I’ll comment. Murphy has been a asset for the Mets. 41 Doubles the record for a left hand hitter in the Mets. He has energized the team & will be a good 2nd baseman in 2013. He will also get to hitting HRs like 2009 when he hit 12 HRs( Could be 15 or more).He works har & will payoff.

All the comments here are about Valdi… how about Murphy? A blatant mediocrity if there ever was one, the Mets aren’t going anywhere with Daniel Murphy as their starting second baseman.

He’s just undisciplined at the plate. You can teach discipline

He’s 24, makes 450K, has more pop and talent than any OF we have in our system

of course you want to send him packing

cuz he’s not a “smart” player

But our “smart” GM and manager have him play SS, 2B, CF, LF, RF all in the same season

The Mets brass has surely seen that Valdespin’s game is raw. No doubt he has some pop when he connects but the pitchers figured him out and he became far too undisciplined at the plate.

Biggest problem for me with him is that he is not a smart player!

He is a work in progress in far too many ways and the best thing would be to include him in a package deal and send him packing!

Absolutely right Taskmaster,

Giving Valdy, Kirk and Duda more major league time the last six or seven weeks in a lost season would have given the kids a chance to give us a glimpse of what they could or could not potentially do. Hairston and Torres were given way too much time after the front office kicked them in the teeth. When the season was not yet lost, all the pitching help we needed we would get would come from the minors so I don’t know why they didn’t continue that practice after there was no longer anything immediate at stake.

Sandy could have said this was part of the team’s rebuilding process instead of telling the fans our goal was 1) to remain competitive and 2) that other clubs were not offering us quality prospects. Had we seen some improvement in any of the aforementioned kids I think some more of us would have considered joining OMFG.

Not sold on Spin either, but I think your correct on him changing his attitude and approach. I like some of the cockiness but he has to put it in perspective. At the plate, we see he can get hold of one but, he needs to show consistency on off-speed pitches. At worst he can hit off the bench and fill in at various positions = utility!

made me wonder too. maybe they didnt want to totally ruin his confidence once the league found out he cant hit the breaking ball. Better to work it out away from the bright lights.

I agree Taskmaster,

For a team that is supposedly rebuilding they sure did a great job of giving the young players very little to no leeway or regular playing time. But rather run players like Torres, Bay,Baxter, Hairston down our throats when the Mets season was well over. This season shouldve been evaluation because this front office definitely wasnt interested in competing this past year as they made no effort to improve mid season

I dont know what Valdy can really do. The sad thing is nobody does because Collins didnt play him the last two months of the year. Who knows if he could hit big league pitching. The fact the Mets were out of it so it was a perfect time to put him in RF and play him every day. Perhaps he hit, perhaps not. Instead, Collins kept running Hairston out there which only increased his value on the FA market. And now we still have no clue what Valdy can or cannot do. If he played and hit .300 over the last 50 games, you might be able to make the case that he could handle RF everyday. Now, there is no way to make that case.

Spin is a shaky proposition, but he certainly doesn’t suck. Just his approach sucks. Jose’s approach sucked when his first few seasons, but people cut him slack bacuse of the raw skills and a very likeable personality. I wouldn’t hand him the 2B job in 2013 unless I had to, but keeping him around for the next 2 pre-arb years and hoping he matures so far as plate discipline and attitude wouldn’t be a bad idea.

See I already know where this post will go. That is the reason you have to be so careful in how you read a media report or if you don’t take it with a grain of salt. It doesn’t have to mean that they don’t like V-Spin or even that they are not high on him. Perhaps it means that they don’t see him as a viable candidate to start at any position next year and see him more as a utility guy for now. OOOOOOO, bad Mets, bad.
