I’m glad he won this, but he still got shafted in the gold glove voting. Also glad to see Bourn and Trout get honored. How those two failed to win gold gloves was a worse offense than Wright.

Unlike in the past where at least where I am concerned Wright won a Gold glove that wasn’t deserved had he won the Gold Glove this year it would of been deserved. Wright overall I feel had one of the best years I have ever seen from him at the position. Him not winning won’t change that. It’s nice to see him be recognized by Wilson but I can’t help feel this is like winning a Billboard music award rather than a Grammy. Congrats nonetheless.

Most years I’d agree with you, but by my eyes, Wright played the best D I’ve ever sen from him. His throws were much better and he took a much better approach to fielding balls…plus he made plenty of “Wow” plays during the year.

I’m not a Wright Fan Boy by any means…I really like the guy and would want to see him back, but he’s got some big holes in his game that worry me about giving him a lifetime contract.

Sadly 2012 was kinda a perfect snapshot of Wrights career. There was the line drive hitting, other way going, two strike contact making, big moment producing Wright that I love, but then the 2nd half we saw the Uppercutting, head pulling, outside pitch waving, three pitches and your out Wright that can’t produce when we need him.

If Reyes wasn’t worth the big contact that he got, how can we justify the type of deal people think Wright deserves?

Well, maybe the baseball gods punish him for actually winning it back to back in 2007-2008 no? Now that the golden boy has lost it the system sucks, had it won it you be jumping up and down like a little school girl… go figure..
Ohhh, and BTW, “The sporting goods company Wilson awards one standout defensive player from all 30 Major League teams, as well as one overall individual winner from each league” that’s the only reason why he won this award maybe so.. yeah, don’t go celebrating as if we had just won the WS.

David Wright played a stellar third base in 2012 and absolutely deserved NL Gold Glove.

So I’m not sure who you were watching this past season, Joey D., in stipulating he’s not the best. Observation and advanced stats aligned this past season for David Wright even though voters were asleep at the wheel.

I think all of us who love David also concede that he is not the best glove man at third and we still get nervous whenever he tries to sidearm a throw to first. Data is too sterile although I do think those who cover other teams rely more on stats – whether traditional or advanced – and don’t therefore get the full picture of one’s ability. Sometimes the gold glove is more a popularity contest or based on past reputation.

Um, no. Any expert would tell you that UZR needs at least three years to be accurate. It can’t be trusted at all for a single season. You see players all the time have drastic changes in their UZR from year to year.

It is extremely unreliable, especially for a single season. And I don’t think it will ever be reliable because feilding involves a lot of factors that are difficult to account for, like outfield quirks and defensive shifts.
