Giants Stun the Cardinals 9-0 and Advance to the World Series
The San Francisco Giants routed the St. Louis Cardinals 9-0 in Game Seven of the National League Championship Series on Monday to complete a stunning comeback and advance to the World Series against the Detroit Tigers.
The Giants, the 2010 World Series winners, trailed last year’s champion Cardinals 3-1 in the best-of-seven series but ran off three straight victories by a combined score of 20-1 to win the National League championship four games to three.
San Francisco will host the Detroit Tigers, who swept the New York Yankees to win the AL pennant, in the first two games of the World Series which begins on Wednesday.

Detroit Tigers in 5 Games….
I’ll take Tigers in 6 games.
I read Zito is likely pitching game 1 against Verlander. I’ll be very surprised if he repeats that great start he had in the NLCS.
Also read Lincecum will be inserted back in the rotation. I’m thinking he might not fare too well against those Tigers bats.
THIS ^^^^ LOL
“Detroit Tigers in 5 Games….”
Great, just great….and to think I had the Tigers winning it all.
Wonder if Beltran realizes this is 3 times in a row in the NLCS going full 7 games that the Cardinals are responsible for him not getting to the WS.
Former Mets Marco Scutaro named NLCS MVP
Who went 6 for 6 in their MMO playoff predictions?
This guy.
Detroit to make it 7/7!
Just a quick reminder for THAT guy who thought was perfect in the playoffs:
AL Wildcard Staff Picks
Texas: Joe D, Mitch Petanick, Jessep, Michael Barrett….
NL Wildcard Staff Picks
Atlanta: Clayton Collier, Jim Mancari, Greg Hopps, Clare Lafferty, Mitch Petanick, Xtreemicon, Tie Dyed, Jessep, Michael Barrett, Jessica DeMattia
As we know both those teams who WERE in the playoffs lost right away… So.. Uh, might wanna pipe down a bit..
I despise St Louis but I really wanted to see Beltran to get a ring.
Congrats to both teams. They both deserve to be in the World Series and it should be a good one with pitchers being dominant. That said, I predict very low TV ratings. If you have night games in Frisco it is too late for east coast fans, Weekend day games are up against college and the NFL. It may be an exciting series but for fans of those teams and cities no one really cares. I do have one question. How come Beltran looked so good in this series but left his bat on his shoulder for us. Even in the pouring rain down 9-0 he worked the count to draw a walk when no one would blame him if he just ended the game with a whiff. Baffling to me.
As someone who watched the game last night….
Beltran vs. Wainwright curve doesn’t compare to Romo trying to grip that ball in the pouring rain and get 1 more out. Did you see those pitches to Beltran? That wasn’t pitching. That was going through his windup and hoping the hell he didn’t kill anyone when he released the ball.
Detroit is not a big market, plus they’re all about college and pro football more than baseball, and you can’t blame the ratings on a city of 800000 people for not watching.. Just like it has been as of late, the ratings will suck because there are no marquee teams in it.. Detroit has the most superstars but SF is just a boring team in terms of marketbility.. That’s just my take.
Any time there is a West coast team involved unless it’s the Dodgers there is going to be a drop off in the ratings. Its just population alone that will come into play. People on the east coast are not staying up until 1:00 AM to watch the Tigers and Giants play. Call it East Coast bias but it’s just facts.
the other problem is you either need a team that has a lot of fans around the country, or a team that lots of people love to hate. When you get a couple of teams that both seem nice and easy to root for, without any compelling drama, you are not likely to get a bunch of non-team specific fans tuning in.
True, that is why I placed the Dodgers as the exception on the West Coast. Honestly as far as I know that would be the only exception to that rule. Unless you count Texas as part of that West Coast but even then it’s limited. It isn’t like they are the Cowboys.
I can’t seem to get on Beltran for one AB with an incredible curve ball sending him to his seat. Also to think that players can’t learn from their experiences? You don’t think if Beltran had that AB over again he wouldn’t do something different? Same thing with Wright and his infamous AB.
THIS^^^^
Beltran was a “spectator” with his bat on his shoulder. The bat NEVER moved on that pitch. Absoluteley no effort at all , none, nada, fini. At least get the bat off the shoulder and be READY! That is what I fault him for and always will. Why the clutch at bat last night trying to not be the last out in a 9-0 rout in drenching rain?
WOW, Alex on a side note when you complain about Wright, this is what you sound like.
WTH? When have i ever accused wright of this? My problem with him is that he’s an excuse maker, and when he failed miserably that night he looked for an excuse and said he made a great 3-2 pitch on a ball 6 feet off the plate.. Metlou sounds totally off but that’s his opinion, can’t fault him for thinking that, once in a while you let comments you don’t agree with just sit there and keep it moving
Just saying this is exactly how you come across. The very thing you hate about detractors of Reyes and Beltran is exactly how you are viewed on Wright.
I always meant to ask you, do you trust him in a big spot? and also, how come if he is in fact a clutch hitter, as soon as he does have a big hit it’s a new years celebration in every blog saying that he’s a clutch hitter??
Hmmm, do I trust him in a big spot? Of course that depends on the situation as each situation is different. Over the course of his career however, all those stats with RISP, RISP 2/O, Late and Close, High Leverage, they all even out to close to his career norms. If it’s a power pitching RH pitcher then I think he is going to struggle in a clutch position, just as those players like Utley and Howard often do vs. LH in clutch positions. Again, until someone actually defines “big spot” or “clutch” and we all agree on the definition then these discussions will always be subjective.
As for again how blogs portray him when he gets what they determine is a “clutch” hit, again you are letting others views of Wright influence your own. I have no idea why nor do I care why those people praise Wright when he gets one. Maybe because they feel a need to prove you guys wrong, I have no idea. Ask one of them.
See, my point exactly.. You came up with 1000 words for as to why/what/when/where/how he’d come up in a big spot.. all i was looking for it’s a simply YES or NO.. but hey, suit yourself..
All the games are 8pm EST
Have to say, if I was a Giants fan, I wouldn’t be very happy about this.
I can imagine that many a fan will still be at work or trying to get home for these 5 pm PST game starts.
As a baseball fan who will be watching the WS here on the east coast, this makes me happy.
WRONG……come on, this is sunny laid back California, if the games is at 5. We just leave the office at 4 and walk over to the ballpark, no throgs neck bridge, midtown tunnel, belt parkway, etc to deal with. Grab a bowl of chowda in a s.f. Sourdough bowl, a Sierra Nevada brew and enjoy.
Ha! My mistake.
Angel Pagan will be the starting CF for a World Series team. Marco freakin Scutaro is the NLCS MVP!! I’m convinced that I will never see a Mets Championship again in my lifetime. Inept managment, toothless coaches and rudderless players! Oy vey!
