I hope all this talk about guys the Mets are targeting means that we have money to spend to actually acquire these players. Maybe it’s just them trying to dumb down the fan base. That said, I will be feeling a lot better if we could move Wright and Dickey for a top ten bat, some more hitting prospects, and then use that money to sign Ross AND say Upton or Pagan. I think a lot more of us would like our chances moving forward.

I know….but what I don’t get is why all the blogs throw out the names of the free agents. We already know the Mets won’t be significant players in that arena. If we are going to hypothesize, why not talk about guys they can trade for like Dexter Fowler and Alex Gordon?

Exactly Matt, but for shi*s and giggles, can we have even a borderline legitimate quality MLB player in the outfield this year? I’m no Ross fan, and I’d rather see us trade for a younger, more quality player. Whom though?

The article does bring up one good point: whether a player even wants to play for the Mets. Most assume that when a player goes elsewhere, it is because the team missed the opportunity. A lot of times it is the player prefers another destination. And honestly, why would someone really sign with the Mets at this point. All indications are they wont contend. Most players, even when making a lot of money, want a chance to contend. Why sign with the Mets when a lot of other teams, at least on paper, look closer?

We must have the worst beat writers in baseball covering this team. Is Puma kidding with this? Last year when the Mets were trying to pursue Ross with a $1 million offer which I’m sure he scoffed at. Who are these sources Puma is talking to? Well at least you had the common sense to see this for what it was because Ross wouldn’t touch the Mets with a ten foot pole.

on espn they said hunter pence may be a non-tender possibility….

if we open up salary by trading DW for top prospects, i would explore trading for Pence if he were available…he’s still in his 20′s, has decent pop, excellent leadership….good fielding…and he would help make up for the loss of a right-handed bat…

just thinking outside the box here

Sometimes, we all get caught up in the trivialities of life, then, tragedy strikes, and the truly important things in life; health, love, family, things we all sometimes take for granted, clean water, warmth when it’s cold, dry when it’s wet, are shown to us. This is one of those occurences. I’m glad to hear you and yours are ok….
As for Cody Ross, reality strikes again…we can dream small dreams, but, in the end, it seems even a decent player like Ross is not within our favorite teams’ reach…ugh…

They won’t sign anyone worth getting excited about….

They could trade for someone but whoever they get must be cheap. Which means they’d probably have to trade some good prospects to get him.

I really do not see The Mets signing any substantial FA this year. I could be surprised though. I’m starting to warm to a trade but am totally unwilling to part with any piece of our rotation or Ike. I guess that only leaves small trades as well.
