I see no scenario where Santana remains a Met past 2013 unless they convert him into a Closer and send him to the Pen.

Yes it will be hard to trade him but how hard depends on how well he does.

And your not going to get picks for him later on because there is no way they will make the qualifying offer to get them it would be too much and way more than he would get in FA.

You are not going to rape someone for prospects by trading him but you might get something instead of nothing but Payroll relief at the end of the year.

Maybe you get a Bullpen arm, Long Relief or Spot Starter out of it which will be fine.
Then if no one bids on him at the end of the year and his price drops to more performance relative salary you can decide if you want him back or not.

Trading Santana now or before the deadline is not going to be easy. How much would anyone offer for a guy who has not had one whole injury free season coming off the surgery Johann had in 2011. Forget about the no hitter!

If things went well for Johann in the first half of 2013 he might be of more value to the Mets depending on what he would be asking for down the road. He won’t be asking for big # 1 starter money but he won’t accept peanuts either.

To a team that is seriously in the hunt for 2013 and needs a veteran starter because of injury, Johann could bring back a decent prospect but not a lot more because of injury risk and the amount of “warrior” innings he has pitched!

I believe it is evident by this time that Jose didn’t walk but was given his walking papers instead – notice Sandy is negotiating before the option year instead of telling both players to shop around and then get back to him like he did with Jose? Also note how Sandy and David’s agent negotiated the contract so number five will be paid less up front allowing the team to have more roster money to spend – could not the same have been done with Jose?

Not to saying Jose would have stayed a Met but by Sandy having nothing to do with negotiations like he has with David and R.A., our G.M. was assuring us Jose wouldn’t

Phins played well against the Pats who put up 40+ on the Colts and Jets. The dolphins had many chances to win that game or at least tie it. But Tannehill needs weapons because they have no WRs. I’m like “why not draft a WR this year then?” but I look at mock drafts and everyone’s saying they’re gonna pick a DE or LB. The defense is fine! Improve the offense! Lol this is wayyyy off topic. Its kinda pathetic were taking about the Dolphins during the Winter Meetings but the Mets haven’t really gave us much to talk about except the Wright signing and the possibility of a lot of players being traded.

Oh BTW, Reds have offer out to Ludwick….

Well he has to show he is going to help them or they won’t give you a damn thing but pay the remainder of this year’s salary.

remember whoever gets him will NOT get picks, We could though…

So if he is successful we can look to trade him and get something more MLB ready and if not you get your picks from him not Dickey.
And it won’t matter which picks at that point because you probably had no intentions of resigning him anyway.

The Question is will they make the qualifying offer to get those picks. My Guess is no which is why the trade at the deadline is probably the best bet.

Which is why a guy like Belichik and Parcells were always successful…

They didn’t say much to the press, Just did what they did and never let onto anyone the reason or rationale for why they did it.
