This is the first I’ve heard of something of that sort Joey. I’m not sure. As for my sister, she still has no power but otherwise is fine. She just needs a ton of work done to her home and 2 new cars. Thanks for asking.

Good point about the base runners. When you see film of some of the old-time windups, it almost looks like a satire.

Possibly during the 70s you saw teams get more aggressive on the basepaths with stealing and getting big jumps. Drag and drop doesn’t do anything hold runners and The Franchise refused to pitch from the stretch.

Great write-up.

Alan, I’m sure you are referring to when the Mets reached the 18-18 won lost record in Atlanta and the press expected champaign. One could not have found a better match than Seaver and Hodges and too this day we see Tom shed tears whenever he speaks of him.

I was there won Tom won 20 for the first time in the heat of the miracle race for the division. If anyone is interested, the audio broadcast of Tom’s near perfect game is available on CD and I strongly suggest getting it – listening to it will bring back the feeling of the excitement to those old enough to remember it and will be a piece of Met history in getting the feel of what the Mets meant to the city back then for those too young to have experienced itself.

This is how much respect the organization (until Grant took over) had for the franchise. In the 1970 yearbook, his page opened up with the words “only Met in history to lose a world series game”.

I really dont think lowering the mound had anything to do with it. They did that very early in Seaver’s career in 69 or 70. He was just pure greatness. I will add that his style kept his right arm from injury because so much of his power in his delivery came from his legs and hips. So the question still is, why don’t more pitchers adopt this style?

I’ve always wondered why more contemporary pitchers don’t use the “Drop and Drive” style. Does anyone know? Maybe it’s less effective since they lowered the mound?

It’s stuff like this that keeps me coming back here. Great job. One tip though. I think you should explain your HOF a little bit better. I didn’t realize until I clicked the link that this was part of series. Maybe a little explanation at the top would prove useful. It still doesn’t take away from this outstanding post. I look forward to the next four.
