Three years ago I would have jumped on this, but not now. Once his legs go, and they will, his value as a player plummets and he may not even stick in CF. Not so sure he’d make an impact in a much larger park that will also sap his power in the same was it did his former teammate Bay. Does anybody know why Metsblog wants to trade Niese for anyone? As a Mets owned blog whose content is controlled closely I am getting this uneasy feeling that Niese is going to be traded. They literally bring him up in a post everyday as the one we should trade whenever they post about a player on the trade block we should get. I hope there’s nothing to this.

A speedster approaching 30 who has shown an inability to remain on the field yet will command big money = bad risk on so many different levels.

He’s also LH and as you said has only averaged 101 games the last 4 seasons combined.

Wel, even if he’s not staying he’s way off our radar. If we complaing about reyes being injury prone then look again. the kid is talented and plays good, but he cannot stay on the field. Pass because #1 we won’t get him, aim lower guys and #2, his heart is with the money or boston, so that’s recipe for not wanting to be a met..

I disagree…

jacoby is gonna be 30…looking for big-bucks…

free-agency is used to supplement, not build a team

Jacoby would be useless if we still winning 75-80 games

if the mets were SMART…they would take the money they saved with Jason Bay and buy out Tejada/Ike’s arb years NOW…and beg for them to include a couple of free-agent years…

we should’ve gone for the cuban kid in Oakland and Aroldis Chapman…both who are in the mid-20′s and were signed for relatively good contracts…

or the asian kid in texas who was a star in Japan…

a LF like jacoby would’ve been PERFECT for us to sign in December of 2006…

in 2012, he’s not pushing us over the top…and we would have to pay him 300 million dollars to come here anyway

To me you have 3 trade chips, Dickey, Wright and Niese.

Dickey to Texas for Olt (when that heel injury isnt career ending) and Leonys Martin ( OF #1)
Why would Texas do that deal? The have Beltre at 3rd and locked up for years. And Texas needs pitching.

Wright (and $$) to Arizona for Parra (OF #2), Skaggs (so you still have a lefty) and Bauer.
Why would Arizona do that deal? Arizona wants an upgrade at 3rd. And adding money would be tempting so Arizona could deal away some pitching prospects.

Niese to who gives the best deal. And when the Mets think they cannot get what they are looking for…..you have a very strong rotation with Santana (trade him in July to a contender and Wheeler to replace him), Harvey, Niese, Bauer, Skaggs.

Any thoughts on these trade proposals?

So who cares that Ellsbury wants to stay in Boston. I wish him all the best!!
