The Mets end their 2012 season, for better or for worse, today in Miami. It’s been an interesting ride and even though it has been exhausting for a while, there were moments of pure exhilaration and at the start of the season until June, there was a lot of hope. As always, I’ll miss this team in the off-season.
Hefner gets the nod for the Mets today. Jeremy is 3-7 on the season over 86.1 innings with a 5.32 ERA. Hefner’s last start was a good rebound. If you recall, two starts ago, Hefner allowed 7 earned runs without recording a single out. Last time out he pitched 7 innings of shutout ball. Against the Marlins this year he has allowed 2 ER over 7 innings of work. The Marlins have the following numbers against Hefner:
Lee 2-4
Reyes 1-4
Stanton 1-4
Dobbs 1-3
Peterson 1-3, 2B
Tom Koehler will be making his first major league start of his career this afternoon. In 7 games this year he has pitched 8.1 innings allowing 5 ER. He has pitched 1.2 innings against the Mets this year allowing one earned run, thus the Mets have the following numbers against him:
Tejada 0-2
Baxter 1-1, 2B
Bay 0-1
Hairston 0-1
Murphy 1-1
Shoppach 1-1, 2B
Wright 0-1
Let’s Go Mets!
Thank you readers for following these Game Preview Posts for another year. I still post all off-season long at 213 Miles From Shea, which will be covering the October Post Season, the November Qualifying Rounds of the World Baseball Classic, Daily Baseball Cards, the Winter Meetings of December, the World Baseball Classic in February and, of course, Spring Training.

Hey Elliot – Thanks for the update and the kind parting words. Will miss this team, too. Have you written off Johan? I don’t know what to think… Our hitting philosophy must change. Can’t watch our hitters take hittable fastballs early on the count, especially by design.
Off Topic: If your a fan of the underdog then what the Orioles and A’s have done this season will give you at least 2 teams to watch in the AL this season. No one and I mean no one saw either team doing what they did this season. It’s not like they did it in a year that the competition was subpar and won with like 88 wins. If the Orioles win and the Yankees lose they would play 1 game to decide the division winner and #1 seed in the AL and if the Orioles and Yankees lose the A’s would have the #1 seed in the AL with their 94 wins.
In the NL no onr predicted the Nats to win the division but a few picked them for a WC so while their story is good it pales compared to what happened in the AL this year.
Mets season is over now all that is left is to sit back andwatch the playoffs.
