Ludwick Will Decline $5M Option, Could Sign Multi-Year Deal To Stay With Reds
Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that outfielder Ryan Ludwick will turn down his side of the $5 million mutual option on his contract with the Reds, However, Heyman adds that the Reds will discuss a new multi-year deal with Ludwick in the hopes of keeping him in Cincinnati.
Over the weekend, Hal McCoy of the Dayton Daily News, reported that Ludwick will receive multi-year offers from other teams this winter, and that Cincinnati might be unable to match those offers. But according to Heyman, buth sides are very interested in working something out and Ludwick has enjoyed his time with the Reds.
Ludwick, 34, had a solid 2012 season posting a 275/.346/.531 slash connecting for 26 home runs and driving in 80 in 422 at-bats. He signed a one-year, $2.5 million contract with the Reds before the 2012 season.
As a righthanded hitter with power, he may have been a good fit for the Mets, but probably out of their price range.

what do you think he signs for? 2yr 14? 3yr 20 mil?
Out of their price range? Haven’t they learned their lesson on signing aging players? They guy’s 34 and wants a multi-year deal? He can 2 years and that’s it.
I think Ludwick goes to SF because they probably planned on bringing Melky back for a good amount of $ and since that is out the window now – they will look for an impact corner OF bat like Ludwick.
Fun Facts!
Offense
Ludwick last 4 years WAR: 1.1, -.08, -.06, 1.7 – 1.4 Total = Impact bat
Pagan last 4 years WAR: 2.8, 3.4, -0.8, 4.1 – 9.5 Total = Lazy, clubhouse cancer
Dont like WAR? Use OPS, same story.
Defense
Ludwick: 1.85 RF/9, 1.77 RF/G, dWAR (-3.6) = Gritty, Fiery
Pagan: 2.64 RF/9, 2.54 RF/G, dWAR 3.1 = Boneheaded player
Forgot the best part. Ludwick 34, Pagan 31.
Pagan not worth multi-year deal.
Ludwick worth multi-year deal.
Go figure.
Awesome!!!! Take THAT Mr. Fung! (OJ trial joke)
….and thanks for the comment
Pagan is lazy
Pagan is moody
Pagan farts too much
All these and more are reasons why I think the league will force Pagan to leave MLB and play in the Dominican Winter league for the rest of his life
Maniac — Where was your voice when Pagan was being vilified by lots of fans here on MMO? There is often a bandwagon effect which maybe tells us something about the venom and lack of independence of some MMO posters on this site. For what it’s worth, I thought Beltran was a terrific, near or actual HOF athlete. He was also a great role model who was a regular church goer. Maybe he didn’t have Delgado’s supposedly sophisticated secular views on life, but he had his own religious, deep seated orientation. It’s a personal view, but I think no player had more decency and heart than Beltran. (Yet I think Delado had more than most.)
Pagan had to be one of our most underrated players. While he didn’t have Beltran’s power, he could run, hit, throw and play team ball. What was not to like?.
