I really liked this piece, thick with sarcasm, and the sense of resigning oneself to despair as a Met fan was an excellent commentary on the current emotional state of Metsfans. In a perfect world we would have kept Dickey and we’d have a great farm with our own catching prospects because we’d never have blindly followed Selig’s stupid slot recommendations, but oh well so it goes. See, while it’s depressing to contemplate the present, it will make winning that much sweeter if and when things improve.

That has already started and I think is going to get even worse, but won’t be enough to force the Wilpons out since I have every confidence in Sandy being able to to unload the airplane of any and all weight he has to so to keep the Wilpons in the cockpit.

It doesn’t matter if D’Arnaud and the Snodgrass turn out to be decent. It doesn’t matter if the perceived value of these two is good, come 2015 or 2016. What matters is that long suffering Met fans had a guy in Dickey who was smart, devoted, different, honest, progressive, classy…oh yeah..he won a Cy Young too. And so he had to go. Because it apparently didn’t even cross their minds that they should just keep the guy because he made a difference to NY and to the fans. Truth be told, Wilpons can’t even understand the traits that made Dickey so loved and respected here. They simply have no class whatsoever. Worse yet, they were threatened by him because who he is just showed us all, how base and revolting the Wilpons are.

honestly this was all a ruse. The Mets never wanted him back. he was always going to be traded, thats why they never made him a real offer. Don’t you yet understand how these guys work by now. We may in the end do OK in the trade but lets not even for a second try and say Dickey could have stayed for less. Anyone who believes that is a fool. this auction started the day the season ended. And for all you david wright lovers, the minute his value to the team is outweighed by his value in a trade, he is gone with these guys at the helm. His value now, in additional to being a good player, is to put a nice face on the front office and act as their mouthpiece.

I can only hope that RA returns to Citi Field for the All Star game and gets an ovation longer and louder than any Mets representatives including David Wright.

An extended, unrelenting standing ovation for RA, and an embarrassed ownership and front office on national TV would be well deserved.

I understand what Satish was trying to say, but frankly, he did not do it artfully or with clarity.
To me, Dickey was a class act, and as Metsie states, a real role model, and a big loss to the Mets fan base. Given Sandy A’s negative attitude toward Mets fans, it is impossible to have any confidence in the big gamble he’s taken with this sour trade.

A lot of people are going to hope they can forget this deal soon, even worse some will be rooting for Dickey to fail miserably despite all he did here with his class act, Cy Young and generous attitude toward the NY Fan base…Just to justify doing it.

Unfortunatly this deal is indicative of what is wrong with this country and economy…
We used to care about having good quality and now we prefer cheap and disposable.
We don’t care if what we buy can last or even if it is any good just as long as it is cheap. It it is cheap then we can buy more to replace it….

As if spending 7 Mil over 5 years that does nothing is better spent than 7 Mil over 1 year that actually is any good.

I will Miss RA and I suspect the Lockeroom will too. But you know who will miss him the most?

In this day and age of Physical Freaks, Steroid enhanced cheaters, Wife Beaters, Wife Killers, Drunk Drivers, and Gun Toting Gangstas…

Dickey was actually the kind of player our Kids could look up to a REAL ROLE MODEL that is hard to find these days….

One who exhibits much of what America needs right now…
A shining example of “HARD WORK and BEING SMART BREEDS GREAT SUCCESS!”

And if you ask me thats a pretty big loss to the Met fanbase.

Lot of people will want to forget about him…But many won’t until they realize that we gave away the one thing we should be trying to get more of!

Let me just take a moment to clarify here. I’m not actually suggesting we forget RA Dickey.

I apologize to the people who took this as some kind of attack on RA… I thought he was an exceptional players and human being, and we were lucky to have him. The trade was for the best, but I will miss RA Dickey.

As TX notes above, there’s some sarcasm font to be taken note of. The piece needs to be read in its entirety.

Excellent article, Satish. Like you, I admire the honesty and sincerity of RA, which coupled with his unique talent for performing as a ML pitcher, makes for a very rare combination of qualities in a professional ballplayer. It is a combination that is truly worthy of serving as a role model for youth. Your article is a very subtle form of adulation and praise of a player that we, as Mets fans, have been graced to have played for us in the short time we was with us. It was a wonderful three years and one that should be registered forever in the Pantheon of Great Mets. Some of us readers, here at MMO, understand the essence of the article you have authored with such talent. Too bad, so many just don’t get it. I, for one do, and would like to congratulate you for your skilled writing which captures the essence of RA’s departure from this team. Too bad it will be a very long time before a player of such emapthy for the fans graces our team once again. Congratulations for a job well done.
