Omar didnt have enough pull to fire Tony ( who was desperately trying to fire Omar’s 1st managerial candidate since day 1 )

sorry to break it to ya, but considering he was able to get young talent and simultaneously turn around a sinking ship in 04, WITH THIS OWNERSHIP, Omar performed a miracle.

In terms of PR disasters, our super professional saber metric grand wizard has been an epic failure in that department.

As a GM you are an Administrator (Hence “administrative duties” are you still with me), you need to be more than a talent evaluator (something I still say was Omar’s strength).

You need to deal with the media, a weakness with Omar when he often contradicted himeself and even attacked (not how accurate his allegations were and I don’t care) a member of the media.

Most of the contracts he handed out were terrible over-payments. The only one I have no problem with was Beltran’s (I actually liked him very much and realized he needed to be pushed to come here.)

His handling of Randolph’s firing was brutal!!! I wasn’t the biggest fan of Willie’s as a manager (I’m not alone because he bombed in many interviews prior to the Mets and hasn’t gotten a skipper job since) but flying him out to CA and firing him in the middle of the night was weak and it showed huge flaws in his administrative style (there’s that word again).

Then there’s the whole Tony Bernazard fiasco. A strong administrator (are you following along?) would never have allowed one of his loose cannon buddies to run amuk like he did with Bernazard. I don’t just mean the taking off the shirt and challenging players to fight thing, TB’s club house meddling and back room pacts with Jerry Manuel (another administrative bombshell) showed how weak of an administrator Omar was.

I actually wanted Omar to succeed very badly but in the end it all got away from him.

If you need me to include other examples to better illustrate what I meant by administrative duties I’m happy to do so. I hope you are now more comfortable with meaning of the phrase and maybe one day if you work hard you will be able to use it correctly.

I’m pretty certain that nearly everyone here has praised Omar’s talent evaluation skills. It’s his overall administrative/GM skills that are greatly lacking.

Who really cares who he didn’t thank (someone is always left off that list). You could be right in that he still winds up being traded. I just think his agent was doing his due diligence in waiting to see if he could add the 2012 NL CY winner to his list of accomplishments to add when discussing a new contract.
