Odds are, he is fine and probably underpaid or paid at market rate for the next 5-6 years and then regresses for the 7th and 8th year of his deal – when his salary also drops significantly again and he´ll probably more of an elder team mascot with fringe league average production and probably declining playing time.

Also, if you want to question the Wright extension, take a look at the Mets farm system and where its strengths (tons of pitching) and weaknesses (few advanced hitting prospects above High A ball) currently are. Then take a look at the upcoming free agent classes and whether you see any sort of hitter who is as good a bet as Wright to be a well above average hitter for the next 5+ years. Then you´ll realize why extending Wright to this contract makes a lot of sense.

As for Trumbo, Olt or someone else with power, I believe we all agree that the Mets really need another bat with power to go with Davis & Wright. Unless Lucas Duda finally discovers something, I don´t see any other hitters on the current roster to reach 20+ HR in 2013. Whether it´s worth trading Dickey is an entirely different question.

It sure is agonizing and non-exciting.
However, at this point, I´m not sure what moves are there to be made – that also make sense looking at 2015 & beyond – right now.
Except for possibly trading RA Dickey for a significant package of players that will probably help the Mets win from 2014 or 2015 on.

Signing Cody Ross and Jose Valverde will not make the 2013 Mets a likely playoff team.
And trading Jon Niese, Matt Harvey, Ike Davis or to a lesser degree Ruben Tejada and Bobby Parnell, i.e. the 5 Mets with the highest trade value besides Wright & Dickey probably won´t help going forward as well.

For starters – do you have evidence that Wright’s body is breaking down? Does Wright have knee issues that you know of? Does Wright have to change his position to become a viable option in the field? do people say Wright gives away at bats?

I mean do you just read what you want to in order to mention David Wright in a negative view? Josh Hamilton’s worth to the Mets versus David Wright’s is honestly just a waste of time.
