I would have liked to keep Acosta as a spare part as he has been really good for the Mets outside those 30 or whatever innings at the start of 2012. But it is what it is. I wish him well.

Acosta, like every other pitcher on the Mets, was hurt by the terrible defense. Even when he was struggling badly, with an 11 ERA at the time he was sent down, his FIP was only around 5.50.

In the second half, when he came back from that injury and demotion, he allowed a 1.78 ERA, .148/.242/.182 opponents’ slash line, and struck out 23 in 25 innings. His final xFIP for the season was only 4.41.

I think people overrate how bad he was because, like every other pitcher on the Mets, he got dinked and dunked to death for the first 3 months, because the Mets were running a little league defense out there with Bay, Hairston, Duda and Murphy, sometimes all on the field at the same time.

It was rather weak to begin with. Not resigning Acosta helps….remember the bombing he took in Colorado. Sadly, there were too many of them. Time to try someone else…anyone else.

Who’s going to be in the bullpen, it’s looking rather weak. A nice selection of starters with nobody to come in later in the game is kind of scary.

Acosta had great stuff, and showed flashes of brilliance, but he could never put it together for too long.
