I have followed both teams from the beginning... the Mets in '62 and the Jets when Sonny Werblin bought them in '63. Both are dysfunctional now because of inept ownership. The Wilpon-only ownership group has run the franchise into ground since assuming total control in 2002. Woddy Johnson took over the Jets when Leon Hess died... I believe the year was 1999 or 2000.
Johnson is a total clown. One of his first acts upon assuming control of the franchise was to charge people $50 to be on a season ticket waiting list. He lost me right there. PSL's; going in on a stadium with the Giants, spending 50 million dollars trying to build a stadium on the West Side of Manhattan.... these were all moronic moves. He should have built his stadium next to Citi Field. He would have had the city bend over backwards to help him... and he probably could have put a dome on it and controlled the venue totally. What a clown. Of course, he and his upper East Side buddies would have had to hang out in Queens... Forget about his team on the field... he has hired nothing but mediocrities for his GM's and his coaches. Then, to top it all off, he comments that he would rather see Mitt Romney win the White House than have the Jets win a Super Bowl. You're right up there with the Mittster, Woody... a clueless clown who happens to be filthy rich. Sell, please, sell....

Great comparison. Rex always reminded me of Omar Minaya. More hype than substance. His first 2 years were a lot like Omars first 2. This year for the Jets is a lot like 2009 for the Mets, where a bad team can blame injuries on their poor performance. Next stop for the Jets is Irrelevance, where the Mets have been comfortably residing the last 3 years.

Well the difference is the Jets have a Salary cap to control them and thier competition from spending while the MLB lets anyone use thier wealth as an advantage over the other....

Who is more dysfunctional?

Well I know who is more delusional cause the Jets actually think they are the best team in the NFL and say so anytime you put a mic in front of them....

Mets aren't deluded or dysfunctional they are just compulsive liars and say they want to win but always make moves that only win when judged by an accountant not Baseball performance and Attendance.

I was just thinking the same thought as I sat to watch a bit football. I agree with Jerry M. I think the Mets have a pretty good clubhouse just not very productive. I'm a NY Giants fan but I used to like the Jets very much and have actually ben to more Jets' games than Giants (tickets are easier to get and less expensive and my closest friend was a season ticket holder). That being said I now find them difficult to root for. I think its Rex's empty promises, hollow predictions, bombastic comments and general stupidity (ie. This is a Jets' town comment was the last straw for me). The biggest similarity to me is that niether franchise ever expirienced sustained success and at times are the poster boys for Murphy's Law. I also see some similarity in the fact that often times, players with solid histories forget how to play when they get to the Mets (Bay, Mel Rojas, Alomar, etc.) and Jets (Blair Thomas, Neil O'Donnel, etc.).
