Like many vacationers, we were excited about going to a place of history but as our jitney slowly approached the areas where ships had sunk that feeling slowly began to change. Then we went from tourists to somberness as we looked down at the hull of the Arizona with the understanding that we were gazing upon the permanent resting place of so many innocent men whose last moments were filled of pure terror. We began to cry and left the memorial much different – and hopefully – much better for that experience.
