the problem with Pelf, and factoring in Boras, is that he is a FA at the end of the year. So, some team will pay him to mostly rehab and get himself back in form, so that he can just walk away.

Not necessarily. He still has to rehab remember and will likely be on some sort of innings limit. He may just get a performance bonus based deal ya know?

Boras is no dummy – his goal for 2013 is to showcase Pelfrey to get him a bigger deal after the season ends. He’ll take any opportunity he gets for that.

Pelfrey has Boros as his agent. He will get a major league deal from someone. His days as a Met are over. I would say you can expect $1.5M-$2M guaranteed with incentives added in.

Acosta, Byrdak, Cedeno, Hairston, Torres, Young, Shoppach, R. Ramirez, Rauch and Pelfrey are all givens not to be on the team’s roster as they will be non-tendered or leave as FAs. Nickeas can be dropped. McHugh and Hefner are on the bubble as are Lutz and Havens. There is plenty of room for Rule V additions and new acquisitions.

Cedeno was a good pick up and I hope we can get him back.
Might not happen though b/c I remember reading that his agent believes he’s good enough to be a starting IF on some teams and that’s how they’re attempting to market him this off season.

I bet Fred Lewis was pretty high up on the PPPA for the Mets. Maybe he even led the team in PPPA despite limited appearances?

So Andres Torres is the Mets most patient hitter and Fred Lewis probably was right up there with PPPA.

Alex I get your distaste for the FO, I really do. However, how is it that you do not care for a guy like Cedeno as a quality backup?
.259 .332 .410 .741 from a guy that can play multiple IF positions, what’s the problem there other than who signed them?

Pelfrey non tendered is a given.
Whether they offer him a minor league contract remains to be seen.
With the pitching drought some teams have, I wonder if Pelf will have a few offers of a 1 year ML contract, even though he likely won’t be ready by opening day.

You also have Byrdak, Pelf, Gee.

So obviously Gee is going back on. Pelfrey who knows what they will do to be honest. Byrdak won’t get a spot.

So you have decisions on: Acosta, Carson, McHugh, Elvin Ramirez, Ramon Ramirez, Jon Rauch, Chris Young, Nickeas, Shoppach, Cedeno, Hairston, Torres to come right?

Obviously some are FA like Hairston but if re-signed (doubtful) they still need a spot.

Johnson did a good job for the organization. Buffalo had a great year deveoping major league pitching. Rob was a big part of it. He may never get a regular role in the majors. I hope he resigns with us. After all he is the Mets All Time ERA leader (one inning or more).

I tried to look at the 40 man for just a minute and what I noticed that if you looked at the “effective” 40 man you really only have about 30 players by the time you take your FA and guys like Acosta off the list.
