When you said “Consider this, Ike Davis is 3 years OLDER than Heyward and has less career HR and RBI” i was stunned, for someone who likes to point out all kinds of numbers and stats this was the most asinine comment i’ve seen from you in a while.. Jason Heyward has ONE more HR than Ike davis and 10 RBI more and has more than 350 at bats more than Ike and 100 more games, but of course, to fit your agenda of thrashing Ike davis you failed to point that out. you keep amazing me with your vulture like way to be towards ike davis. Let me put it to you this way, I’ll take ike davis 100000x ahead of jason heyward…

I really like Heyward and wouldn’t hesitate moving either Dickey or Niese.
As for Hanson, Johan Santana seems like a better bet to make 25+ starts in 2013 than Hanson…

not for nothing, but jason heyward turned 23 in August.

To win a gold glove and hit 27 HR and drive in 82 runs at age 22 isn’t exactly a bad thing.

Consider this, Ike Davis is 3 years OLDER than Heyward and has less career HR and RBI.

You got another 7 years to decide if Heyward lives up to his hype

Don’t you know, Sandy has been doing just that ever since he’s been here? Talk about unloading reclamation projects – Chris Young – twice, D.J. Carassco, Chris Cappuano, Taylor Buccholz (that a sad story not to be joked about), Dale Thayer – even Jack Egbert.

Unfortunately, those players were damaged goods before he acquired them as well.

If the Braves offered Heyward and Hanson for Niese or Dickey would you do it. There can be throw- ins. Damaged goods and a lefty batter not living up to hype but we would get an young (is he still stud) outfielder.

I agree with other on here that Hanson is an elbow, shoulder injury waiting to happen because of his mechanics which I am sure Braves saw coming down the road AND now they get another ridiculous hard throwing RH to pitch with other awesome arms, wow!

Why can’t we make trades like this?

Hanson barely cracked 90 mph with his fastball last season.
His shoulder appears to be kaputt.
Nice job by ATL getting a power arm in return.

Hanson is about as far away from Dickey & Niese right now as the Mets from being favored to win the 2013 World Series…

Don’t give the Braves that much credit. After all they traded their no. 1 pick Adam Wainwright to the Cardinals and he has been their stud pitcher. And they also ate a lot of contract on Derek Lowe. Their fixing to trade onme of their relievers in a package deal for another outfielder since Prado has to move to 3rd base. Stay tuned, their not done.

The Brave know pitching, and don’t ever give away quality starting. I think they are concerned with Hanson’s health longer term – he has had arm problems in consecutive seasons and his motion makes him a high injury risk. Their bullpen is going to be crazy good in 2013 if players hold to past performance.

About same age, how much more is Niese worth than Hanson. Was Hanson traded because of projected salary increase and his shoulder problems? To answer my question Niese is like a 7-2 tied for second in parimutual betting and Hansion is like a 6-1 mild long shot in morning line.

The Braves have a very good track record of getting rid of guys before they break down. So it may have a lot to do with them being worried about Hanson going forward.

Could also be follow-up moves coming (maybe trading someone else from the pen).

Always hard to look at moves in a vacuum, since sometimes the rest of the dominos have not fallen.

Dickey should be worth a whole lot more than Hanson though, coming off a Cy Young season instead of declining numbers and shoulder problems!

I don’t get this… Good for the angels but the braves? They got the best Closer in the game and a very good bullpen as it is.. IF anything their bullpen just got insane good but why lose SP? Hanson is a good starter.. very good #3 on many good teams.

If that’s all they could get for Hanson, it’s no wonder the offers for Dickey have been underwhelming. It’s a buyers market for starting pitching. If anyone’s overpaying in a trade for an outfielder it might be the Mets. I think the Braves and Nationals knew the market and made their moves early.
