My thoughts on David Wright have less to do with money ( they can easily afford him ) and more to do with the amount of 21 year old or younger talent a 31 year old 2nd generation player can bring back

If David were 28 ( like Reyes was ), maybe a 6 year contract, ending at year 34 would make sense.

But he’s going to be 31 when that contract starts…with 6 more years after that…

What happens if we trade David…he does not resign with that team ( as Beltran did with SF )

and now we have all those prospects we got him for PLUS the ability to resign him again ( as Cliff Lee did with Phi )

Fact is, If David Wright values winning, there is a large chance that he will not sign ANY contract here in Queens….and when he says he is not the type to squeeze out every last dime…it may very well be that he chooses another team for LESS money, but a better chance of winning.

I would not villianize him for that. Neither should any Met fan

But with that being a realistic choice for him…I would put trading him on the table in January, after initial season packages are purchased in December ( gotta fool the fools ) but before it’s too late.

In fact, I say I prefer not to use it for several reasons.

The problem is when people who don’t understand advanced stats, like you, try and fling it around when they think it proves their point.

and considering that most Met fans were very happy with Angel Pagan in 2 of the past 3 years as a Met…and this 2012 season fell in line with those 2 seasons, one can reasonably conclude that this is the norm for Angel, not the exception.

Unless of course you choose to ignore facts, stats and data that dont support your conclusion.

If they’re going to get rid of one or the other, might as well break down and start over. There’s very little ‘Mets brand’ left and two of the biggest are RA and Wright. Not a good enough reason to offer either a contract – talent would be the biggest reason. I still believe we’re better off with both instead of trading both. Prospects would be nice but as many have pointed out here, they’re a 50/50 gamble at best.

Which is what we’ve been saying all along.. We’re in rebuilding mode, why rebuild and keep them both? For what exactly? We had them both and finish 4th in back to back years. no sense and point in keeping this 2 guys when is obvious they’re not gonna help us win anything, might as well get something in return for them NOW while we have the opportunity to get really good prospects and build around harvey, davis and co.. Sell high while the opportunity is there, the fan base is mad at the front office anyways, no sense into spending money on a guy that we know what he is already and a 38 year old pitcher… SELL, SELL, SELL!!!!!!
