Mets Looking For Young Power Hitter, Won’t Trade Ike

According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Mets will not be trading Ike Davis, despite the original plan of possibly moving him to capitalize on his value and allow Lucas Duda to play first.

Sandy Alderson has a track record of putting high value on the ability to hit for power, and if R.A. Dickey were to be traded, Alderson would be looking for a power hitter, preferably in the outfield.

Even before the Duda injury, the perfect plan involved the two combining for 50-60 home runs, but the Mets realize the quickest way to turn a team around is by hitting more home runs.

  • Things are looking up.

  • Well that shows at least some intelligence from the front office.

  • If Duda can hit 20 HRs then I can live with him in the OF. There are lots of guys who play out there who cant catch the ball to save their life. They are able to offset that with their hitting. With the total lack of production from out there, I say Duda is a key piece. If the Mets get .250 and 20-25 HRs, that will move the team forward. CF and RF still are a question mark but that could work out with a trade or two.

    • He broke his wrist.

  • They should just trade Duda for a Right Handed version of him.

    • And who might that be?

      • I don’t know but whomever it is will have also had to have under performed, lack defensive skill and broke his hand moving a couch.

        • Those first two are easy to find – the third one is tricky.

      • How about J.D. Martinez….

        • Dang, that stinks for the Astros. I didn’t realize he broke his wrist too.

          • I ignored your usual NON BASEBALL DEVOID OF ANY REAL INSIGHT post regarding broken wrists….

Try Harder to make a point next time instead of your usual cheerleading of the Sandy Lovers from “THE FENCE”

            • Hey, Mr 303 IQ, that is what the Romans would have called “iocus”.

              • You shouldn’t try to act intelligent as you can’t sell it at all!

You do better when Jessup forms your opinion and you just wave your pom poms the way TRS does!

      • 2009 Jason Bay?

  • Can someone explain to me the irrational confidence Mets fans have in Lucas Duda? The guy has not hit more than 15hrs in the majors and had to be sent down last year cause he was so bad. What makes this guy a starter and someone that we should just write his name on the line-up card everday next year? He is a power lefty bat off the bench at most.

    • For my part I haven’t given up on Duda not his bat at least. I think Duda can still hit for power and average and with Bay gone they can hide his lack of defense in LF as well.

I understand he had a bad 2012 but the player I saw after they traded Beltran in 2011 I think is still there. Duda over his last 52 games in 2011 (49 as a starter) hit .304/BA .386/OBP .514/SLG 9/HR 36/RBI 26/R. That over 162 games would of averaged out to 29/HR 113/RBI 81/R.

If you look at what he put up over 3 seasons at AAA (133 Games) he hit .301/BA. 384/OBP .564/SLG 30/HR 85/RBI 78/R.

The talk it seems suggested that Duda struggled with the mental toughness when it came to believing in himself unlike Davis. How much truth to that is there I don’t know but if true it is something the Mets will need to work on if they truly feel Duda can help them down the road.

      • NJ it’s his dang defense though. I only hope he can play an acceptable LF because he was awful in RF.

  • The Mets should see what it will take to get Justin Upton

    • THIS ^ ^^^

    • I would assume they already have. I am already on record in favor of a Wright for Upton trade.

    • If I had to guess, I’d say Flores, Familia, another lower level prospect (Tapia?, Pill?) and probably Murph. I can’t see him going for less.

      • If I had to guess… he gets traded for Andrus.

        • Which I would take!

          • Huh? I was saying that Upton will get traded for Andrus. Makes too much sense for both teams once Hamilton leaves Texas.

            • Oh, my bad. Thought you were saying Dickey for Andrus, as I think you’ve mentioned that before once or 3 times.

              • Oh yeah, I have already sent that to Sandy about 1,006 times. No luck so far.

            • Thank goodness it’s Friday.

              • TX, I bet it would blow some people on here’s mind that we are actually carrying on two different conversations on two different blogs at the same time. You know some here aren’t aware of multitasking.

                • Could be called multi-tasking. Could be called “yeah, I probably should be working…” Either way, beats the snot out of just copying and pasting the same Sandy-rants.

                  • LOL, yeah.

    • I don’t like Upton’s road splits. He’s in a very hitter friendly park and his numbers take a much larger than usual dip when he’s away.

  • Doesn’t matter what they do… Alderson will be guided by the Beancounters on 126th Street and screw it up… Go Nats!

  • Trade RA Dickey for Dayan Viciedo & Tyler Flowers from the White Sox

  • This search for a RH power hitter is why I keep bringing up Trumbo. If they could somehow add a young power hitting RH to the lineup it looks MUCH better. IF they trade Wright it is a necessity to get a guy like Trumbo and then some.

    • In a trade for Trumbo,Wright wouldn’t need to be traded, considering Dickey’s current value heavily outweighs Trumbo.

    • Trumbo for dickey and a prospect love itttttttttt then I would consider keeping wright Tejada, Murphy, wright , Ike , trumbo 1-5 can be great we just need to get a bull pen

  • The Desert must be HOT right now.. I see a lot of desert people immigrating here in MMO… Don’t worry fellas/gal, I understand how boring it must be.. Welcome!

  • Looking for a young power hitter. And so are about 25 other teams. Nothing to see here.

  • Dickey for Desmond Jennings and a top prospect?

    • You’re on to something there, Rich. I was thinking the same thing recently, but with a bigger package that will give us Hellickson as well.

    • Why would the Rays do this? It is only 1 year of Dickey on the cheap. After than, he’s gonna get expensive. Why would they trade controllable talent? And, they have a major strength in their SP and need positional players. And the only chips we have are Ike or Wright, and we aren’t trading Ike and they seem to have a decent 3B themselves. I don’t see TB as a match at all.

  • That’s because Tampa isn’t a match. They need bats.
