Also, why would you fire Collins to bring in another “fiery” guy who has no major league experience?

Being in the Mets minor league system for so long working with the kids might be an indication that Wally has resolved the private problems which led to his dismissal at Arizona four days after he was hired. Unfortunately, the stigma stays in the minds of many long after the monkeys on one’s back have been lifted.

It will be very interesting when Wally is Managing here in Vegas and how he fires up the area. But it sure would be great to see the Mets come play a couple of game here one gameor both games against a Catcus game. Cubs, A’s or Dodgers for example. The Cubs usually play a couple of spring games here in Vegas.

Teufel stinks. There’s no fire there. He loddy da’s around like a bobble head with a koopa troopa face. They need some fire like TC brings to the table plus a man who has won the whole darn thing already…Backman.

That being said, I still think Geren is the guy they’ll pick, not Wally.

I was 3 in 1986, so pardon me for not caring that much about Wally. I just hope that whoever the next Manager is, is actually the best available choice. Most of the time you don’t even know how a guy will do managing in the majors, until they do. And even then, most people just have to deal with the hand they’re dealt. Not sure Wally or Connie Mack, McGraw, LaRussa, Torre, anyone…would be successful with the hand they’ve been dealt the last few years.

Jeff Wilpon wanted Wally. SA was impressed with Wally during the interview. But at that time Wally only had Mil A level and I think one year AA level experience. Fred Wilpon thru Sandy Koufax was talked into TC. Also I read that the Mets knew they would be losers under the austerity of the Picard lawsuit and did not want to tarnish Wally’s image as a managerial loser. Wally was always the designated replacement. That is why Wally did not go with Davey as his bench coach. Bottom line the Mets made a commitment to Wally. If Wally saw TC was extended he would leave the organization. He is reluctant to do that since the Mets were the only ones to give hin a chance when he was out of baseball and wanted another chance.

why does it have to be that complicated? Mets need a AAA manager, Wally obviously did not have a ML managing gig likely this year, he knows the players and organization, so he went to Vegas. Does not have to be any big agreement for anything beyond 2013.

Wally coached all the levels, Brooklyn Cyclones, Bingham Mets, and Buffalo Bisons.

Who doesn’t love the Wall?

Ok, so what is the FO’s thinking? I’m just curious here. Does anyone think that they see something in him that makes him ” the guy” to lead this team in ’14? That’s when they are supposedly going to open the check book and get this team competitive. Does Terry not have the goods to manage a winner then? What makes Wally the man?

Word is the Phillies were interested in Wally for their AAA job. So the “no ones interested” line is hogwash.

I think it is pretty certain Wally has a job as Davey’s bench coach and heir apparent.

I am also pretty certain that Wally would not agree to take himself out of the managerial openings w/o a commitment from Sandy that it his job for 2014. Why do you think TC has no extention beyond 2013?

You have no idea what Davey wants and Geren is next in line. Wally wanted to jump to the Nata last seaon and Davey told him to stay put. But with Geren around and his connections to the FO, I don’t think Wally has a good shot at the thrown.

To me, having managed most of the Mets youngsters, Wally would be my first choice. Unfortunately, I think the FO is going to go with the safer choice. The guy they feel more comfy with. The one with major league managing experience.
