It’s not a bad idea swapping Johan and Parnell for Ethier but they probably would want more. The reason Ethier is even on the block is that the Dodgers have spent so much they now want to unload some money. But they’d only have to pay Johan for one year so it might work. Mets throw in a good prospect and I’d do it. Parnell may never be more than a decent 7th inning guy.

Actually, reports are coming out that the Dodgers are listening to offers for Ethier. Sounds like they want out of the $85 million over 5 years they still owe him.

Could have something to do with the fact that he is a left handed outfielder that was so bad against lefty pitching he was platooned last year.

Where have I heard that problem before?

T & F Terry or Bobby?;) I’d vote for both but neither would learn from the lesson.

I could see Bobby just sitting there like a Xmas goose wondering what the heck’s going on with all these feathers … then he throws the 10th consecutive fastball right down the middle which is deposited anywhere between the foul poles in the stands.

I’ll just do a lil’ repeat: If the Mets acquired him, he would be sure to have elbow surgery as late as possible so he could jeopardize his whole season with them (See: Frank F, Carlos Beltran).

And why in the world would the Dodgers do that? To help the Mets out? They have too much SP as it stands now. Do you really think they are interested in taking on a big contract (even if for one year) for a guy who, up until now, has been broken down the last couple years?

When looking at a possible trade, look at it from the other team’s perspective; not just what you want for the Mets. While the Dodgers might want Parnell, I doubt they want him so much they are willing to part with Ethier and absorb $30M for a pitcher the do not need.

I dont mind Parnell in 7 or 8 innings but if Collins put him in the closer role, someone should tar and feather him. Parnell has proven a couple of times that he isnt cut out to close.

Johan and Parnell for Ethier. Dodgers can afford Johan’s contract. We save money by swapping Johan for Andre’s $, we get a RF who has plenty of play time left and can hit for avg and homers.

I´d rather have Parnell for 2 million, plus an additional 2 years of team control than Perez for 7 million and then free agency after 2013. Both are pretty similar pitchers.

If that money is to be spent, I´d rather offer the 5 million $ difference in salary to Brian Wilson, Jose Valverde or even Francisco Rodriguez and see whether one of the three takes it.

I liked Billingsley a lot in the past – but he has regressed over the past couple of years and seems likely to undergo TJ surgery eventually and will be a free agent soon as well.

Problem is, the LA Dodgers have emptied out their farm system in the deals for Ramirez and all the Boston guys. Don´t really see a match here.

D-Backs aren’t going to trade Upton. . .they might trade Kubel but we need better defense. If we trade Parnell who does that leave in the bullpen? Kind of weak there already. .

Sandy should be calling Arizona and ask what it would take to acquire Justin Upton..Flores, Parnell and literally anyone from the crop not named Wheeler.. Upton is only 24, grew up with Wright and a perfect fit..Wright, Ike, Upton, d’Arnaud is a nucleus to build around…

Tough to move Parnell with the bullpen in the state is in. With that said if someone is willing to give a piece that helps us out long term it’s a deal, and a good young piece, not Harang, caps, or Billingsley who has elbow trouble. Elbow trouble is not good particularly for pitchers. Just do not see a match with dodgers, maybe Parnell and a light prospect for Sands and Gordon but it just does not seem enough for Parnell.
