I think Dickey has a couple good years at this level so a two year extension doesnt bother me. But if reports of him wanting 4 more to total 5, then trade him and let someone else deal with that. Of course, if someone makes an offer now that knocks the Mets socks off, then they have to take it.

Winning now isnt likely. Moves have to be made looking ahead a year or more.

I agree, the idea of Dickey actually continuing to pitch at this level in 2014 and beyond when the team is supposed to be competitive is a risk to say the least. If they keep him it has to be a team friendly deal without a no-trade clause.

Thing is to try not to get too involved with comments from EITHER side during a contract negotiation. Of course they want to give the other teams the impression that they don’t “want” to trade him and it’s only a backup plan… drives his trade value up. Of course they want to float the idea of trading him to Dickey’s agents because it could drive his price down. It’s a hot stove for a reason boys.

Again, SELL HIGH for once… I get the whole trying to put fannies in the seat to make money, but building a team for the future is more important at this point, fans are not gonna turn out anyways, sell high while the opportunity is there… then go for 2014 all out with wheeler, harvey, davis and co….

I agree Angelo. I like Dickey, he’s a nice guy, good pitcher but he’s 38 years old. I understand the thinking that he is a knuckleballer and could pitcher at an advanced age but at the same time it’s important to remember that he throws his knuckleball harder than the traditional knuckleballer. Also the Mets need to fill other needs and Dickey’s value will never be higher to trade.

i LOVE RA , would love to see him back for us pitching 2-4 more years ( well on THAT level ) , BUT you will never get more out of him, TRADE him and fill some holes, we will doing fine SP wise , so trade him , if he gets the CY plus the fact he is a knuckler , will make him a hot trade object, but you have to pull the trigger NOW
