The problem with this ..is that reyes + childish tantrum were pretty much synonomous with every thing reyes did emotionally.

If Reyes hit a triple and clapped too much...he was acting like a "kid"

If Reyes argued a call and got ejected...he was acting like a kid...

If Reyes stole a base and clapped, he was acting like a kid...

So Reyes arguing with his manager and being called a kid just fell in line with how reporters catering to the traditionalist in them or in their reader base.

David shows emotion and is fiery

Reyes shows emotion and is a child

Jason Bay looks depressed on the bench and he is a gamer
Castillo looks depressed on the bench and is a cancer

sorry dude...but the fact that there is NO DIVERSITY in baseball NY media is the culprit.

http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/bondy/2011/04/sex-o-matic-static

here is Bondy, a white man over the age of 60, writing an article for the daily news about the mets

does he talk about anything related to the game? NOPE

he takes an article out ( approved by the editor ) to write about the mets choice of music in the dugout...

it turns out Bondy is not a fan of rap music and thinks is a problem in the clubhouse because he has on his rap music too loud

"there's still an element of boys-gone-wild in the Met clubhouse"

boys gone wild????

Is this 86???

Is David Wright doing lines of coke???

Or is he just listening to Drake???

FYI - it turns out the person putting on the music that day was Willie Harris, who later had some comments about Bondy's article

There is this weird redneck element when it comes to baseball.

Its like they are stuck in the 1950's...

and IMO a huge part of that is trying to create a hero that they can relate to, even if they have to create double-standards in how they are covered.

...if David Wright was David Derecho, had dreads, a beard, pimples, listened to reggeaton non-stop, barely spoke english...or basically...became Manny Ramirez....I doubt he becomes the ambassador for the team

Alex.......you're 100% correct, but I never meant to condone Wright's tantrum. Its never good when a player publicly shows up his manager. All I was saying is that the writer may have been swayed to put a positive light on Wright because of the situation. I could see where Wright's situation could have garnered support, which it obviously did with this reporter. Was it good journalism? I'll just say he didn't do anything different than any other writer. Sometimes we agree with what they're writing and sometimes we don't. I think the bigger question here would be.....how would this writer have reported it with the same 2 players but the situations reversed? But I guess we'll never know.

Wright’s removal was completely different. Terry was putting Wright on a different level than the other players by removing him for fear he was gonna take a beanball. Wright wanted no such special treatment and wanted to be treated like everyone else"

So, does that give you a pass for basically embarrasing the manager in front of the whole world? Was it acceptable? While reyes was bad wright's was even worse, he could've walk it off but instead went at the manager to the point that teammates had to get involved and separate the 2 of them.. Showing off your manager like that is not good for anybody's image...

JDD....

"This is why when Reyes gets angry at Jerry for taking him out of a game. He is throwing a “childish tantrum”

When Wright does the SAME EXACT THING, the SAME EXACT REPORTER says Wright is being a “FIERY LEADER” and is publicly voicing his displeasure"

Yes you're right about the same reporter and his contrasting views on the incidents. But comparing the incidents is like comparing apples and oranges. Each of the players were taken out of the game for completely different reasons. Reyes' removal was injury related when Jerry thought he may have tweaked his nagging hamstring, simple as that.

So David said "the reports that I have read today which are inaccurate". What does that mean? An offer has been made. Otherwise he would have said "What offer?"

So David's agent said "We don’t anticipate a deal any time soon". To me, that means the years dont match up. When a 7 year deal was offered and if that is what David is looking they could work out a deal this week. Or are the numbers that far away? He wants 20 a year and the offer is 17 a year.

Anyway, the story is ongoing...............

Yes...and THE REASON You had to write articles about giving Castillo a break was because he was DEMONIZED by the media and a large majority of met fans.

Now are you denying that you had any reason to write those articles?

Traditionally, corner infielders age a lot better than middle infielders.
Look up & down the history books.
If you want to sign an infielder to a longterm contract into his mid to late 30s, you want to do it with a corner infielder, not a middle infielder. That´s a key difference between Wright & Reyes (besides the Mets´ ownership´s financial situation today being a lot more stable than a year ago, facing the billion dollar lawsuit and having burned a ton of money in 2011).

That´s why signing Wright - the best overall hitter this franchise has ever developed and the 2nd best hitter that has ever played for this franchise except for Mike Piazza - makes a lot of sense.

Look at it differently, if you don´t give a longterm 2nd generation contract to Wright, you´re not going to give such a contract to any player. And there won´t be a single player entering the free agent market any time soon who is as good as Wright & who projects to remain as good as Wright. And even if the Yankees somehow not re-sign Robinson Cano, based on history, re-signing a 2Bman longterm is a lot more risky than signing a 3bman longterm. If not re-signed, Wright is easily the best available free agent bat next off-season & the following off-season too. Which of course, increases his leverage to get a mega deal from someone else like the LA Dodgers, LA Angels or even NY Yankees who would probably be willing to give him an 8-year, 184 million $ type of contract.

Two of the most productive 3bmen in Baseball over the past several years are Adrian Beltre (33) and Aramis Ramirez (34) who don´t seem to regress. Chipper Jones remained quite productive until he retired at age 40. Scott Rolen, even with nagging injuries early in his career remained productive well into his mid 30s before finally tailing off now. Those are very comparable players to Wright - though Wright had a better 2012 season than any of them (and also was better than brittle Evan Longoria and Ryan Zimmerman for that matter).

The Mets - even if Wright gets 18 to 20 million $ per year for the next several years - have a ton of space on their 2014 & beyond payrolls. So, he´s an easy fit, whether the budget remains in the 95 to 100 million range or eventually jumps back to the 120 to 150 million range.

Does it make the 2013 Mets any better ? No. Because it´s just keeping the status quo. A lot of work remains to be done. But this is part of the groundwork to be even able to improve the team going forward vs. continueing the exodus of core players.

Dating back to 2010...all the "leaked stories" are never knocked down by the front-office....

1 - Beltrans knee surgery and the contract situation....that should've remained in-house

2 - The Walter Reed fiasco....that should've remained in-house

3 - Reyes's initial offers from the team

4 - The Ike Davis fiasco

5 - The David Wright negotiations

the list goes on and on...

why leak out stories to make David out to be the guy...and if you're not leaking them out...then why not deny them...

thats Sandy's job...and one thing he was supposed to be great at is public relations and changing the image of the team....

hence why i call him the good english speaking GM

but u knew that already...

excellent job of avoiding my point

thats Sandy’s job…and one thing he was supposed to be great at is public relations and changing the image of the team….

hence why i call him the good english speaking GM

but u knew that already…

excellent job of avoiding my point

I've been saying this since 2011....

Wright is not going to want to stay here...

Maybe if the Mets can trade Ruben Tejada straight up for Jose Reyes..

Maybe Wright will consider staying here for 6/100

"I’m shocked that both Rosenthal, who’s one of the best, and Martino were not onto something. Are the Mets purposely leaking this stuff as a means to an end? It wouldn’t be the first time."

Of course...

Rosenthal misses rather frequently (Deadspin even has a series that goes into how many of his rumors fall flat) and we all know Martino likes to churn stuff out to gets arguments started.

Joe, you're a good writer, but the negativity and conspiracy theories are starting to drag your work down.

...but castillo was largely unpopular before that dropped pop-up...

his poor 2008 season + our collapse pretty much put him in the clubhouse cancer category.

He played the entire year hurt...and was booed the entire year...

Same with Beltran...

But if you want to pretend that we are all just delusional be my guest..

Just told my wife that David Wright said the reports coming out were not true and she immediately said knowing Sandy Alderson it's probably true and they are putting out lies to make the Mets look good or David bad. It never occurred to her that the reports were inaccurate. She said she would believe David more than she would believe Sandy Alderson after everything that has been going on.

My wife just said she doesn't say things unless she means it! Guess you can figure out who wears the pants in this family! LOL

Hi Joe,

Excellent words that you have expressed before in different ways.

For those who don't participate in such type of behavior, the personal attacks expressed after offering an opinion hurts and cuts deep quite badly.

Joe, you run a fantastic web-site, intense with up to date news, information and great topics of interest and discussion. I don't understand why talking about the Mets has to come to this with so many people. Even more so, they should understand it is more than just a one-on-one thing going public, it is also ruining the integrity of a website you have devoted so much time, effort and devotion.
