Cubs Pull Out Of Deal For Haren
Updated Post 11:28 PM
Ken Rosenthal has confirmed that the deal is off. The Cubs pulled the deal off of the table, a source told him.
The Angels are still talking with other clubs about Haren as they close in on the 11pm CST deadline to exercise his $15.5MM option.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the Chicago Cubs and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have agreed on a trade.
The Cubs are sending reliever Carlos Marmol to Anaheim while the Angels are sending Dan Haren to Chicago.
Details on the finances are still coming out, but this deal was likely made because Anaheim was not intending on picking up Haren’s option, while the Cubs obviously will pick up that option now.
Chicago has a few internal candidates such as Alberto Cabrera, Jaye Chapman, and Michael Bowden to replace Marmol.
The Angels were in desperate need of late inning relief, and hope to have found it in Marmol.
The Cubs make a strong statement here with this trade, and this likely puts an end to any Matt Garza (injured) rumors for now.

My time with MMO began in July of 2009 when I wrote a Fan Post defending Omar Minaya (before it was cool to do that.) I grew up a Mets fan with the mid 1980's teams. My favorite Met of all-time is (and was) Wally Backman. When it comes to sabermetrics versus old school thinking, I like to think I meet in the middle. I believe thinking of new ways to get answers is helpful, especially when the same way has not produced results. However, I think over-thinking certain situations can get you into trouble. I'm excited for the new regime, because I believe they have pieces in place to focus on several aspects of the Mets organization. I've waited this long for a World Series, waiting a few more years for another chance isn't going to kill me.
