when you have the crown jewel of the trade market and other teams are coming to you, you can select from them…

lol. and only an idiot would not comprehend that to trade Dickey will take an over-pay or else he stays with the metsos in 13 and beyond. the way it should be. It’s like they WANT alderson to make a bad lop-sided trade so they have more ammo for their agenda. Can’t win with these people.

““To move Dickey”, Alderson said. “It has to be for a difference maker. Are we punting ’13? Absolutely not… If we do something, we want whatever comes back to us to have an impact on us as soon as possible.”

When asked if Dickey’s popularity and potential fan backlash is a consideration in any potential Dickey deal, Alderson said:

“It’s a consideration, but in the event we’re able to return a ‘difference maker,’ I think many of our fans are able to understand the value in that. We recognize the value that R.A. represents to us. But I think our fans understand what we’re trying to do, where we’re trying to go.”

OK, on the above I can say he is talking in terms hypothetical and not giving anybody double-talk.

But when he said teams would have to approach him – he is not shopping R.A. around – he again stoops down to the level of a legal double-talk.. He has not shied away from being non-committal regarding R.A.’s future with the Mets, talking in the exact hypothetical terms quoted above. In lieu of him making the telephone calls, if that isn’t telegraphing a message to opposing general manages, I don’t know what is.

Despite Dickey being a Cy Young award winner,I see that his sentimental value to the Mets cannot be priced on the trade market… I know the opinion is unpopular,but if you have to move Jon Neise for a /REAL/ difference maker,then good-bye Neise,best of luck in your future endeavors.

First off, Carr had a terrible o-line in Houston.

Second, free agents are a risk as well. At least if one prospect washes out, you have a handful more to move up.

When your big money, long term deal free agent busts, what do you do?

Because we are deep in pitching but short of hitting on our farm. Also, Dickey’s 38, so he’s not part of the long term plan.

There are teams out there with hitting prospects in need of pitching right now.

All it’s going to be is one difference maker for another, so why trade away your ace pitcher away. Who going to fill his shoes when he leaves, we need his arm in the rotation to give us that wining feeling every time he steps on the mound. It’s going to be a very big void in the rotation when he leaves. We don’t have a deep pitching staff as it is, So keep your ace while you have him

We won’t improve having resigned DW and resigning RA. Luv ‘em both, but lemme try & recall–where’d we finish ‘with them’? Oh right, i remember.
We must make some moves this off season to expedite the turnaround.
A deal with Boston might comprise RA for Salty, Bogaarts, & Bradley.
Or with KC: RA for Starling, Zimmer, Bonifacio.
Or Wheeler + Flores + Fulmer for Myers & Odorizzi.
Dunno. Do know something’s gonna give & i’m betting it happens this week.

I think honestly that getting D’Arnaud would be the best move for the Mets. Even for Dickey straight up. He is ready, he torched AAA before getting hurt. If all the stars align, we have something incredibly special here…

And Wright’s contract isn’t bloated? Wright signed for more than any other Mets player in history, so if the other Mets contracts are bloated, then so is Wright’s.

Also, if we are going to rebuild, then why did we sign Wright to that contract? Rebuilding takes time, so if we rebuild now, by time we get good, Wright will probably be past his prime.

To start rebuilding now would be a horrible move. The Mets must do whatever it takes(within reason), to try to win now. Otherwise, Wright’s contract will just be a waste.

Although Bogaerts kind of ran into a brick wall after being promoted to AA, believe me when I say Bogaerts will be a difference maker sooner than later. If not 2013, the beginning of 2014. Here you have a big kid (6’3″, 175 lbs.) with a great swing, hit for power, and has decent speed. The plan is simple: Get guys with the potential to move quickly through the system and make an impact, like it was when they dealt for Wheeler. Do I believe the Mets have a chance at this kid? Honestly, I don’t know. It’s easy to say no, but with Alderson….who knows.
