Reyes was often pumped up as one of the stars of the team. Lots of Mets fans even those from Long Island named him as one of their favorite players. Even back in the Fran Healy days he’d always try to pump fans up by saying fans should come out to the games to “watch Reyes run!”

For sure there is some segment of the population out there that are idiots and don’t like Reyes for race-related reasons. But that is nowhere near as big of an issue as it’s made out to be. And Reyes was treated more than fairly by most of the fan base. If anything he got off very easy when it came to the whole “clutch” thing compared to what is said about guys like Beltran and Wright. And the NY media always spoke very favorably about Reyes. Maybe there were one or two “old school” idiots out there…and there might be those in the media with other teams who didn’t like Reyes excited little “celebrations” or whatever you want to call it…but by in large the Mets media guys – Rubin, Martino, Lennon, Coutino, etc said nothing but great things about Reyes.

If David Wright were fat, ugly, , surly with pimples all over his face, he would be in the same category as Reyes.

Unmarketable…no matter how productive he was

Reyes almost smacked the sh*t out of a patron, who squeezed his wife’s butt-cheeks as she walked down the hall to their table. The things people do to try to instigate lawsuits amazes me.

Met Angel Pagan and his wife downtown, they were lost and asked me for directions ( no he was not chasing a fly ball )

And 99% of the time one side doesn’t take the first offer presented. It’s called “negotiations” for a reason

I am the furthest thing from being a politically correct individual and I would hate to think that a GM’s priority in fielding a team was to achieve one that is ethnically and racially balanced. I say thoroughly search the pacific rim, latin america as well as the usa and field the best team you could possibly field. Thats what it should be all about.

What I totally disagree with is that the Mets decision to not keep Reyes and go all out for Wright was racially motivated. I don’t believe that for one second. I am not a fan of the Wilpons and I wish as much as all of us that they would sell the team……but they are not racist. Baseball does have its problems with the hiring of blacks in managerial and front office positions, but when it comes to players, its a different animal. These owners go goo goo and ga ga over these superstars and just throw rediculous contracts at them regardless of what color they are. When you can prove to me that white players are getting paid more than their black and latino counterparts whose talent level and stats are the same, then I’ll listen to this nonsense.

Ok tell us what level they were willing to pay then….
Show us where at anytime they stated what level that was that gave Reyes the opportunity to say OK I’ll sign that contract….

There was NO level they were willing to pay cause if there was one they would have made that offer and then said take it or leave it….

No offer was EVER made which says there was no level they were willing to pay to have him back.
They wouldn’t even offer him the SAME salary because he then went and took an offer for LESS money the first two years!

People who have sense know how these things work. Just because you state it repeatedly doesnt make it correct. So I will explain it to you again. The negotiations moved to a level higher than the Mets wanted to pay. There was a $100M deal on the table. Reyes wasnt getting more than $75M from the Mets. When a deal is in hand for $100M, you dont make an offer for $80M. Reyes’ agents knew what the price was and made sure the Mets knew too.

You want to tell others they are wrong when you are factually off base. Reyes wanted to play in Miami but was going to take the most money. Loria stated that in front of the Miami Chamber of Commerce last off season. Reyes wanted $1 more from the Marlins and he was signing. So stop the pissy he wasnt offered a contract so the Mets didnt love him garbage.

yet the Wilpons are willing to pull from their ADVERTISING BUDGET to help pay him like one
