What you seem to ifgnore is you could have gotten Darling (sans Terrel) all by himself for less than Mazzilli and then got Ho Jo for something else since all he really cost you was a MiL guy that never amounted to anything!

You have to look at the big picture. Like the Mazzili trade.

You can see it as Mazzili for Darling, but in reality, it also brought us Walt Terrell, who was a later traded for Howard Johnson.

We won what we did because of the Starting pitching which we lost and did not replace!

We even had a cheap homegrown option to use to stop the first 5 game losing streak and refused to bring him up in favor of Hefner/Batista.

Then they sent one of our top power threats down to the minors.
They insisted on playing Bay

did nothing to fix the bad bullpen that cost us the games that would have carried us and kept us in the playoff race through July if they hadn’t stunk up the joint!

I don’t get why you think it was the same team that lost in the 2nd half that won in the first!
When you lose two top starters your no longer the same team and you need to make up for that!

really what you are saying is that the team was flat out lucky to have the record they did, and that it was totally unsustainable for the current crew to keep winning.

so given that, a couple of spare parts picked up at the deadline weren’t likely to make a bunch of difference. Not like Pujos was coming on board!

Besides, they did get help. Sandy added an upgrade for the pen that had a solid finish, and another SP that was one of the top 3 in the rotation for the last 2 months. So Sandy did give them help!

he did not punt on the team by selling everything that was not tied down. That would have been “quitting” on them. Instead, he kept the guys that were producing (like Hairston) to give them a chance to play their way out of the slump, added the guys in the system that were ready to help, and left it up to the core that got them to 46-40 in the first place.

The teams that punted? That would be Boston, PHilly and Mill., and 2-3 actually went on a run. SO maybe the answer to a WC chase was to trade wright and dickey at the deadline!

And even if they get someone back are you suggesting the team won’t be worse for the next 3 years while your waiting for that MAYBE to get here?

How many times has a team traded a good player and actually got back MORE than they gave?

Along with the moves I won’t give that speech about, there is also the lack of moves which made the team feel it was kicked in the teeth along with that both David Wright and R.A. Dickey, who are each appreciative of how the organization has treated them, are seriously thinking they want end their careers somewhere else.

so you can’t just say trading player X makes your team worse.
