ESPN: Wilpons Among Most Loathed Sports Figures In New York

fred and jeff wilpon

Fred and Jeff Wilpon made ESPN’s list of the 10 most loathed New York sports figures of 2012.  You can click here to view the list, and here to rank them yourself.

Here are the latest rankings which has Alex Rodriguez leading in points and Fred and Jeff Wilpon leading in most first place votes.

most loathed

I don’t know how ESPN determined their nominees, but I found it odd that the Yankees had three players on the list while ownership and management got a free pass. Yet on the Mets side only ownership made the cut while lets say Jason Bay managed to avoid the list.

  • Jets hate is a little overboard…and this is coming from a Jets fan.

I get the Sanchez hate, though.

Dwight Howard on an NY Hate list? Lebron gets more hate than him…

    Confusing list.

    • Jets aren’t relevant enough to hate.

      • I think hating Sanchez is a little unfair…sure the guy has struggled, but he has no line…no receivers and no running game…plus the defense ha snot been good the past couple of years…not really not a good mix for any team, especially one run by a “defensive genius” and an O that is supposed to run the ball and control and manage the game.

    • LOL I agree the Jet hate is a little overboard and this coming from a Dolphin fan…

But I would ask you why hate Sanchez, it’s not his fault they hyped brass into gold….

Yes he cost them a season but the truth is they (mostly Rex) had made the mistake of believing thier bluster….
That is fine the first year but in year two or three people are going to expect you to live up to it and if you don’t your a dead duck!

  • If Jason Bay was Black or Hispanic he would be near the top of the list. I am white non Hispanic but have to tell it as I see it. Most see that it is the Wilpons that ruined the Mets and not SA.

    • Alderson has been there two…Fred has been running things basically unopposed for what, 20 years? Yeah the fortunes of the Mets the last two decades are due to the one constant…the Wilpons (Fred mostly).

As for taking the time to hate athletes or owners, it is a game and meant for enjoyment. If your life is so devoid that you have to hate the Wilpons or ARod, that is a bit excessive. Reserve that for the dimwits blowing up children in shopping malls or shooting up schools.

    • C’mon, Obama has struck out a hell of a lot more than Bay and had fewer home runs but NYers voted for him overwhelmingly over the white guy who actually did perform in his life. I don’t see this as a race thing at all.

Bay was the first guy to stand up and say he didn’t live up to his contract to the point it got hard to listen to his self-flagellation. He may not have performed but he was always a stand up guy.

      • I agree with Metsie it that this is a results business. Beltran was hated way more than Bay and look at the difference in production. Please leave politics out of this. This is sports blog and when a guy is a bum we can boo. I am afraid race is a big factor.

        • You brought race into it, don’t try to define what the boundaries are. Race is part of our society and you can’t say that racism exists in sports, where it clearly does not since blacks and hispanics are wildly our represented and praised as a proportion of our society, and then pretend it doesn’t in other parts of our society.

Jason Bay is not in the top 10 hated athletes in NY simply because he is not a lightening rod type guy. He was a quiet, non-performing guy on a team full of non-performers. It has nothing to do with race.

And Beltran was traded in 2011 after actually performing so no, I don’t agree with you or Metsie at all.

If you don’t want to bring race into the discussion, you probably shouldn’t bring race into the discussion.

          • Compared to Beltran, Bay got a complete pass in this town. Beltran actually performed when he was healthy. I’m not going to speculate that it is was race, because I don’t know why he was disliked in this town.

To this day Beltran is hated for taking one strike 3? Meanwhile all he ever did was be the best Center fielder in Mets history, and there is no debating that. I said Mets fans would regret not having a talent like Beltran on this team and now they do.

            • Met fans that choose to ignore that are delusional. Beltran was hated by many from day one and it was because he was Latino. When Beltran suffered a concussion crashing into Mike Cameron head to head, nobody gave two shits about him.

              • “Beltran was hated by many from day one and it was because he was Latino.”

This could be possibly the most inaccurate statement you’ve made on MMO, to date

                • LMAO

                  yeah ok

                  keep telling urself that

                  • Are you saying Maniac has said other things are are even more inaccurate?

                    • Beltran was not hated strictly because he was Latino….

lets just say that the more tanned a player is in this town…the shorter leash he has with the media and therefore the fan base

If David Wright was David Derecho, had dreads, zits, no dimples, spoke broken english, David’s 2nd half struggles are under a tighter microscope and he has less excuses…

For example, When Carlos Delgado went through bad slumps…all types of controversies come about…..it couldnt be b/c he was recovering from wrist surgery ( 2008 )…the media said he was ( in a CONTRACT YEAR ) suppressing his OWN numbers in an attempt to get Willie Randolph fired…

that would never happen with Bay or Wright

you can ignore it all you want….its still there…

            • NOT-SO-HOT;

IT IS CERTAINLY MY EXPERIENCE, THESE PASSED 63 YRS THAT THE RACIAL COMPONENT OF ANY QUESTION IS AS SUBJECTIVE AS IT GETS; DEPENDING UPON YOUR PERSONAL AFFILIATION.
THERE IS CERTAINLY A CONTINGENT OF FANS BOTH MINORITY & MAJORITY WHO VIEW NEARLY EVERY INTERPERSONAL CONSIDERATION THROUGH A RACIAL VIEWFINDER.
FORTUNATELY HISTORY HAS TAUGHT US THAT THE RACIAL COMPONENT HAS VERY LITTLE TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE ULTIMATE OUTCOME OF ANY SPORTING EVENT; BECAUSE AFTER AL IS SAID & DONE, THE RACIAL IDENTITY OF ANY CONTESTANT IS THE LEAST LIKELY ATTRIBUTE CONTRIBUTING TO OR IMPAIRING A POTENTIAL SUCCESSFUL OUTCOME AS REGARDING BELTRAN’S UNFORTUNATE FINAL AB OF 2006 IT TRULY IS A CLOSE RE-ENACTMENT OF THE FAMOUS BASEBALL POEM, “CASEY AT THE BAT” WHEN UNDOUBTEDLY CASEY CERTAINLY WAS NOT OF HISPANIC HERITAGE. BELTRAN’S HERITAGE NO MORE CONTRIBUTED TO HIS RESULTS IN 2006 ANY MORE THAN WILSON’S DID HIS 20 YRS EARLIER(1986); ‘THE BALL’S GONE THROUGH HIS LEGS…”

FROM AN ACCURATE SPORTS HISTORICAL PEWRSPECTIVE, IMO, 1948 WAS THE ONLY SEASON OF NOTEWORTHYNESS IN CONSIDERING A RACIAL COMPONENT. YET, IT’S LIKELY THE BIGGEST TRAVESTY OF RACIAL JUSTICE THAT JACK ROOSEVELT ROBINSON HAS NEVER BEEN ENSHRINED BY HIS RACE AS THE SINGULARLY MOST INFLUENTIAL CIVIL RIGHTS LEADER, AS HE STOOD ALONE AGAINST 172 YEARS OF INEQUITY & MILLIONS OF DETRACTORS WITH NO ONE TO MARCH WITH OR INTERLOCK ARMS WITH. HE STOOD ALONE!

REGARDING BASEBALL THAT SHOULD BE THE FINAL WORD NECESSARY Re A RACIAL COMPONENT. IT’S MOST UNFORTUNATE RTHAT IT IS NOT!

              • >>>THE RACIAL IDENTITY OF ANY CONTESTANT IS THE LEAST LIKELY ATTRIBUTE CONTRIBUTING TO OR IMPAIRING A POTENTIAL SUCCESSFUL OUTCOME

and yet met fans for 7 years were complaining about the racial identity of a team impairing a potential successful outcome ….

                • A handful of ignorant people do NOT speak for the entire Mets Fan non-Hispanic base!!!!

                  • right…

everyone wants the Wilpons to sell…but when MLK III was rumored to be interested in buying…out came the fried chicken and biscuits jokes on Metsblog…

                  • Let’s put it this way. Most of the white fan base gave Bay a leash too long and Beltran a leash too short. Are they outright bigots? Probably they are not. Is their opinion based strictly on performance without regard to race. Also probably not. The race card can be very subtle. At the supermarket; if you are white would you go to a back cashier when a white cashier is available?. Maybe and maybe not. If the black was light skin or very dark would that matter? The opposite is also true.

                    • all u have to do is wait for the next time the mets have a Merengue night, wear a Los Mets uniform…then go on Twitter/Metsblog and see the fan reaction…

                      lmao

                    • That’s right, gauge a group of people because what they do on the internet behind made up screen names. That definitely speaks for an entire race of people.

                      talk about LMAO

                    • Big Difference between many and ALL

stop dealing in ABSOLUTES, unless a real convo on this stuff is something u are trying to duck

                    • Telling ME to not speak in absolutes yet you keep bring bringing up incidents, suggesting that’s who everyone feels, then wonder why I’m refuting, then add what am I hiding? WOW

Yes, I want to duck out of a conversation even though I am a child of an immigrant
Also, that I have a niece and nephew that are part Puerto Rican
Did I mention my cousin is married to an African American and they have two children?
How about the fact that I have a cousin that was adopted from Guatemala.
Did I leave out another cousin, that was raised as a brother with me was one of the first openly gay members of the FDNY?

Yeah I want to duck out of a conversation, don’t want me to speak in absolutes, stop inferring them.

                    • No one was inferring absolutes. You took the initiative to make that assumption ON YOUR OWN.

To say that Met fans have an issue with race does not mean ALL met fans do..or all white people do…but to ignore the thousands of fans who routinely TIL THIS DAY do it on either this site, metsblog, other met-related blogs, to ignore that or brush it aside is ducking the conversation. And you can be a child of an immigrant with latino and black family members and it would still make no difference in this conversation. You might as well tell me how many black/latin friends you have since grade school while you are at it.

                    • You really are stubborn, or just have selective reading skills.

                    • SORRY, HOTSTREAK, AS REGARDS THE WHITE PERSPECTIVE ON RACE,U ARE AT BEST LUKE-WARM GOING ON TEPID

AS A 63 YR OLD CAUCASIAN OF ITALIAN/IRISH DESCENT I CAN HONESTLY TELL U AS A MATTER OF FACT, 99 DAYS OUT OF 99 I WOUILD NEVER PAY ANY ATTENTTION TO THE RACE OF A CASHIER EVEN IF I WERE TTHE ONLY CUSTOMER IN THE STORE.; HOWEVER, I CAN HONESTLY STATE THAt now u mention it i’m unluikely to ever be able to say ythat again. as a father whose beloved grandfather was an unsophisticated, poorly educated laborer who was the most bigoted man i’d ever personally met i can proudly relate one of my finest feelings occurred when my now 43 yr old daughter came home from her very first day of daycare.
SHE WAS ALL VERY EXCITED ABOUT HER NEW “BESTEST FRIEND” SHE DOMINATED THE DINNER TABLE CONVERSATION TELLING US IN GREAT DETAIL EVER SCRAP OF INFORMATION REGARDING THIS NEW RELATIONSHIP TO THE POINT HER MOTHER & I FELT WE KNEW “ALL THER WAS TO KNOW” ABOUT THIS NEW LITTLE GIRL(WHOSE NAME I’VE FORGOTTEN) WELL BACK TO ME SWELLING WITH PRIDE, JUST IMAGINE HOW I FELT MEETING THE ONLY AFRICAN AMERICAN STUDENT IN THE CLASS, A LITTLE DETAIL MY DAUGHTER FOUND UNEVENTFUL ^& UNIMPORTANT JUST AS IT SHOULD BE!

STREAKER, THRERE ARE MANY HERE WHO’LL EXPLAIN MY USAGE OF CAPSLOCK AS A PREFERENCE.

AS A RELATIVELY NEW, YET SOMEWHAT MYOPIC, CONTRIBUTOR, I’D SUGGEST U CONCENTRATE, LIKE MY DAUGHTER, ON WHAT’S MOST IMPORTANT HERE, CONTENT & CONTEXT Vs PRESENTATION

                    • KAY – so what do you make of the dozens of articles that talk about how met fans reacted to the dynamics of the met roster from 2005-2010 …

                      just a coincidence ?

              • “Most Loathed Sports Figures In New York”

Jackie Robinson is a hero in sports and in our society.

He had to be a great player and a great person to accomplish what he did.

Unfortunately I think the white, Non Hispanic community appreciates him the most.

              • “Most Loathed Sports Figures In New York” is the thread. Who determines that? It is the players owners, and GM’s by their behavior and results on and off the field. This is a results business: Black, Latino or White. However the leash is different which is based on fans perception influenced by the press and stereotypes which you completely disregard.

Jackie Robinson is a hero in sports and in life.

He had to be a great player and a great person to accomplish what he did.

Unfortunately I think the white community appreciates him the most.

Please do not type in caps.

                • the black community does appreciate jackie robinson….the new generation in this country ( regardless of race ) does not appreciate baseball, and even more so, its history…a sport that jackie robinson played…

Robinson Cano’s father named him after Jackie Robinson…

In D.R. Jackie Robinson and Roberto Clemente are hero’s for kids…

Most 12 year old kids in this country probably dont know who either player is or at most, just a bit

                • STREAKER, FOR ANY PERSON TO CONSIDER THEMSELVES CAPABLE OF COMPREHENDING THE MOTIVATIONS BEHIND ANY GROUP’S THOUGHT PROCESSIES CONSTITUTES, IMO, A BIAS UNTO ITSELF AS WELL AS A COMPLETE LACK OF MATURE UNDERSTANDING. BTW, I WAS ONCE CHALLENGED BY A FAMILY MEMBER WHO IS 180 DEGREES FROM MY POLITICAL OPINION AS BEING BIGOTED AGAINST THE PRESIDENT DUE TO HIS BEING “BLACK”. AS I INFORMED MY COUSIN, NOT ONLY DO I NOT CONSIDER OBAMA’S RACE AS A SIGNIFICANT, EVEN ;LEGITIMATE IDENTIFICATION CHARACTERISTIC,, TO ME IT IS MUCH MORE SIGNIFICANT THAT HE IS IDEALOGICALLY OPPOSED TO MY PERSONAL BELIEFS

BESIDES AS I EUPHEMISTICALLY POINTED OUT, TO MY COUSIN, @ THE TIME, I THOUGHT WILLIAM JEFFERSON CLINTON WAS SUPPOSEDLY THE FIRST “BLACK ” PRESIDENT

SREAKER, AS I DON’T CONSIDER MYSELF QUALIFIED TO SPEAK FOR ANYONE; BUT MYSELF, I CAN COMFORTABLY & EMPHATICALLY SHOUT THAT THE MATTER OF RACE HAS NEVER BEEN A NOTICABLE FACTOR IN MY EXERCISING MY JUDGEMENT ON ANY MATTER, I WOULD LIKE TO BELIEVE I’M NOT TERRIBLY DIFFERENT THAN MOST OF MY FELLOW MEMBERS OF THE SOCALLED MAJORITY

IN FACT, I HAVE TO REALLY STRETCH MY IMAGINATION TO CONCEIVE OF ANY CIRCUMSTANCE WHEN MY OWN RACIAL COMPONENT WOULD BE A SIGNIFICANT CONSIDERATION IN MY LIFE. AS SUCH, I ACCEPT MY INEPTITUDE @ EVER BEING IN THE SHOES OF SOMENE WHO’S RACE BECOMES THEIR DOMINANT SELF-IDENTIFIER.

                  • Obama is Black?!??!!????!

I just thought he was a foreigner! LOL

          • LMAO ====> you can’t say that racism exists in sports

          • “Race is part of our society and you can’t say that racism exists in sports, where it clearly does not since blacks and hispanics are wildly our represented and praised as a proportion”

You are ignorant and clueless if you believe racism doesnt exist in sports…

-Wasnt it only a couple years ago that the MLB sanctioned every team had to at the very least interview a black or hispanic for vacant managerial jobs. And WIllie Randolph was paraded around and interviewed by every freaking team with a job opening…even though none of them were interested in hiring him just filling there quota. For crying out loud Jackie Robinsons number is retired throughout baseball due to race not because he was a great baseball player(although he was)

-Wasnt it only a couple years ago that Black Quarterbacks in the NFL didnt get a fair shake in the NFL and had to switch positions if they wanted to make it to the NFL.

            - How many black players are in the NHL? A hand full….How many times have those few black players been victims of racial slurs by the FANS???

Joel Ward of the Washington Capitals, Wayne Simmonds Philadelphia Flyers and many others.

            As far as(in your words),
            >>blacks and hispanics are wildly our represented and praised as a proportion<<

In Ancient Rome before they became Gladiators they were slaves…looked down on as nothing…but when they put on the armor and fought and performed in front of a crowd and then they were praised but at the end of the day after the performance buzz had passed they were still looked down on as SLAVES…lesser beings…They are praised for there performance

One more thing social media…..When a black or hispanic athlete under performs or does anything that fans distastes you can go on twitter and see numerous White non-hispanic fans targeting them with racial slurs…but when a white non-hispanic person does anything you almost NEVER see Race or slurs brought up.

            Race exists

            • There is a fight scene in Django unchained that kinda reminds me of the roman scene u are describing. The basic premise is 2 black slaves who fight each other to the death, the winner gets a bottle of champagne, beats his fellow slave to death, loses his humanity….the loser loses his life and exits a life of suffering.

The folks making the real money are the promoters setting up the fight

          • No race in spiorts? You are obvious living in an alternate univers. how long ago was it that all these Alderson lovers, hated Omar for making the Mets the Hispanic team? They love Alderson because he is white and Omar wasn’t. They don’t care that the Mets have sucked every year under his snow white regime and they ignore that Omar had several winning seasons and the team fell apart because of injuries., They beleive the team fell apart due to Hispanic make up.

              • BBLB, HOW DESPERATE CAN U GET? CITING SOMETHING CALLED “MUSCLESPORT MAGAZINE” AS A CREDIBLE RESOURCE? DID U EVEN NOTICE THEY WERE ADVERTISING PRODUICTS SUSPICOUSLY LABELED “IRONMAG LABS’ BODY BUILDING NUTRITION PRODUCTS” WHAT GIVES? ARE THESE LITE ROIDS?

BASEBALL? IS TO IRONMAG AS LIGITIMATE MEDICINE IS TO BALCO.

SOMEHOW, U FIND SUPPORT FOR A RACIALLY MOTIVATED CONCEPT IN IRONMAG? AND SOMEHOW THAT’S RELEVANT? BBLB, WE SUFFER A LOT OF FOOLISH CONCEPTS ON THESE BOARDS, PERHAPS YOURS & GOOD OLE IRONHEAD MAGAZINE IS ONE TOO MANY?

            • Gentlemen,
We all know that race is a part of life, and life includes sports. But let’s not overestimate its role with the Mets. Many white fans were pro-Beltran and pro-Omar. Everybody loves and still loves Jose. Many white fans can’t stand Jeff Wilpon. Many white fans are anti-Alderson Jason Bay was classlessly booed as he staggered off the field with a concussion, and many of those classless fans were white. Are fans that come out to the park with Dominican or Korean or Japanese flags to cheer their countrymen racists? Just because each of us relates a little more to those with something in common, including culture and race, doesn’t make us all racists. It isn’t all about race.

              • >>>Many white fans were pro-Beltran and pro-Omar.

Sure…and there were plenty of white baseball fans that loved Hank Aaron, should we ignore the many that booed him b/c he was black ???

                >>>Everybody loves and still loves Jose.

Everybody except a large portion of met fans

                >>>Many white fans can’t stand Jeff Wilpon.

Jeff Wilpon cant stand Jeff Wilpon…

                >>>Many white fans are anti-Alderson

and Alderson has a defense team on this site that would make OJ Simpson jealous ( The Firm)

                >>>Jason Bay was classlessly booed as he staggered off the field with a concussion, and many >>>of those classless fans were white.

Yes, and I agree it was classless…but Bay’s leash was exponentially longer than any met I have seen in my lifetime.

The nice guy lines that helped extend that leash in 2010-2011 did NOT exist for other players…you want to ignore something and dismiss something that is disgustingly offensive

                • JDD,
You may have misunderstood my point. I am not ignoring the racist component. It is there in life, in sports, in Met fans’ selection of heroes and goats. It is a component with Beltran, Omar, Bay, Wright, etc. My point is not excusing it or diminishing it. I am just saying that there are many that are above it, and have formed opinions independent of it. Is that 90%, 75%, 50%, 20%? I don’t know. And, even if it is 99%, that doesn’t justify the 1%. It just appears to me that these forums consistently overlook the notion that there are many that choose who to root for independent of racial prejudice.

                  • Probably because the many are quiet silent when those folks are yappin

                    • Probably so.

            • So again, an opinion piece of one guy and you post that as if this guy speaks for all fans. That presumptuous attitude that what this guy says speaks for all non-Hispanic Mets Fans is as shallow and ignorant as the person whose opinion you are broadcasting.

Making blanket statements that “they like Alderson because he’s white and Omar wasn’t” is any less ignorant? “THEY” (whoever they are) believe the team fell apart due to Hispanic make up isn’t an uninformed statement? Is that any better than what the guy said in the opinion piece posted?

Sorry, but I’m so sick of excuses and assumptions and blanket statements.

              • The Alderson vs Minaya thing is a bit more complex…

Race is a factor…just not the ONLY factor…

Alderson’s 1980-1995 credentials are not that impressive…Since 1990, ( the last year Sandy won a WS ), there have been 14 other GM’s that have as many WS and many who have a better overall record…

                People equate Sandy with Moneyball
and Moneyball with Billy Beane …and theo epstein and andrew friedstein
                and those guys with success…

                so therefore…Sandy = Billy / Theo/ Andrew / Jon Daniels / etc

The nicest met fan would say Omar is the old school scout cant speak english, he was great b/c he had good insticts/luck/voodoo but took on more than he can chew and is not as good as the smart scientists listed above

Sandy on this site has a cult following. Its not simply b/c he is white…but me thinks if he was Kenny Williams ( who has a better overall record as GM and as many WS ) …the cult would be MUCH SMALLER

as a matter of fact…if Kenny wanted to sign BJ Upton and Michael Bourn, trade for Justin Upton ( there is your OF ) drafted Courtney Hawkins…signed Edwin Jackson..giving the mets 4 black players out of 25….( 17% )

the media would be ALL OVER IT…you can pretend like its not true all you want though

                • Sandy does not have a cult following here on MMO. If someone says, or said in the past they were willing to give the guy a chance the other side would equate that to God Like, when it was never said or even inferred.

People take one statement and run and twist it and make accusations that the poster thought SA was the end all be all, for the simple purpose to perpetuate an argument needlessly. So lets stop with the cult like accusations, could not be further from the truth.

                  • LMAO

Lets just say Sandy has a much longer leash than any Met GM I have ever seen in the past 25 years …

                    I will say …the following is shrinking…and shrinking….

everyone can see the list of available 2014 free-agents vs 2013 free-agents…

how many quality OF are available this year for RF or CF?

                    around 7-8….

                    Bourn
                    Upton
                    Hamilton
                    upper echelon

                    Swisher
                    Hunter
                    Ross
                    Victorino
                    2nd tier

                    Ludwick
                    Delmon Young
                    Suzuki
                    third tier

Hairston = bottom of the barrel….and even he might slip from our fingers…

who is available in 2014 ?

                    Beltran -36 LMAO
                    Granderson – 32
                    Ellsbury – 30
                    Gardner – 31

                    how about 2015 ?

                    Brett Gardner ?

                    LMAO

                    What a JOKE !!

                    • I like Duda a lot, but I think the only way we can get a quality RF at this point is to find an American League team who has a bigger need at 1B/DH then it does for one of their starting outfielders. So it wont handcuff them as much to lose a quality outfielder in order to make their 1B/DH position stronger.

                    • Possibly…but my point still stands…

if Sandy is not going to add to the OF via free-agency this year…..when is he going to do it ?

                      not next year…cuz its a sellers market….
                      not the year after….
                      or the year after…

                    • A good defensive OF you left off your list who can probably be had at a discount and may have a rebound year with his bat is, drum roll please, Ankiel.

Bonus, we can also put him in the bullpen if all else fails.

              • Im assuming you are referring to me since I was the one who linked the article.

If you read it you would know that after he gave the opinion of one Mets fan he polled a couple of Mets fans and got mixed messages from the whole lot. And he ended his piece by stating some people whom feel this way are open about it and dont hide there feelings and some do it and are not aware of it…basically 2nd nature…

Never in any point and time did I or the author of that article use a blanket statement and say ALL White Mets fans feel that way…But there is a large portion of fans that do feel this way….and to ignore that fact or saying its only a small group is very ignorant on your part.

And yes I read where you list your family makeup and that means zilch in the grand scheme of things….How many times have you heard the line, “Im not racist I have black/hispanic friends/family”….smh….youre replying to every comment on the subject as if someone accused you personally which no one has…

                • LMAO

                  BINGO !

                • BBLB, THERE IS A HUGE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN RECOGNIZING A MINORITY OF DUNDERHEADDS PARTICIPATE IN A DESPICABLE FORM OF GROUP-THINK[BIGOTRY] & EMPOWERING THEM WITH A VOICE WELL BEYON RTHEIR LIMITS. SURELY THERE IS A KLANISH MENTALITY IN THE WORLD; HOWEVER TO SEE SHOES UNDER EVERY LAUNDERED SHEET IS BORDERING UPON PARNOIA. AS A NY NATIVE @ AGE 18 M YSELF WHILE DRIVING TO FL FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE 60s I’D HEARD MANY A NEWS REPORT CITING A GROUP WHO’S ONLY POINT OF REFERENCE TO ME, PERSONALLY WAS IN A US HISTORY, POST CIVAL WAR HISTORY TEXTBOOK.

@ A TIME WHEN THE FIRST LADY OF THE LBJ ADMINISTRATION WAS RALYING A BEAUTIFICATION OF AMERICAN ROADWAYS RAILING AGAINST BILLBOARDS THE BLOCKED SCENERY FROM VIEW. I CERTAINLY WAS SHOCKED NEARLY BEYOND WORDS TO, UPON CROSSING FROM VA INTO NC IN LIEU OF THE TYPICAL “WELCOME TO TARHEEL STATE” CUTSIE BAREWLY NOTICABLE STATELINE DEMARCATION WHEN INSTEAD I QWAS CONFRONTED & AFRONTED WITH ONE OF THE BIGGEST DAMNED BILLBOARDS I’D EVER SEEN PAINTED WITH A BLOOD RED BACKGROUND WHILE DEPICTING A FULLY WHITE SHEETED, COWLED SWORSMAN ATOP A REARING WHITE HORSE HOLDING ALOFT IN A “CHARGE” POSITION HIS FLAMING SWORD DIRECTLU UNDER THIS BOLSD ENCRPTIAN…”WELKOME TO KLAN KOUNTRY” AS A ROMAN CATHOLIC I’D ALREASDY BEEN TAUGHT THE 3 K ENCRPTIAN

TODAY, I LIVE IN NC WHERE OVER THE PAST 15 YRS I’VE SEEN ZERO EVIDENCE OF THAT GROUP’S ACTIVITIES; BUT I’D BE STUPID TO BELIEVE THEY NO LONGER EXISTED OFFICIALL OR OTHERWISE, INDIVIDUALLY. TO LEND THEM ANY ADDITIONA CREDIBILITY IS, IMO, EMPOWERING THEM BEYOND THEIR DUE CONSIDERATIOON AS I BELIEVE ALL ILLNARTURED BELIEFS TEND TO SUCCOMB TO WHITHERING IN SELF CONSUMPTION SANS NOTERIETY

BBLB, AS I’VE SAID B4 WHILE I’VE NEVER EXPERIENCED DIRECT RACIAL BIGOTRY TO MY KNOWLEDGE I DO NOT FEEL QUALIFIED TO CONVERSE IN IT WITH ANY BETTER TERMS; BUT MY OWN INEPT ABILITY TO ATTEMPT TO RELATE; HOWEVER WHILE IGNORING EVIL’S EXISTANCE IS NEVER4 WISE, ALLOWING IT TO TAINT YOUR OWN PERSPECTIVE WHEN NOT OBVIOUSLY IN PLAY IS FOOLHARDY, AGAIN IMO.

                • Last I’m going to say on this topic of Racism…..

I’m White ok thats out of the way….

I grew up in the 60′s where using the N Word was tolerated and before there was any marching being done in Selma or Washington….

My Father was a cop during this era so you KNOW I was as exposed to racist language as much as anyone maybe even heard more than most minorities at the time heard!

My favorite player on the 69 Mets was Tommy Agee (Definitly not WHITE!)

Since I’m White and don’t have any racist tendencies (just look at my defense of having a rotunda in the name of Jackie Robinson for proof of this)…
POOF goes the notion that ALL WHITE people feel the way that is being described!

And for a minority to come out and accuse ALL white people of being Racist is about as Racist as a White guy saying Blacks are all lazy freeloading criminals as if all are criminals, all are on welfare and all are lazy and refuse to work!

There is only one way to ever get rid of racism….
                  STOP BEING RACIST!

Because every time you act racist it inspires someone else to STAY racist in retaliation!

                  Just stop it!

Truth of the matter here with all this political correctness is that the word isn’t what is racist, it’s the person that uses it!

A black man being called the N word was only derrogatory because it identified him as BLACK which was supposed to be insulting….
Is it insulting to be black? Of course it isn’t! Be Proud, Don’t fear words or even feelings expressed in those words….

Because you shouldbe proud of what you are and if you are not and can be insulted because some word was used to point it out you got a bigger problem than any racist….
You have Self Esteem issues and there is no legislation or Social convention that can correct that problem….

Just be proud of what you are, and feel sorry for those who think your less because those are the ones who are lesser!

What is key to equality is how you feel about yourself not how others feel about you over superficial means….

                  That out of the way….
Did some have a problem with Los Mets?
Yep! But they were pretty much shut up when the Mets made the playoffs in 2006 and anyone who paid them any attention was no smarter than someone who sat in thier basement waiting for the end of the world last week….

If you pay any attention to an idiot then blame yourself not the idiot is the moral of the story here!

        • And all over one missed curveball to boot Hotstreak….

It’s just rediculous how one play makes you hates but if you suck consistently the worst you get is pity and support.

      • LMAO

Because graduating from Colombia + Harvard with honors, then running successful community service programs, then becoming Senator, becoming head of United States Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on European Affairs, legislated for oversight of certain military discharges ( look up Chuck Luther ) ,he cosponsored the Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act introduced by Sen. John McCain (R–AZ).[

Partnering first with Sen. Richard Lugar (R–IN), and then with Sen. Tom Coburn (R–OK), Obama successfully introduced two initiatives bearing his name. Lugar-Obama expands the Nunn-Lugar cooperative threat reduction concept to conventional weapons, including shoulder-fired missiles and anti-personnel mines.

The Lugar-Obama initiative subsequently received $48 million in funding.

The Coburn-Obama Transparency Act provides for the web site USAspending.gov, managed by the Office of Management and Budget. The site lists all organizations receiving Federal funds from 2007 onward and provides breakdowns by the agency allocating the funds, the dollar amount given, and the purpose of the grant or contract.

Obama and Coburn also collaborated on repeated efforts to end the abuse of no-bid contracting in the aftermath of natural disasters.

I have my own issues with Obama, but in no universe did the Republican Party present a viable option better than Barack.

( For the record, due to my disappointment in both Obama, the Democratic Party and moreso, the establishment in Washington, I voted for Jill Stein )

    • Bingo…

If Jason was black or hispanic i highly doubt that we see all the “awww shucks but he’s trying so hard” defense that everyone in the 99.999% white media used.

      • I dont think race or media has anything to do with the fans perception of Jason Bays woes. Ive have felt bad for players who struggle which are white, black, hispanic etc…BUT Ive also felt great about players who seem like as&h0(es that go through long year slumps.
I felt sorry for Armando Benitez when he went through that stretch where he couldnt close a game, and hes a black hispanic. Im sure that he was also trying hard, I dont think any performer doesnt try his hardest especially when theyre struggling.

I told anyone who would listen to me after year 1 that we should find a way to trade Bay back to Boston, that doesnt mean I didnt like him, he just didnt have the ability to perform in the biggest baseball market in the majors. Its happened to other players too. I’ll bet the house that Jason has a monster year in Seattle cause theres no pressure or constant media attention.

        • no…but Bay being white most def got him a longer leash with the media than castillo/beltran/perez/insert name of latino villain here

        • JOE, I’VE ALWAYS FELT BOTH FANS & MEDIA LATCHED ONTO THE EASIEST CAUSE TO BLAME FOR BAY’S TROUBLES(BLAME THE PARK) PRIMARILY BECAUSE IF BAY JUST HIT AS HE HAD IN EITHER BOSTON OR EVEN BIGGER VENUE(PITTSBURGH) HE WOULD HAVE AT LEAST CONTRIBUTED IF NOT STARRED

PERSONALLY, I’VE BELIEVED BAY WAS MORE OVERWHELMED BY HIS PAYCHECK THAN HIS ENVIRONEMENT(CITIFIELD IN NYC)

TOO MANY FORGET THAT THERE WERE 2 LF OPTIONS @ THE TOP OF THE F/A OUTFIELD MARKET AT THE TIME BAY WAS SIGNED, THE OPTIONS EWRE OBVIOUS AS BORIS’ CLIENT MATT HJOLIDAY WAS CONSUMUING A BIG BITE OF STL BUDGET BAY WAS AVAILABLE AT A COMPARATIVE BARGAIN DEAL.

I SINCERELY DOUBT EVEN THE MOST ARDENT MINAYA SUPPORTER COULD LOGICALLY ARGUE HIS ABILITY TO CRAFT A LEGITIMATE, VIABLE CONTRACT.
IMO OMAR WAS TO BUSINESS OPERATIONS WHAT ALDERSON IS TO TALENT EVALUATION. WITHOUT ALDERSON’S TALENT EVALUATING ALTER-EGO, DiPODESTA THE METS WOULD VBE MUCH WORSE OFF, PERHAPS A NORTHERN FISH, “GUPPIRES” TO LAURIA’S MARLINS…

          • “TALENT EVALUATING ALTER-EGO, DiPODESTA ”

            LMAO

You need to remove the word talent from that job description.

Paul Depo is a talent evaluator as much as Luis Castillo is a power hitter

    • the whole list is white staley

  • The day the Wilpons sell should be a national holiday

    • i cant stand the Wilpons. Please sell the team to people with a bank account………..

  • By the end of the week the Wilpons will be number one in points too. Glad you linked to this so more people will vote.

  • Not race just hate. We still have some talking about Wright’s regular season strikeout.

  • Why the hell is Granderson on this list? O_o

  • Surprised James Dolan was left off. But glad to see the Wilpons finally getting the credit they deserve. They’ve earned it.

    • Yeah, definitely surprising

James Dolan should be right behind the Wilpons….but I guess since the Knicks are hot right now and the only team in NYC that is winning and looking like they have a real shot at a championship this year (at the moment)….. He gets a pass!

New York will forgive you in a second as long as you put a winner out there. Guess that might explain why the Wilpons are putting these stinkers he calls baseball teams out these past few years

      • Dolan has pretty much stepped out of the limelight….allowed the team to be shaped and developed….and is reaping the rewards…

  • While I can understand why the Wilpons are on the list, I do not understand why Jeffrey “Fire tSale” Loria is not. As much as we Met fans like to bash the Wilpons for being cheap, incompetent, and clueless at least they don’t tear down the team every year and con the local community into paying higher taxes to pay for their ballpark. In my opinion, Loria is far worse than the Wilpons. And, for that matter, so was Frank McCourt. Of course, it would be nice if Uncle Bud would run the Wilponzies out of town so they can be bought like the Dodgers were and have seemingly endless amounts of money to spend, right? :) LOL

    • Hey the year 86 for the Mets is stale. Loria at least won twice more recently.

    • It’s about NY sports, not overall sports.

      I’m surprised Dolan isn’t listed.

  • Defining the Wilpons as any kind of sports figure is an insult to well……sports figures everywhere.

  • Bay got a free pass?? Wow, didn’t know it. I thought he got so brutalized by the fans that the mets had to release him. I remember a constant chorus of boos every at bat at home.

I think folks are seeing what they want to see concerning race here.

    • Beltran got in year one what Bay got in year 3….

Beltran played through a nasty quad injury in 2005 and a concussion…gets called injury prone and soft…his numbers still eclipsed Chasin Bay…except he doesnt get the gritty, hard-worker label to keep the fans off his back

There is a huge difference between how the media and fans treated Bay and Beltran…

if you want to make it about money…

there is even a bigger difference in how Bay and Castillo was treated…and Bay made 3x as much as Castillo…

    • Lmao@you if you think Bay didnt get a pass….

When he was released by Sandy there were Mets fans saying, “I feel sorry for Bay he’s a good guy I hope with a change of scenery he comes back to form”…lol….when Reyes went to the Marlins Mets fans were counting the days til his hammy’s give out….when Beltran left they wanted his knees to buckle lol….

      • There are met fans STILL mad at Oliver Perez ( who coincidentally is now teammates with Jason Bay )

      • When Bay ran into a wall and got another concussion he was boo’d off the field.

I love how you guys pick and choose your stories.

        • By that time, Bay had already broken the 900 mile leash the met fans had given him.

I love how you refuse to use context in your argument.

Castillo could save a dozen kids from a burning hut in Africa and he still would’ve gotten booed

          NY = Results Oriented Town

  • Personally, I’m surprised to see Curtis Granderson on there. He strikes out a ton but he’s been one of the major offensive forces for the Yankees and is a great guy all around.

    • Also the fact that while the Wilpons placed third, they received the most 1st place votes for most hated sports figure.

  • How the hell did Dolan avoid making this list?

  • This whole list is the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen, I mean really who cares

  • While the Wilpons came in third – they did have the most #1 votes!

In a way I feel for Fred. His financial mentor turned out to be one the worst crooks in history. Madoff’s two sons were close to the Wilpons and both committed suicide.

And Fred does have an intellectually challenged son which is a burden.

Fred has to be traumatized and broken. I think he means well but he really doesn’t connect with the fans and that interview he did a couple of years ago when he dumped on his own players was downright insane.

The Wilpons should just walk away before the fans tar and feather them.

    • intellectually challenged + arrogant

      thats the worst part

  • Actually, Sanchez hasn’t done anything to be hated for. Disappointment in performance is one thing, loathing an individual for what he represents is another.

That’s why ARod made the list. I bet even if they were separate entries, both Fred and Jeff would have made the top ten anyway.

  • [...] ESPN: Wilpons Among Most Loathed Sports Figures In New York … We all know that race is a part of life, and life includes sports. But let's not overestimate its role with the Mets. Many white fans were pro-Beltran and pro-Omar. Everybody loves and still loves Jose. Many white fans can't stand . [...]
