Let’s See A Little More Of Matt Harvey, Before We “Omar Minaya” Him
I caught a Mailbag Post on MetsBlog entitled: Can the Mets “Matt Moore” Matt Harvey? Huh? Oh I see… Basically that’s the MB reader’s term for describing the concept of locking up a young promising player through his arbitration years and maybe even buying out one or two years of that player’s free agency, as the Tampa Bay Rays did last Winter with Matt Moore. In his response, my buddy Michael Baron said he likes to [...]

MMO Mailbag: Trading for Giancarlo Stanton
Hitman asks: With this hoopla going on right now with David Wright and the contract negotiations (Wright being dissatisfied by the contract offer in length & value), and Giancarlo Stanton being very outspoken against Miami, wouldn’t it be smart to package Wright along with Johan Santana (eat about 60% of his contract), Zack Wheeler, Jeurys Familia, and Rafael Montero in order to land Giancarlo? Strike while the iron is hot, so to speak? Murph can [...]

Other Clubs Don’t Believe Dickey Is On The Trade Block
Jayson Stark of ESPN is hearing from several clubs who are telling him they don’t believe that R.A. Dickey is really on the market — yet. The Mets have listened to offers on him since the GM meetings. But teams that kicked those tires came away with the impression the Mets still prefer to sign him, and are just lining up trade options in case those talks fall apart. Sounds like the Mets might have just [...]

Is Chone Figgins A Good Fit For The Mets?
I was reading MetsBlog’s take by Matt Cerrone on why he feels the Mets should jump on the recently released Chone Figgins. Figgins was pretty terrible last season. I’m talking Jason Bay-level terrible. He was no better in 2011. To be an upgrade for the Mets, he wouldn’t even have to be close to what he did 2009. I mean, his 2007, 2008 would be a significant upgrade, frankly. So, I expect teams to be [...]

Director of MLB Operations Adam Wogan Will Not Return To Mets
Major league sources told the Daily News that director of major league operations Adam Wogan, with the team since 2006, has been told that he will not have his contract renewed. Wogan plans to continue in his role until the end of the year, but has been given immediate permission to speak with other teams. General manager Sandy Alderson confirmed the move, and spoke of Wogan in highly complimentary terms. “Adam did a terrific job [...]

From Left Field: I’m Thankful For The Mets
It’s easy to be a Yankee fan. Every year they’re fighting for a World Series crown. If they don’t make it, they go out and spend millions of dollars to bring in players who will help the franchise achieve its goal of a championship. And if it doesn’t work that year, they’ll repeat the process until they get it right. On this Thanksgiving, I’m thankful for a variety of things including a great family, friends [...]

Wilpon Lays Out Scenarios For Wright And Dickey
At least they are talking. Mets CEO Jeff Wilpon said there’s dialogue between the team and David Wright and R.A. Dickey, then added he’s optimistic about keeping them. What else is he going to say? “No, I think they’ll both leave.’’ Yeah, that will sell a lot of tickets. You have to be skeptical whenever any side in a negotiation says something on the record, as much of the time it is posturing and sending [...]

Mets Sign Three To Minor League Deals
The Mets announced the signings of two pitchers to minor league deals with invites to Spring Training, Scott Rice and Carlos Torres. Additionally, VP of amateur scouting Paul DePodesta tweeted that the Mets have signed outfielder Jamie Hoffman to a similar minor league deal. Rice, 31, a 1999 first-round Draft pick of the Baltimore Orioles, has never made it to the majors but has 14 years experience in the Minors and independent leagues (including in [...]
