dickey is because he went to the hotel in Nashville, uninvited mind you, and rather then negotiate with him which they told him they wouldn’t do, they chit chatted about the plan. The next day his agent showed up to talk dollars.

          • As you pointed out above Joe, if you call your employer out enough times, they will probably do whatever it takes to see you are no longer employed. If R.A. Is longer feeling the love of his employer, he may have to look in the mirror for the culprit.

            • Well the Wilpons never had the stomach for strong-willed and opinionated players. Oppose them once and you’re part of their whisper attacks and soon gone. Tick them off royally and they wont even wait until the end of the season. Foster, Dykstra, Mitchell, Kent, Cone, Hundley, LoDuca, Wagner, Beltran, etc. The Wilpons are the original Puppet Masters.

              • I don’t disagree that the Wilpons often screw things up…but that’s a pretty questionable list there.

I wouldn’t characterize Beltran as “strong willed and opinionated”. Yes they did have those public battles with the surgery/veteran hospital and the Wilpons were idiots for how they handled it both times…but it had little to do with him being traded. And if it did, well then there is some benefit to it…worked out much better than keeping him until the end of the year and letting him walk via FA like they did w/ Reyes.

And as for the others on your list….Kent was here for years, was nothing special and got included in a deal for a pretty big name player at the time (though Baerga flopped). He was hardly run out of town. And the Hundley stuff was pure-BV. And if he was run out of town…that wasn’t Wilpons doing…Doubleday was the one who pushed for the Mets to trade for Piazza….which then led to Hundley’s departure. Wagner wasn’t really forced out either. He got hurt and the Mets got someone to replace him. And LoDuca was lousy his last year as a Met….so they let him go. He was done….only played about 60 gms the rest of his career

                • You can be strong-willed and opinionated…but also quiet and reserved….I think Beltran is very strong-willed and def opinionated, he just doesnt talk to reporters all the time

              • Foster? He was released in 86 after a number of under performing years and was at the end of his rope. That is like saying Bay was released for being outspoken, Even if Foster was outspoken, if he was hitting 40+ HRs like in Cincinnati, then he would have remained.

                • Actually – Foster was not well liked by either the manager or his teammates.

He stayed on the bench when all his teammates were involved in one of the biggest Mets brawls that started when Ray Knight put a hard tag on Eric Davis.

He couldn’t hit and Davy Johnson decided to start kevin Mitchell over him. Foster was angry over the demotion and told the pressit was a racially motivated decsion (unusual considering that Mitchell was also African American).

For those of you who remember – Foster would say innapropriate things all the time.

Really don’t understand the Bay comparison.

                • “if he was hitting 40+ HRs like in Cincinnati, then he would have remained.”

Yeah! Just like Strawberry….. who was hitting about 38 HR’s a yr REMAINED…..Oh wait they let him walk because they didnt wanna pay him…..Ooops ;)

      • OK, for the record, Dickey’s statements were not that inflammatory. People who write for newspapers and blogs ran with what he said and added quite a few layers to them.

  • I am not insulted at all. This is another non story. People need to cut the faux outrage…and if you really are outraged by a little holiday highlight video you need to chill out. He’s not on the team anymore…it doesn’t seem that crazy for a Blue Jay to not be in the Mets holiday video. If he was in the video people would complain about that too. I can see it now “LOLMets send out a holiday video starring a guy no longer on the team”. And though it is always fun and easy to blame the Wilpons…if I wanted to build up some faux outrage and pretend to care about the stupid video, I don’t know if I’d assume the Wilpons pay attention to any of that stuff. Maybe they do, but i wouldnt be surprised if its just some intern who made the video without much official guidance. Either way this is really a non issue IMO

    • Nobody had a problem with Reyes being in it last year. And it’s not fake outrage, maybe it doesn’t bother you, but it sure as hell bothers me. I’m sick of the Wilpons and their devious and manipulative underhanded ways. And there’s nothing false about that. This wasn’t a 2013 preview video, maybe you don’t understand the concept or difference between a highlight video and a preview video.

      • Joe -

It’s not just the Wilpons but a whole team philosphy. They are in a bubble right now. The team needs new blood in ownership and front office. And, looking at the attendance figures of late – it may happen sooner than you think.

        • I agree 100% with you.

          • Joe, I think there’s more to it that’s not being covered by the press.

I believe that the Madoff scandal has traumatized Fred …And it had to – my god – a good trusting friend in Bernie. His financial mentor – all blown up – with a life sentence and two suicides. and he has to have lost confidence in his decision making which is why Selig got Sandy Alderson to come in to get the finances in order.

And Jeff – a first generation rich kid who was banished from any decision making after the whole Zambrano fiasco – only to come back in charge of overseeing the construction Citi field which neutered their best hitter in Wright. He probably means well but doesn’t have the life experience to make objective decisions.

Sandy was finished as a GM until called upon by Bud to “saved the franchise” – again probably a good baseball solider tasked to do the wrong thing at the wrong time in the wrong place.

The Mets will get better – but it will be despite what’s going on not because of it.

        • I can only dream we’ll have new ownership sooner rather than later.

Anyone reading here often enough knows how I feel about the Wilpons.
But come on….what’s up with the PR office? Purposely leaving out RA Dickey?
Beyond poor, beyond classless. The Wilpons can only hope to ever have as much class as RA.

  • I just have to ask and this would be a great poll for MMO….

Of all the folks who have gushed about this trade we made….

How many are lining up to buy Season Tickets?

Cause if you think things are going well then you SHOULD support them for doing all that good you claim they are doing here shouldn’t you?

    • Supporting the trade and byuing season tickets have less than zero to do with each other.

      • If you support the moves the you should support the team for making them…
Especially if you ever hope to get those guys with all the Payroll Flexibility you have been talking about putting around these kids you been collecting….

Or is this really about you Like the MONEYBALL you just refuse to pay to see it like the rest of us who DON’T like it and say so?

If you really feel these are all the right moves and the team is moving in the proper direction then you SHOULD go see them to show them how you feel….

But I guess your not really ready to put your money where your mouths have been the past three years are you?

        • “If you support the moves the you should support the team for making them…”

And the only way to do that is by purchasing season tickets? That’s beyond ridiculous and absurd.

          • Makes a l more sense than buying single game tickets and paying more per game doesn’t it?

Come On now you are one of the guys so concerned about money being spent you know it’s cheaper to buy a Package than single game seats…..

But if you REALLY wanted to support the team YES you should buy Season Tickets….

I had them for 14 years and I got an 86 World Series for my support.

Sat through Joe Torre to boot….

            • So the fact that I live 100 miles away from Flushing and can’t afford 81 games means I’m less of a fan?

You had season tickets for only 14 years? Mets have been around for over 50. So I guess you’re not a real fan, either.

              • Who said anything about 81 games?

100 Miles away is a short 2 Hour Drive dude it’s not like your accross the country….

Even a Sunday plan would help them….

And lets face facts thats 14 more years of season tickets than you have ever bought….
I paid for your 86 World Series time for you to pay for the next one!

                • YOU said 81 games!

“How many are lining up to buy Season Tickets?”

I’m stopping this before it starts. Before you start telling me I need reading comprehension classes or whatever. You clearly said “season tickets.”

Did you mean a partial ticket pack? Then I accept your forthcoming aplogy for not being clear. Yes, I purchase partial ticket packs every year and will do so again this year. I also buy single game tickets based on opponent, promotion and just time to get together with friends.

Everyone supports the Mets their own way. I feel lucky and fortunate I can afford to go to any games at all. I know better and smarter fans than you who are unable to attend games due to various life circumstances. So to read your garbage about someone being less of a fan because they are unable to purchase game tickets is a horrendous senitment and says so much about you.

                  • Please point out to everyone here where the 8 and the 1 appear in the phrase you quoted….

You know this one….”"How many are lining up to buy Season Tickets?”

I’m not apologizing to an idiot who reads whatever he wants and places phantom numbers into statements made by others….

I suggest you drive those 100 Miles to a city doctor to check on those mirages you eep seeing and your inability to read correctly

                    • What a surprise, Metsie getting personal because he’s wrong and has nothing else to come back with.

                    • Ok why Don’t YOU out where the 8 and the 1 in that sentence of mine he quoted?

I got personal because he constantly reads things that aren’t there and then demands an apology for me saying something I didn’t say in the first place!

I know you Sand Peopl have to resort to that because your script isn’t flexible enough to deal with issues Alderson Avenue hasn’t written for you yet but it’s Quite rediculous that the rest of us should have to apologize for figments of your own imagination merely because your too poor at debating to take on what we REALLY say!

                    • You said season tickets dude. That means 81 games, whether the numbers 8 and 1 were in your post or not. Deal with it.

                    • Oh so the Sunday package isn’t considered season Tickets?

better contact the Mets they have those smaller packages listed as SEASON TICKET PLANS!

Face it CB you both got tooled by your own arrogance and inability to read what was said and your bad comprehension that puts it’s own meanings to anything said just dso you can attack the guy who said it….

You do it all the time!
its sad that you must resort to that to play your attacks on the posters you don’t like but simple minds must resort to the simple means of subterfuge I suppose….

                  • I’ll take that apology now thank you….
                    Your silence says volumes here….

                    • Sorry, it was my fault for assuming you meant season tickets when you said……”season tickets.” Go ahead and tell everyone who you DIDN’T say it. Can’t wait.

                    • Are 81 gam packages the ONLY season Tickets you can buy X?

                      Is it?

                    • Ya, that is pretty much the definition of “season tickets”. All 81 home games.

                • 100 miles is a short 2 hour drive?

Clearly you haven’t driven in NY or to Flushing in a long time ;)

                  • Hell I do it at least twice a week Kay….I Live 100 Miles away from the City and drive there at least 3 or 4 times a week cause thats where the TV Networks are!

Of course I’m a man and not as sensible a driver as you ladies tend to be….

(note: thats not a knock on lady drivers so don’t get your feathers ruffled)

            • “I had them for 14 years and I got an 86 World Series for my support.”

The 86 WS team…built by Frank Cashen using the same model Sandy Alderson is using of developing the minor league and establishing a core foundation. Once again history works against you.

But we all understand your anger trying to defend a position on here that is indefensible because it does not work. You would think a NYer like yourself would remember the Yankees of the 1980s and early 1990s buying up all the top FAs and being nothing more than a whipping post for teams like Boston and Toronto.

Thank you for validating everyone’s point.

              • Oh get over yourself…..

Cashen is not using the same model Alderson is…

Name Alderson’s Carter and Hernandez Equivilent?

Name the Cashen deals that would correspond to:
                Reyes leaving
                Beltran
                K-Rod
                Dickey

And no saying Mazzilli 4 times in a row is not acceptable!

                • Lets be honest, well I’ll be honest, the Hernandez trade was a gift with a big fat bow. The Cards wanted to rid themselves of Keith and the Mets were in the right place at the right time. The WS Champs don’t trade a MVP, Gold Glove 1B, for Neil Allen just because the Mets asked.

Gary Carter did join the Mets until after 1984 season – began his Mets career in the 5th year of Cashen as GM.

So no Alderson hasn’t had those same type acquisitions yet in third year.

                  • Yeah well has he traded for ANYONE who has actually seen a MLB roster other than Shoppach?

And the way some people around here are reacting Both the Beltran Trade and the Dickey Trade were wrapped in Bows if the hype on those trades are to be believed….

                  • The right place and right time mean nothing if you are not willing to put up the pieces necessary

Toronto saw the same opportunity in NY that NY saw in St. Louis with Keith.

as a matter of fact, this is the 2nd time Toronto has done this with us, we got Jeff Kent for Cone…

While Kent was a good player for us, we were a dysfunctional organization still reeling from the losses from the recent past.

Having Travis at catcher can be a great first move, but if we dont improve the defense in 4 different positions ( 3 OF + 2B )

                    Having Travis wont mean much

Sandy’s fascination with OBP and power at the expense of defense is really alarming.

This is the guy that refused to move Duda from RF even after Bay was injured most of the season.

                    That is damn near frightening

                  • “Lets be honest, well I’ll be honest, the Hernandez trade was a gift with a big fat bow. The Cards wanted to rid themselves of Keith and the Mets were in the right place at the right time. ”

Yes we can Thank Keith Hernandez’s raging “Cocaine” habit for the Cardinals pawning him off to us….Makes you think a Josh Hamilton signing wouldve brought us full circle with the 86 Mets another Drug addict star that stock was lowered by his drug habits…lol…

But in all seriousness if Alderson was using the Frank Cashen Method he’d try to acquire a buy low Star talent that is on the market….One player that jumps off the page is “Justin Upton”…and he desperately fills a need as well….And he is young….25yrs old same age as Ike Davis(actually younger than Ike by a few months) and 4 yrs younger than Keith Hernandez was when the Mets acquired him at age 29 mid season in 1983…..

    • I live in Suffolk, but I’ll be going to as many games as I’m able to, because I’m a Mets fan and not a front runner that only likes them when they’re winning like most people here.

Funny that of all the talk on here about ticket prices and boycotting and the Wilpons being thieves that don’t care about winning, if the Mets are somehow winning next year, ALL of you will be at Citi Field. It makes me sick.

      • Good for you CB and I really do mean that!

      • I hate the whole idea of boycotts. It’s silly and it doesn’t work.

        • The Wilpons arent going anywhere. Everyone needs to get that through their heads and stop with the nonsense.

        • It is usually just people pounding their chests. “Look at me! I’m doing something!”

        • Boycotts assume that the average fan is the same as the rabid fan…. life doesn’t work that way.

    • Citi Field is about 2 hours from my office and about 1 hour from my home…without traffic.

So, is it OK if I just stick to the weekend ticket packs? Does that meet with your approval?

  • LMAO …and so it begins…

i said it last week…watch as the mets continue their smear campaign via their PR Department, SNY + Metsblog…

    • Just shows how vindictive ths organization has become….
One thing to make a business based decision but these guys just smear anyone who seems to get in the way of thier plot….

      • they always have been like this though…

the one thing the wilpons have always been deathly afraid of ( IRONICALLY ) is negative feedback or criticism.

The ugly truth is that NYC has never been a good fit for Fred Wilpon. You cant be in one of the world’s most critical places with so many media folks, own a franchise, and be adverse to criticism.

        • “the one thing the wilpons have always been deathly afraid of ( IRONICALLY ) is negative feedback or criticism”
I’m actually counting on that JDD because it’s the mechanism that gets Sandy the Boot!

This trade might buy them some time in 2013 but once d’Arnaud gets up here and they still can’t get past .500 the screams for heads in the press due to lack of even trying will force the Wilpons to cut off yet another head to placate the villagers with the torches approaching the Castle.

          • Switching Sandy out for another figurehead is a lateral move at best.

Its like changing the president of your country while congress, Supreme Court and every other aspect of government is still corrupted with plutocrats.

Sandy can only do so much

The problem is Sandy has been doing a poor job at the little he can do

  • I dont have any problems with this.

Dickey was amazing last year, but he is gone.

  • Just finished watching Cloud Atlas (long film but worth it) and logged in to see if I missed anything and saw this.

I agree there should of been no reason to not include footage of Dickey. It would of been in better judgement and just overall more “classy” to include R.A. but for me this does not raise itself to the level of being offensive because the lack of video doesn’t erase what R.A. did as if it never happened. Dickey will be forever part of Mets history and a great part of those many Mets fans who watched him pitch memories.

Maybe there was some rift between ownership and R.A. I don’t know if the absence of him in a video is proof of this or some poor judgement on a marketing decision.

    • Just saw the video in question. After seeing it I still am of the opinion his omission didn’t raise itself to a level for me to find it offensive.

It’s about 60 seconds of video wishing Season’s Greeting & Happy Holidays from the Mets and well it is reasonable to not include R.A. since he is no longer a Met. The highlights included as reported the Santana No-Hitter Ike’s Grand Slam and Wright’s 1,419 career hit.

The past years the Mets have done a Season in Review video which (unless I missed it) I am still waiting to see the 2012 edition. I am expecting R.A. to be properly represented there. That is if they actually release one.

  • Keep doing this to us? I don’t care about that, its a video….so what. Was he part of the team and do something special? Sure but I’m not worried about some video where he isn’t highlighted. I’m worried about the Mets as a team going forward. No need to cry over this video

  • Joe – leaving Dickey out is pretty low, no doubt. Any chance that was requested by RA?

One question, the other day Martino is a hack for stalking a new Met for a month looking for dirt on one of the news guys, but now you quote him when it’s negative towards the Mets?

I’ll say it again, it was pretty low, but some how, I think there’s more to this then we know now, and I’m not relying on Andy Martino digging up whatever it is.

    • Well Martino didnt offer a reason why, he only was the first to report the Mets omitted him which I checked and they did.

On news, proper protocol is to link to source who first reports something and in this case it was him.

Interesting to note that since him and I posted about this last night, the highlights video is no longer on mets.com this morning and was taken down.

      http://newyork.mets.mlb.com/index.jsp?c_id=nym

      • I got the email, and glanced at, to tell you the truth I didn’t pay that much attention, but I did just go back reviewed it, and it’s clearly out and there has to be a reason.

Grand scheme of things it’s not important, ultimately it’s another blemish on the Wilpons.

Just anything that Martino reports, good or bad I always think there’s a backstory for his own benefit. I hate the fact that SNY gives him air time, and frankly little surprised. If he’s on Hot Stove, I fast forward. Cringe………….

        • Yeah, lol, we certainly agree on that. And he is awful on those SNY spots.

          • Hey Joe D

I just watched last nights Hot Stove on my DVR and the ended the show with highlights of 2012 (ok it was not much lol), and they certainly highlighted and included Dickey.

I think, once again, it’s Martino being a jerk, making a mountain out of a molehill, because he can.

      • Oh boy…they took it down already?

Again I ask….what’s up with the Mets PR department? They not only need new ownership, they need a new PR group as well.

Whoever said it above hit the nail on the head….ownership operates in a vacuum.
Heck, when Davidoff had no idea his negative article on Dickey would invoke that much backlash from Met fans, I have to assume the Wilpons are even more clueless. Even if they are, they have a FO who should know better. But….makes you wonder just who is running this circus?

  • You can still see the video if you use the link sent in the email.
I never watched it originally, I trashed it but just went through my trash and clicked on the link and the video played.

    • Yes, you’re right my email video works too. I guess they cant undo the ones in the email. LOL Only with the Mets do these silly petty things happen.

  • What real Met fan would watch that video and not notice Dickey’s glaring omission? Do the Wilpons think they could erase Dickey’s 2012 season by not including him? And did they think passionate Met fans wouldn’t notice it? How stupid can they get? Hope Dickey does well and starts the All Star game in Citi Field. That’ll fix their wagon. :-)

  • 2012 highlights without Dickey?
That must be a pretty short video.

  • Even if they had an issue with Dickey, this is just weird. Like we wouldn’t notice?

Is it possible that this was a case of incompetence rather than malice? Like they sent out an incomplete video? Hanlon’s Razor and all.

  • considering I honestly have no interest in ever watching the video – I truthfully do not care if it is a video involving Terry Collins sitting by a fire reading Twas the Night Before Christmas.

The only “highlight” video I’d ever watch is honestly one that involves a championship at the end.

I’m honestly not really sure why a 74-88 season’s “highlight video” is really worth anybody’s energy to get up in arms about. Slow news day I guess.

    • ummm…the fact that the “2012 highlight video” excludes the best player on the 2012 team isnt a head-scratcher to you?

      LMAO

      you are willfully ignorant

  • I am not quite sure what the problem is and who is the culprit. Obviously, the Wilpon’s (or one of them) had a problem with Dickey. I have no idea what the basis is for it. But for grown men to behave so petty and vindictive is asinine. Personally, I am going to bet Jeff is at the center of it. It is good to remember he is the one who oversees the marketing department. Is Fred one to hold petty grudges? I am not sure. Would Jeff? Seems likely.

Regardless, if there was a highlight video of 2012, RA Dickey absolutely should be included in there. It matters none that he was traded. His performance was the highpoint of the year. Perhaps it is time the Mets organization adopt a bit of class about how they behave. Jeffy boy needs to grow up or be neutered again.

  • Paranoia will destroy ya!

Mets announce they are officially going private on Twitter with a protected account. You cant just follow them with out them approving you. You cant comment to them unless you are approved. They say it’s so they could tun contests, but they’ve been running contests for years on Twitter.

They don’t want other fans to see the flack they get when they do stupid things like this video thing. Fred Claus is gonna decide who’s naughty or nice! lol

Checked like 6 teams to see if other teams are doing this, but I’d bet they are the only MLB team that did this.

Yankees are still open to all.

    https://twitter.com/Yankees

    Braves too.

    https://twitter.com/Braves

Joe you have the Mets paranoid!

  • So, Dickey is left out of the 2012 Mets highlights?
I’m guessing it must be a very short video. If I have 30 free seconds I’ll check it out

  • Winners win..(Steinbrenners) Losers lose (Wilpons). Hate the Yankees..Maybe i can root for the SF Giants.. Can’t stand following these clowns anymore..

  • Lets go Blue Jay!

  • I’m confused. Frank Viola won a cy young for the mets. Dickey is the first 20 game winner since viola. If ur gonna bash the mets at least have someone who knows sports proofread ur article.

  • If anyone out there thinks that this isn’t just one more stupid mistake by the cheapest club in baseball then you are just as asleep as the cheap bastards that own the team, what we as fans have right to do is NOT go to games and not spend anything that will put money in their pockets till they really start to care about this team again!!!

  • As far as I’m concerned, Dickey WAS the 2012 highlight. The Mets are my team….I’ve loved them from the beginning and always will, but leaving Dickey out of any 2012 highlights is shameful.
